It's essentially a single player game with the ability to co-op. Would be nice to see some other people out in the world proper.
I thought I would miss bumping into randos like in Destiny. The I realized one of the many problems of Destiny is how trivial everything is. Part of that is that areas that are supposed to be stark and war-ravaged are in actuality silly shooting galleries full of goobers faffing about waiting for spawns. But that's just me I suppose.
Wasnt launch "just the beginning" for every MMO in history?
Well, that's a fair point. I think lots of people have been treating this game as an fps like Call of Duty in which the pattern is Launch-->some DLC-->meanwhile start working on the sequel to replace it in a year. I think Massive/Ubi wants to try to make this game stick around awhile. As I've said, I've seen and played enough to be reasonably confidant that I will be entertained through launch and the slated year-1 DLC. If it holds my interest longer, well that's bonus as far as I'm concerned.

I get that. But to see no one at all? I mean, the districts themselves aren't all that small. Even to have 5-10 people in them would be nice. There are several division agents in these trailers that they are showing off. But in the actual game, you can't randomly bump into one. I am also not interested in seeing a dozen people on every street of the city.

I did a little soloing today in the beta for exploration and I think Division does things differently enough from Destiny that will satisfy both strict solo players and people who want more social stuff. There's the common area which is like the Tower in Destiny where you will see all kinds of other players. But what is really nice is that if you want to just faff about in the pve area, you don't have to go to orbit (i.e. a load screen), you just walk from the common area to the play area and start faffing. You find the story missions not in orbit, but in the play area. In Destiny, you could only auto-group on strikes (and Crucible). Here, you can group up easily on any mission and, even better, when you are done with the mission your group doesn't go to a mission debrief screen, you just seamlessly remain together in the open play area.
If you want to bump into randoms, there is the Dark Zone. Now at the moment, because there is a coming character wipe that means there is nothing to lose, it's guns blazing much of the time. I think on the full game when the stakes are higher and the disadvantages of going rogue often outweigh the advantages, I think there will be lots more peaceful coexisting with people not even in your group. In the end I don't think many people will miss the Destiny system.
Looks fun. Though i think the Dark zone will just be a haven for the PvP sadists out there and for those that don't enjoy it as much, the game might feel limited in content.
Sorry but I haven't followed this at all so excuse my question if it is silly;
Is this basically just a shooter?
3rd person shared world shooter RPG (that's a mouthful).
Think Destiny with a little more depth to skills (EDIT: classes was the wrong word here) and a post-apoc NYC setting third person game, and you're not too far off from the truth.

Yea, the seamless world is a much better system for keeping folks playing. There's a lot of running, so if I were Ubi I'd increase the density of random encounters a little to keep things exciting throughout the game (as the running can create pacing issues when moving from mission to mission), but it's much better than going through 8-10 loading screens per session.
I'm not so sure about the Dark Zone becoming more peaceful (just knowing players in general like to be dicks). I think the Rogue system could use improvements (such as not flagging players as Rogue for attacking a Rogue agent). It could also use a little more consistency (the aforementioned issue doesn't always occur, for reasons that aren't very clear in the beta). However, I do think it's an awesome idea (it's like H1Z1's drops, except it's actually fun and works in the greater context of the game). I'm excited for release myself, as it seems like there's enough main and side missions to keep me and my buddies occupied long enough to get 60 bucks of enjoyment out of the game. And that's not even counting the Dark Zone stuff.
Thanks for the responses guys. Rekon I'll be passing then not a shooter fan. Appreciate the quick replies.
I recommend watching some gameplay streams because while there are shooting elements, I wouldn't call it the kind of shooter where you need the twitchy reflexes of a cat.

Free will be new game modes?? sigh So basically what takes very little effort is what you get for free, everything else will be added costs.I expect each dlc sale will be one map. They might sell maps for 15-20 bucks.
I did a search on Steam and it is 80 bucks so around 90 bucks with tax,add in a few dlc's and i would be paying 140-150 for a 4 map game.Guess i'll wait for a Steam sale where i can get everything for a package deal.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

You get everything for $90 bucks. That's the base game and the season pass which will be all the DLCs will be available for the game. You just pay it up front. No different than playing a base game and then paying 30 bucks for an expansion. Nothing new is happening here payment wise that we haven't had in the game industry for 30 + years.
After playing the beta, I decided to change my preorder of the standard $60 edition to the gold $90 edition to tack the season pass onto it, I had that much fun. It's less shooter to me and more RPG which I like. It feels more like an MMO than Destiny ever did. This is a game where a group of friends will have a blast, much like all of the Tom Clancy type games. March can't come soon enough.

Don't worry about him. Scorpex X spouts off without looking information up too. It's what they do, add nothing to conversations.

100% agree.
I'll probably grab the PS4 and PC version as well. I have too many friends that are "I will only play on this" types. So I need all 3 versions if I'm going to play with them all. Reminds me I'm going to need to find a good PS4 and PC headset.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.

I was going to purchases this, but after watching a friend play beta its incredibly boring. Grind for loot that doesn't really have that much of an effect. There is litterally nothing to do except kill people and kill pve mobs. I forsee this being another destiny/battlefront
That the game is being likened to the PC version of Destiny, is probably no coincidence, its something i am hearing a lot, thing is, at launch Destiny was largely empty, its only since Taken King was released that the game even approached some degree of content. The game might turn out okay, but, lately, its starting to look a bit iffy, and i think earlier comments about this being in truth a $90 game where you get fed the rest of the game over time through the season pass, should be ringing alarm bells all of its own, so is the game truly worth $90? is it even worth $50 is the real question imo. Unit Lost recently posted a youtube video of their gameplay and thoughts on The Division, i found it enlightening personally, but i would be interested in hearing whether or not people agree or disagree that the game may in fact, be a bit boring. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAUSZH3CWd8

But I've accepted that Launch + DLCs is the new industry-wide reality and if I can't roll with it, then it is time for another hobby.
No, I don't.
