Classes are meant to have different strengths and weaknesses. It's how you use them to your advantage that sets them apart. If you wanted perfect balance, then every class will be 10 10 10 10 1 damage 1 damage 1 damage. Easy peasy. no cries of balance issues.
Well they might appear gender locked they are not locking genders, they are simply cutting corners on development. If you look over several areas of the game, like Ranger uses no ammo,no crafting of ammo, this was a cheap lazy and unrealistic design. I even still to this day wonder why they have to make every single character animation look like a player with ADDS.I believe the real truth is they again cut corners on animation frames, half the work half the cost.If you ever notice MOST Asian games also use buildings with no insides, they tend to have the npc's always standing out in the open.No insides,no modelling, saving cost yet again.
Point is they are not gender LOCKING<they simply did not want to make added models and save a lot of time and money. I am definitely no expert on classes as the game has not intrigued me at all but from my searching around Korean players claim the Ranger and Valkyrie and Witch are perhaps the 3 best pvp classes.
To m,e that just reinforces the reason you don't want pvp in your game as pvp must be 100% balanced and NEVER will be.Secondly a PVE games does not need balance and also opens up more good combat ideas because of it as well it reinforces the grouping game, something most devs have no clue how to design it.

I like the way Black Deserts does its classes. I can see my self making a Valk and a Warrior because even though they are similar they are different. I would not make a Male and Female of the same class that plays the same.
I just wish every class in game had a different sex version right now instead of waiting to see if they make them in the future like they said they might do.
I don't mind the gender lock. I mind there isn't a counterpart. I mind there is no male version of the ranger, sorcerer and tamer and no female version of the berserker.
Is the male wizard less powerful than the female witch, no? That would be the only valid proof you could possibye provide, your examples are apples to oranges comparisons.
Like I said in my other post. My sorc will probably always die to an archer in a 1v1. They're both female. Where do we go with the genderlock argument from there?
The argument is about femalecounterpartsvs male counterparts not the female characters in general. The archer and sorcereress are two completely different classes whereas the valk and warrior are supposed to be similar in playstyle and (mostly) feel but with tweaks. The argument here is that the valk has too many positive tweaks compared to the warrior.
I've not actually got the game yet but from what I understand the balances are still yet to come, aren't they? Isn't the NA/EU supposed to follow up with periodic updates leading up to being the same version (content-wise) as the korean version?

Classes should play differently, and have different strengths and weaknesses. As you say, we can all agree on that? If not, then play a game that is classless progression; you choose your own path.
Now, as for gender. Several people on this site seem upset. But, it's hard to understand why. Is there really no other class you could play and enjoy? Is the gaming experience so esoteric for you, that you must play a specific class, as a specific gender, with a specific skill set equal to every else's?
Those questions are why people find it hard to understand your argument.

My class isn't as good as class X.... because some irrational anecdotal arguments.
Theory crafting isn't irrational or anecdotal. People who play WoW know they're going to get outDPS'd by an Arcane Mage on an Affliction Warlock because that class performs better, and it's easy to prove.
If they can prove the damage disparity exists and the issues with disparity farming efficiency, mobility, etc. do in fact exist...
Then they obviously have a good point.
Not sure why everything has to be down to class envy. Sometimes, the disparities are big enough that it's totally legit to ask for either a nerf or a boost - whichever makes sense in that situation.
The reason why "class envy" is a thing is because people who play the more powerful classes like to keep their advantages, and dislike being brought down to be in line with other similar classes ;-)
There hasn't been anything but opinion In this thread. Some guy said his valk "feels" better than his warrior and that was the basis for the entire argument. From my experience both classes seem viable at end game.
I am playing warrior and couldn't care less if some other class is better at X. I'm having just as much fun exploring, adventuring and goofing off as I would with any other class.
Though I will say I also hate gender locks in MMORPGs. As a casual RPer playing games for immersion, pretending to be a girl isn't my thing. Tamer seems like a fun class to play, but I wont wear a dress to play it.
I hate genre locking too, specially in game where devs were so lazy in making armors look different. I think people would be more forgiving towards genre lock if there was actually ways to look different in terms of armors. And to my knowledge only way to get costumes is buying them from cash shop right now.

There seems to be an agreement between most BDO veterans, that the Female characters simply outperform their male counterparts.
The Valk is better than the warrior, the plum is better than the blader and so on and so forth.
Yes, there may be specific and very limited scenarios in which this may not be true but overall and for most purposes, it is so.
The frustrating part is that this is not new.
This has held true for a lot of genderlocked games, perhaps because Female characters sell more, and it is just as annoying every time.
No matter if you care or care not about playing this or that character, i think at the very least we can all agree that your preferred character gender should not be a factor on how well you will perform during your gameplay.
I mean, i thought this was 2016 and not 2003.
I am curious as to why they went with this design decision.

Money, perhaps they will introduce more character variety later, at least we can hope so, but for the moment, most of the classes are female gender locked, not a problem if you prefer to play female characters, and there is all that lingerie in the cash shop for people to buy, and they probably will, not sure why they think most players would prefer to play a female character over a male one, though that seems to be how the game was designed, there doesn't seem to be any lore that would give any kind of reasoning for it either, which makes me wonder if its an unfinished game, and that originally the game was meant to have more varied classes?
I don't like gender locking for the simple reason that it limits customization. BDO claims to be this new sandbox style MMO, yet chooses to limit gender choices, has no trade, and doesn't even let the players control the AH. Seems they've gone out of their way to limit its "sandbox-ness," but maybe that's just the Asian influence.
That said, I don't mind gender locking as it's done here because it has sister classes as opposed to Diablo 2, for example, that only let you play female if you wanted to be a sorcerer of any kind. If BDO has class balance issues, it isn't due to the gender but rather due to class design. If all Warriors suddenly became female, the Valk would still be better in other words. The only time I've seen a legitimate game balance issue due to gender is when females are given smaller hitboxes due to animations or physical avatar size.
I am in a duo and we play valk/warrior and I agree the valk is undeniably stronger at the moment. The valk one shots large groups of enemies before the warrior can get a single swing of one of his power skills. Even then it takes the warrior 2 or 3 swings to clear a similar wave. I'm sure in PvP each class has ups and downs but in PvE and farming there is no contest.
It's amazing that some people can't understand the issue here, and accept that some people care about the appearance of their avatars. The company touts it's character customization, but all members of a class are the same sex and look very similar . . . naked They company says it won't be releasing the other sex of any given class, but that there is another class of the other sex that is it's counterpart, but the two classes are very different. There is NO way that is not stupid. Accepting something stupid is fine, we all do it all the time, but that does not make it any less stupid. Just admit "yeah, if your character's avatar is important to you that would be annoying" and move on.

Yes nut can you 100% say that all female classes are better then the male classes which is the bottom line that OP was trying to make.
