Gender-locking should have stayed in the 90s where it belongs.

It's a little misleading in this case, as classes have planned counterparts

It still leaves a bitter taste. One version is going to be inevitably better than the other - as is the case with any two mechanically different things.

In Blade and Soul, for example, the Lyn race has an exclusive Blade Dancer variation on the Blade Master. The Blade Master is one of (if not the) worst classes in the current NA version of the game. The Blade Dancer is one of the best classes.

So, to play the more fun, superior version of this class, I have to pick a race that I despise. How is that mechanically good?

I like how BDO is handling classes.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Gender locking to me is ok so long as they have of plenty of classes and a good mixture of bisexual classes.
Are you onto something or just on something?

Pearl's argument that copying an existing class to add the other sex would take almost as much time as creating a whole new class doesn't make any sense to me. What sort of screwed up system do they have where that would be such an internal mess? With the other sex, it's not like they would have to worry about adjusting for class balancing or anything.

Maybe most of the work is in the Animations and such.

I actually think this is a really cool approach to the class make up.

If there is not necessarily going to be a "Male Ranger" but a counterpart, I think that is cool.

As the article stated this is similar to the Warrior / Valkyrie approach, also notable is the Wizard / Witch. From a namesake a female can be a Wizard but a male can not be a Witch.

    What are your other Hobbies?

Gaming is Dirt Cheap compared to this...

Perhaps actually do an internship and see who classes/races etc are made then y ou would understand them ....but yes it tames the same amount of resources to make a male or female version of the same class as it does a new class so why not make a new class?

That is inherently false. You do not have to design new skills. You do not have to rebalance. Most of the animations may still work. It absolutely takes less effort to unlock a class than it does to create, animate, and balance an entirely new class, and the game will be better for it.

Lol I knew that wouldn't be taken the right way.  Bisexual as in both sexes are playable for classes.  They have games with race locked classes as well.  Its not bad so long as there is a lot of choices and they have at least 5 playable classes which aren't gender locked.

They also have all those clothing options, skin showing and all, so having to redo them must be a lot work which is probably why they are keeping the gender lock in place. My husband think the game looks great or should I say the female models in their clothes.

You only need to look at FFXI and WoW to see why they are right. You want to see a good example of what happens when you treat males like females and vice versa. Look at the horrible animations of EQ2. Animations was one of the great things about FFXI that I wish FFXIV had taken to same extent. Animations were on a per race AND gender format. Every female race and every male had a different animation. It was beautiful.

While PA/BDO aren't going as hardcore as FFXI did. They are adding minor differences between the classes. For me the Male Ninja and Female Ninja so far are the more noticeably different. They should be thanked for the effort they are putting into it.

    Look at these two video's:

Animations in Asian games always seem so much better, with a lot of nuance.

I remember the first time I played Final Fantasy 14 I noted all the subtle little movements of the body and the clothing.

And now I've been playing Dragon's Dogma (single player game) and was nothing how much weight and substance the characters have with their movements.

I didn't see anything like that. The only mention I saw that had some specificity was the "halfling" race.

So much for playing the character and persona I want in an MMO. Why even have any choice if this is how they stand and choose to do it?
After all the reading and such regarding this game, they have lost my interest entirely. To those that eat up this type of game: Good luck! I hope you find the game you are searching for.

To me, this just continues to highlight how much I will dislike this Developer and the game they have made. It does have some shiny bits though that look really good but overall it reeks of regret to me.

I guess there is no Title IX in fantasy worlds.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

No, a bisexual class is a good idea! It would make grouping a lot easier.

If people have problem with gender locking don't play the game. It is the developer's right to set the lore of their game, they don't need to abide by somebody's political correctness in the fantasy world they are creating.

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

From a forum thread on blackdeserthq.com

    Question By Shawn Mallette

    Quote:
I am curious. You mentioned a dwarf race, will there be a playable class for dwarfs in the future? Or are they strictly an NPC race?

I appreciate how many questions you answer! Black Desert looks so amazing, you guys are doing a wonderful job!

    Answer By Pearl Abyss

    Quote:
We are still discussing about dwarf race. It could be, but not sure when we makes it. At this moment, dwarf race is exist only NPC.
Ok, but that's not really a confirmation. It just pretty much reiterates their other info that when they add races they will do so from races that already exist in game.

When you said confirmation I was thinking that they said "yup, next up dwarf race!"

Why is everyone crying about the genderlock? I am more concerned that their races are so...typical. Nothing at all creative.
Think it would be much easier to implement a races already in the lore than introducing a completely new one. Some of them aren't that common, you have Deer folk, half animals (otters I think) and Shai what are like mouse or mini elfs or something lol
