And as always people tend to not read the article carefully, but comment tidbits of it. I agree with the author. Healers don't get much attention from ZOS. From all the lots 'n lots of sets there are too few dedicated to healers. Most classes don't reflect the healing part of the class well and there is not much to find for healers in the game.
Could be done better.
Absolutely agree. If this game is in fact a trinity one - and some people are still saying it's not - but if it is, then the healing class is vitally important. Personally I feel it's a watered down role, due to the every class can equip a staff and off you go. Healers have never been glamorous roles. They don't get the big hits on the dps meter, there's no I critted the boss for xxxxx etc. But done right, it's one of the most rewarding to play.
So a careful read of the article shows the accuracy, not just a skim through then healers are ok we need more dps comments.
ESO isn't WoW, nor should it be. But if the game is truly a trinity model (and I'm still not convinced), then this game can learn a bit about looking after a dedicated healing role.
It is pretty simple. If you love healing and that is your focus? Not the game for you. I really enjoyed my time with ESO but only when I was playing solo and treated it like a single player RPG. Pretty much the same could be said with TOR as well.
ESO can't be punishing healers when there is no trinity system. Sure I have seen people swear, they were healers and tanks. Yes they build them that way but that was their choice. This isn't WoW. This is a game of damage dealers, and or hybrid classes. My advice is to treat it as such.
I am a little surprised that OP expects that there exisits something like a healer class in todays mainstream MMOs. Healer class is dead for some time now. I hope you enjoy all your dodging, running around like chickens and self healing.
ESO is very much a role based game for group content. It is not a Blade and Soul, GW2, everyone responsible for their own heals game.
In the current game however, any given player can have access to gear and skills that cross the role boundaries and allow you to perform more than just "heals", "Tank", and "DPS".
In addition, the power creep of the champion system has allowed advanced characters to be an "all in one" hybrid by being tanky, putting out dps, and self healing.
This is happening because the possibilities of builds and the way you play are very open. You are really not forced down one road. Any Armor, any Class Skills, any Weapon, any Enchant, any Attribute Point allocation, any Champion Point allocations with passives. Being one of the best games out there for character building has allowed advanced characters and great theory crafting to build beyond what they should be capable of doing.
As I said before, ZOS is making changes to abilities to bring this into balance. They have adjusted tanking and now on March 7 they adjust healing. Yes they are Nerfs, but yes they are needed.
The average player is going to pick and play a role however and until you are very advanced, you won't be performing multiple roles very well.
With new Patch Resto using DKs will be a thing as well as more and more resto using Sorc(shields up the wazoo) healers The templar as heals will be ok but The other 2 will be better
So false but how I wish it would be true :awesome:
And 90% with the author says isnt right.
Healer in eso doesnt mean heal only but heal/dps/buff you will be a bad healer if you only heal.
Your last sentence just proves the OP's point. You can fill a roll as dps and just dps, you can fill a role as tank and just tank, can you fill a role as healer and just heal? No, you can't. As you said, you will be a bad healer. Healer role in ESO is more hybrid than the other two by design. Game mechanics and gear selection for healers almost force hybrid healers.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
Hah, try being a tanky type player. Heavy armor is useless for anything but group PvE. Even then only a couple dungeons require one heavy wearer. Want to be tanky in PvP or stuff like vMSA. Give it up and put on your medium/light armor and max damage sets. Otherwise you are useless. This game is geared 100% toward damage dealers. At least healers can run a dps setup and fully function. There really is little difference between a healer and dps in this game. Meanwhile a 1/3 of you armor options are a waste with heavy.
So yeah they make these heavy sets but in the end its useless. One player might wear a heavy set when running prison or a trial. To do anything else you have to completely change to dps playstyle.
Yeah, I agree. It does seem ZoS has it out or healers (Templars in particular) but try being a dedicated tank in heavy armor... lol, that's the real joke. Heavy armor needs and has needed love for a long time, I'm sick of seeing everyone in robes or shirts or the occasional medium armor Nightblade.
It's all about DPS, dps dps dps dps dps dps dps...
I never play DPS roles in MMO's. I've always gravitated to tanking or healing myself so I can def commiserate with the author on that point.
Hmm... I keep finding myself coming back to this thread and SMH. So, how should I put this, I am a "Front Line Healer" in ESO. I am The Best Magicka Templar PVP Healer, lol. A purist of healing builds of any mmorpg. In PVP all I do is heal, In PVE all I do is heal. You can't be jack of all trades and expect to be master of all, pick your poison. Meaning, you can't be a healer and expect to out dps another dps specific magicka templar. Get gear easy? My understanding is the best gear in game was the hardest to get, if it wasn't, what is the point? Healer specific gear, other people have posted, I have no problems with any of those sets, while I was leveling and end game. So, is my first vid of a series of PVP Healer. Also remember, there are so many other builds than the meta, different builds for different skills.
