'3. The new expansion is great. It's the first time in a long time that I've been excited to experience the Star Wars storyline in that game. But there is a problem. Your character now automatically lowers level to go to any original game zone making it much harder to complete quests. Really? Why am I not being give the OPTION to do this rather than having forced on me? '
I know the level sync isn't to everyone's taste, but surely not much harder? With your companions as they are now, you can walk through the leveling content and solo Heroics with little effort. Even when you are synced, you're still more powerful than a standard character at that level, pretty much one shotting mobs.
It's doing good...these people saying "long term players are leaving" are just parroting the worlds most toxic official forums. Like every mmorpgs players leave and come back but the ridiculous doom and gloom that all long time players are leaving is just a desperate attempt from the 10-15 forums champions over there.
I enjoyed SWTOR during 2.x. I didn't care much for 3.x and have been peeking in to see how 4.x is doing. I really enjoyed the game when I played and would love to see it back like that again. So it's disappointing to hear about toxic forums and posters claiming there is an influx of new players but they don't stay.
I understand this is just their personal observation and is mixed with subjectivity. So it's very tough to discern the difference between a bitter player crying sour grapes and what is a legitimate complaint here.
But that brings me back to your post. It's the exact same thing as theirs. All subjective with little to support it.
That's basically the nature of how it always goes on these forums, with every game. Those who like it point out their more positive experiences, while those who hate it try to get as negative about it as possible.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
I'm more curious about whether they'll be able to deliver on the monthly updates that were suppose to be what would keep people subscribed in the new expansion.
this game is dead just like skyforge, just barely clinging.
I don't know if you are knowingly telling a ridiculous lie to try to dissuade people from trying a game or you are just incredibly ignorant.
There are lots of negative opinions that can be said about SWTOR. However, the game is not remotely dead. Its likely behind only WoW, GW2, and FFXIV (I know nothing about ESO's population..maybe thats up there too?) in terms of active population. It also has the advantage of being able to draw in new/returning players better than most MMOs with the constant stream of Star Wars movies coming out the next several years.
EA is in a tough spot because they either need to churn out class related story content (to compel multiple play throughs) or step up endgame content to get people to sub long term, but the way it is now will still always see good populations, just a lot of people will drop in and out a few times a year.

That's exactly the spot I have been with SWTOR for a while now, playing couple months a year to see the latest content. And after playing through most new things KotFE has to offer in last few months, as well as redoing two of class stories, I expect to be back to the game at some point later this year, after they release the rest of story chapters. There is simply not enough new things to do to keep me subscribing for entire year but thats fine.
Now, dont get me wrong with this and my previous post, I really like this game and if you are new player or returning player who hasnt done all of class stories / flashpoints / operations before, there is plenty of excelent content to do that should keep you playing for months.
The game is one of the top revenue generating MMO's on the market right now if that says anything. I mean, EA does nickle and dime a few things they shouldn't (they did ease up on some of that, though but still not enough). But yeah with the expansion a metric f*** ton of players have returned. I did after a pretty long absence and have enjoyed the new content a great deal.
This might be true, but the game is barely populated. There are only two servers where you can get anything done, and one is in NA, and the other in EU. If you're not guilded, it's practically impossible to find a group for anything on their less populated servers.

Once again a gross exaggeration. The only servers with real grounds to complain are the PvP ones, where the population is low indeed from what I've heard, but what do you really expect on a story driven (AKA mostly PVE based) MMO? Let's be a bit realistic there. :surprised:
Both EU servers I play on are very busy (The Red Eclipse & The Progenitor), which already blows your statement right out of the water. I know the Ebon Hawk and the Harbinger are also very busy servers for the US side. The rest I can't speak for since I don't play on them.
As for players dropping in and dropping out... welcome to MMOs in 2016. For a lot of people that is THE way to play MMOs nowadays. And why the hell not? Play all the content there is to play, and move on to a fresh game, only to return to the older ones later when they have a host of new things to offer.

So I was on fleet last night and my server was pretty lifeless. One instance and just over 100 players. A far cry from two years ago with 3-4 full instances.
However, I had a companion who I had largely ignored. I guess that with the last major overhaul they gave us all the missing dialogue options for our companions and one of them had a quest that took me to Taris.
Ok, so fleet was dead, but Taris had 111 people questing. Now I'm not sure if there's some new high level content on that planet that I don't know about, but 111 people on the 16-24 zone tells me that SWTOR has brought in some new blood since the new movie, but not a lot of returning older players.
I didn't get a chance to go to Tython or Coruscant, but I'm guessing the numbers would be similar. Seems the game has an injection of new players.
All I know is that I'm enjoying the game now more than I ever have.
The only way to answer that question is to log into the game and see for yourself.
Interesting. I'll have to check it out again.
Keep in mind I'm subscribed and I've liked the game even before the last update. I just think this last update polished and improved game play and combat flow.
This is exactly why I am interested. I know how you feel about the subscription model, so it says a lot about the game for you to want to sub to one.

Is it possible that strongholds and guild ships have shifted where people do their waiting around for instance queues? Never had a max level in swtor so my fleet time was always somewhat limited. Occasional shopping trip but thats about it.

A lot of people do hide inside their SHs, yes. They've got a little hub with a GTN, mailbox and everything they need right there. And very fast loading times, since they are the only ones in there.

Lack of players on fleet probably has more to do with odessen and strongholds Just opinion mind, but I think the high number of players on lower and mid level planets might be due to the weekly heroics. These weekly hc rewards are the reason for the level sync.

These days it's hard to judge the population based on one area, yeah. I'm rarely on the fleet these days, since I much prefer to manage my auctions from "at home", where I have easy access to my cargo bays (both Legacy and regular), and other stuff I want.
The heroics do indeed make higher levels revisit the lowbie planets frequently, so it's not just lowbies. It's also possible that when H0urg1ass' fleet was dead, it was simply because he wound up in a second instance of it with barely any people in it.

If i was making my own game and even a Star Wars game, i would not take a single concept idea form this game, i feel every aspect was done poorly and with little effort. When i finally got around to seeing crafting, that was really the low punch to the gut,i was like geesus what kind of crap is this, very disappointed in the game design.

Which in turn says that quite a few people think it's good enough to spend money on. You seem to think that every gamer is a carbon copy of each other, all with the same tastes.
Chances are pretty good that I'd hate whatever brilliant game you have in mind as your ultimate MMO and wouldn't spend a single penny on it.

^This. I just recently resubbed after years of not playing - actually having alot of fun.
It all depends on where your at in life atm. I have little time for gaming, and wanted to play a star wars game that isn't going to take 6 months to grind out 1 class to 50 (or 60) - I been taking my time going through the class stories and been having a refreshing time just playing the game stress-free.
This game is super casual, its not for the power gamers anymore like it was at launch. Its almost like they don't want you to play much; which is a different approach to other MMO's that want you to basically spend your entire life in there virtual world with massive, huge, ridiculous grinds (looking at you, FF:ARR...)
All in all, I'm happy I resubbed - I know I won't last past maybe 2 months but I'm totally okay with that, this is just a story game with some multiplayer elements sprinkled in - nowadays, being older and more busier, that totally works for me.
I enjoy undercutting people in the market place - it's the only PvP a crafter gets.
You know this game was never really all that bad. To me this game is right up there with ESO in that it provides a solid single player story experience, high production value along the way, combat and gameplay was fun.
Problem was endgame of course, though for both ESO and SWTOR playing through the campaign again was definitely feasible.
My problem was the switch to free to play. EA say "hey buddy you know how you bought the collectors edition and paid a sub for those months...ooh yeah were free now so can I have $5 so you can get those hotbars you filled to the brim with marauder skills back?" "oh and we took the liberty of merging servers and giving someone else your character names, all of them, oh and you cant just make a new character and start off fresh to see if you want to come back, please pay us again or delete one of your max level toons"
I'm sure the game is doing fine, this IP would succeed regardless, and the game gives a fantastic leveling up experience. I would never come back though. I paid my fair share to EA, I never asked for new content after the f2p switch, just that since I gave them close to $100 maybe allow me to use my character slots, skill bars, and not pretend I'm a free player that needs to be squeezed at every corner for a few bucks. Hell id have probably just put the subscription back on had they not done this. Its what I did for tera, another p2p that switched, I came back and I was given gifts, free cash shop currency, ability to cut in login lines, and a thank you for my past support and they got a reactivated subscription as a thanks...that's how you do it.
Oh and I forgot, the allowed someone from a Romanian IP address to continually log onto my account activate a subscription on a CC they saved for years past my last login, who luckily was unsuccessful in making hundreds of $99 cash shop purchases, and luckily my bank gave me back the subscription a money a month after I noticed it. Its like, your EA, get your shit together, people don't go inactive for a year then move to Romania from Chicago then try to spam purchases, yet you allowed my personal CC info to remain on my account long after it was apparent I had stopped playing.
I do have the urge though. If the above mentioned things never occurred id start the download right now just for the campaign part again. Also I sorely miss backhanding my slaves on my overweight sith.
