Well, this blows. And I can't find any forums link on their site, which double blows. If EQNext is dead, what exactly are they going to do with Landmark then? All that work people put into different cultural builds? So much left unanswered and frankly unless they throw us a bone, I'll never give them another dime.
Well I am not surprise but definitely sadden. This was one game I truelly was hoping to for. I am now down to one last game Pantheon... guess we will see.

In the grand scheme of things, all that really keeps changing is the name of what they call the game.
First its EQNext, then EQNext: Landmark, then Landmark, then EQNext and now back to Landmark.
Releasing anything called Everquest with what they have done currently would only damage the value of the IP. Cobbling together the few things that work and sticking with the Landmark brand for an "official" release costs them nothing.
I'm sure some of those assets will be thrown in there somewhere.
It reads like they were saying there's no way they could strip it down and still make it work.

Its a sad day for MMO's. I was really hoping the EQN was the MMO that was finally going to move the genre forward

Sad but not unexpected. Too bad. I was looking forward to seeing their new ideas on mob spawns and migration in practice.

They are an investment company. Their entire purpose is to make money. If they feel that taking a risk will not bring back a decent return they won't do it.
In your own investments how many are high risk investments? I bet not a whole lot. I have absolutely none. And I wouldn't give my money to anyone who tried to sell me otherwise.
Not many regular people would.

That my friends is the dethknell of Daybreak and possibly the previous two Everquest games. This will be the end of an era.
I was recently thinking about buying EQ2 and playing that but I am glad I refrained from it, due to this. I dont totally trust EQ2 to last very long, now. Might as well stay in WoW, at least they have a future.
I'm glad. EQN was an abomination of the Everquest franchise, hated the direction.
I will settle for nice new game engines and reboots of eq1 and eq2. Never happening, but one can dream!
Couldn't agree more. Can't say I'm surprised about the news. This project has reeked of vaporware for a while. They need to sell the franchise to a real game company that can start a proper EQ3 from scratch and shitcan the entire abortion of a game that EQN represented. I would be thrilled with a remake of EQ1 with better graphics/UI/innovations/improvements. Bring back a real EQ experience FFS!
This isn't the end of the world as we know it folks. It sucks that it failed. For the prognosticators, grtz. For the white nights, shrug it off, plenty of others to support.
People shouldn't get so vested in games until they are a bit more mature in the development cycle.
This, to me, is 100% the fault of Columbus Nova, EQN was going to need further funding & they are at zero interest level in spending money, only milking it from their holdings, they have a lot of prior form on cutting staff & not investing, essentially putting businesses into a holding pattern, stagnant, but efficient & churning out those dollars. The layoffs were just the start & followed the familiar pattern these parasitic buyers have.
I do not see much future game development from DBG at all, they'll simply try to make as much money from existing properties. Hugely & bitterly disappointed but not in the least bit surprised, the best hope for any future EQ is going to be if a different buyer wants it & buys it off Columbus Nova, something I very much doubt will happen.
Things will only improve for mmorpgs after all the dinosaur approaches hit rock bottom and we have a long, uncomfortable silence. When all hope is lost, then some fledgling game will come from nowhere and wow us. And each and every one of you are that new hope for this dying land forgotten by the gods. Only you can return the world to...
