1) Dark Age of Camelot - The game still looks and feels good and doesn't have the rusty feel of EQ and UO, and they're doing their expansions properly so they don't negate the original game (a la EQ).
2) Anarchy Online - They botched it at the launch, but I'll be doggoned if Funcom didn't stick to its guns and deliver a fine MMOG.
3) Neocron - The only real problem with this game is the fact that the player community is so small. If more people played it, it would be #1 on my list.
4) Everquest - Still popular after all these years for a reason. Despite the fact that their expansions screwed up the original game (like disallowing 54+ to fight Naggy and causing the original popular areas like the Oasis to be deserted), they still have a huge fanbase because they keep the content fresh and because the community has matured.
5) Ragnarok Online - I know it looks like a kiddie game and it doesn't have much depth, but it sure is a fun little game. If the asian numbers are to be believed, this one is almost as big as Lineage.
...and bringing up the rear:
Asheron's Call 2 - Pretty graphics do not a game make.
Star Wars: Galaxies - SOE can find more ways to screw up a sure thing.
The Sims Online - A complete dog. Bow Wow Woof.

I only saw it mentioned once, but I have to put Horizons up there at least at #4....i've been reading and chatting a whole lot about it since the latter days of the beta testing and I think it'll be quite a refreshing mmorpg........just doing some vigilante defending.....other favs being EQ, UO (waiting patiently for UXO), and DAoC!
These are the only 3 that I have played (3 years eq, 5 months daoc, 2 week ffxi). Final fantasy has the potential of overtaking DAOC and maybe even EQ (crazy, but possible). I have not decided as I've only played for 1 week.
1)EQ- a classic .Dungeons, quest, heart beat has it all.Would be miles above my number 2 but SoE has destroyed a lot of the game but the core is so sound even they can't mess up what verrant has created .But now a close first at best.nice community too.
2)DAoC- fresh ideas, good community.Quest and dungeons takes it down to number 2 .designers have an idea of what they are doing .
3)SWG- good theme, nice looking world.A distant number 3 .DAoC and EQ in a class of their own.Was way better and a close number 3 until the developers started listening to players(who i might add if they knew how to make a good mmorpg would have made one or at least worked on one doh).Game has gotten worse from listening to clueless fans.Horrible community too.
4)AC2- yeah everyone hates it .I thought it had good potential but was clearly a game with no vision.Only gets number 4 because it has one of the most friendly and nicest community i ever came across even though it is small.very mature crowd who actually have constructive and useful suggestions.
5)UO.A gem in its time but its time long gone even back in 1999 it was already second in my books to EQ.Giving it number 5 because of its breakthru .Horrible community probably worse then SWG.Ancient in design ancient in idea.
1 AC... If it's not somewhere on your top five it is because you've never played it.
2. DAoC... Solid game, well... to a great or lesser extent
3. AC2... Great ideas and a fun game... Just to damn repetative, somethings just not well thought out (crafting, economy; the player base was never high enough to support a player run economy, pvp.. to name a few) and you can very (very) quickly run out of stuff to do.
4. ...
5. EQ no matter how many expansions and updates they give it... if you were nto there at the beginning (as I was not)... then its just lacking
Kratere... AC might be a little outdated by now... graphics wise at least... I haven't played for a few number of years (so I don't know what it's like now) but the content and fun were always there. AC2 had a lot of potential, I even thought it was the greatest for a few months, but there just wasn't enough to keep me playing. Me? I'm patiently waiting for World of Warcraft.

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would like to play a good fantasy MMORPG .... and I have never tried one before. So, can you help me to choose a good one ? And why AC is better than AC2 ?- AC has a solid well developed base with a dedicated community.AC2 started off badly and nowadays unless you got a big brand name behind you you can never recover from it thus has very low community numbers.Would not say AC is better but its down to personal preference. What do you think ot Horizons ?-Dunno if the shop i bought it from would decide to ship it instead of flashing awaiting stock i would tell you but there is a big discussion on it in this forum.Check it out. Will Warhammer online be a good MMORPG ?-Your guess is as good as mine or anyone else.No one knows until the game at least starts beta testing .Predicting a mmorpg would be great just on what you read about in while still in development is like predicting the lottery. And EQ2 ???-same as above Pfff ... well ... there's a lot of games ... and I don't know which one to choose !!!!-DAoC and EQ stand out.For fresh new mmorpgs i say FFXI(though it been out in japan for a bit now) or horizons. THANKS, KRATERE
But I think it will be interesting to have few critics ...
Why "this" game is number 1 and "that" one number 3. How are the graphics, how is the game. What do YOU like especially in "this" game. What is the particularity of "this" compared to "that" ... etc ...
I ask for those informations, because I am still looking for a "good" fantasy MMORPG !
FFXI looks good ... but I am not convinced ( yet ). Horizons looks good as well ... but many people are talking about lags in the game ...
And What About Lineage2 ???? Perhaps I should wait for the 25 th of february ....
Arrrr ... it's hard ...
I hope you will help me ... and I will find a good game
Comments
I'm just playing guys, these games suck.
