I have always loved these type of games but sadly not enough time to play them all,so i missed several along my travels.I might while waiting for a couple games to come out,go back and try some of these older games i missed.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Oh yes one more thing how much area near a crystal do I have to clear before I can open an outpost there to enable me to capture the crystal. Not sure what is the grid area I need to clear don't want to leave something that later comes to attack me with superior units.
I finally noticed the line near the mobs area of control, don't know know how I missed that. I now have also figured out how to increase my main champion's attack rating and increase the group size which helped. I love Bill's webbed attack that has saved my hiney from those mounted attacks which are deadly. Give me some horses. I lost Ben my bear /sob.
Do I have to train other units and also increase their attack rating by getting them to fight am unsure how the final attack against the Sorcerer King is. Is it one unit only fighting or do you bring multiple units ?
Loving the game now . As I understand it more it is helping me enjoy it.
The Civ games have a tired mechanic. There's usually a way to win or a way to build correctly. But really the problem I have is that the game takes forever to play. the turns take forever. In the end its a simple game but with all the AAA visuals and AI it moves like molasses
Endless Legend is in my opinion one of the great overlooked 4X games. There are... imbalances that exist, but to me at least, these imbalances are part of what makes it so interesting.
Not sure if anyone listed it but Pandora: First Contact is a fairly fun 4x. I played it prior to Beyond Earth showing up so it didn't feel like any kind of a knockoff/copy then to me. It tends to have more wars than Beyond Earth in my experience by a lot. One nice thing it has is that your resources are pooled across your empire. So you can have a city that is the bread basket if you want and another that is all mines and so on. Everything said though I would only recommend buying it if is on sale for $10 or thereabouts.
I am finally getting some very crucial understanding of how these games work. Because of my MMORPG background I keep seeing threat and aggro very differently you see. I placed units outside the city instead of placing them inside the city and the sorcerer king's wraith promptly attacked my city with its census, administrator and farmer units in position. I lost the game and got to see the credits . I then created a small game with tinier territory to make me see what actions the sorcerer king responds to. Basically you can make two cities but taking over shards are what causes him to get upset and he is still offering me aid even after I have gotten one ally to completely like me. The swamp guys are fickle the dwarves were easier.
I went ahead and bought Age of Wonders 3 and Endless Legends. Thanks guys for introducing me to 4x games. It has been quite a revelation and frankly not as boring as I thought although Sorcerer King is a little crash happy.

CKII and EUIV are a different genre (grand strategy, not 4x) and definitely worth checking out
