The ad didn't make it clear.

I'm not sure how else they're supposed to fund their project, mortgage their homes and go deep in debt?

Milking is when people have no choice in the matter and their wallets are emptied involuntarily. This is not the case here because yes you can wait for release, or choose to help fund something you want to see become reality.

I have no interest in the game personally, but I see nothing wrong with this.

If they don't have the funds for the project maybe they shouldn't have started the project. Now they are trying to mooch from people.

    15$/month?

Way too fucking expansive, even wow is cheaper

Nowadays server are so cheap, nothing can explain the price of 15$/month

Another failure, greedy people behind this game since its origin

    Because servers = bandwidth.

I have no desire in playing Darkfall but $15 is nothing in reality, $.50 a day.

If you cannot afford $15 a month you probably should not be playing video games.

I wish I could ONLY pay $15 a month to gave access to a game's entire content. Since the advent of F2P and B2P I end up spending much much more.

This is where two licences out there is going to bite both companies during the early days. Many ex DF players will sit on the fence and wait for the other developers beta plans, even more so with a sub to play the beta on a time investment game. These two companies really need to join forces for one Darkfall, or they risk canceling each other out so to speak. The niche this games fills doesn't have enough players for both, there can only be one. It's most likely the community will pick a game and head to it, or jump ship to the other if one not delivering. That's the risk relaunching a game that has communities already established.

Thats exactly the price for Darkfall: RoA
Founders packs are optional but no box price will be required at launch online the $15 sub fee

Wow what b2p games are you playing? And as b2p for computer games originated c. 35 years ago that's a long time as well.

Sad that in all these years there's still only Themepark/WoW Clone's to choose from.

Don't you know, it's all for charity.  They can't use kickstarters, founder's packs, donations....... like you said mortgage homes and bank loans.  The only problem with that is, they can't have cash shops, subscriptions, microtransactions after it is done.

Maybe MMOs should fall under PBS and be run by the govment.

I self identify as a monkey.

    AHAHAHAHAHA!

...DF has been around since 2009. you had to buy the game and pay a premium subscription then. everything that players accumulated and built was wiped in 2012.

Then you had to go and buy Unholy Wars AND pay a subscription.....and now everything that people have accumulated and built will be wiped.

now you get to BUY a "founders pack" for 99$ for beta, and there will probably be a sub once it launches.

    ....this is just priceless....

What they're doing is absolutely no different than any of the AAA developers today are doing. If not a single person paid for a package I have no doubt the game would still launch. The biggest difference here is these guys can actually use the help where the AAA founders packs are just a money grab.

There are some that want DFO back.  I would like to play it and I don't think that $15 a month is too much to play it.  The hardcore fans that want it back can buy the beta/alpha stuff.  I don't know why people think this is such a wild/outrageous idea.

I don't think DFUW is being wiped (to the poster above).

Edit:  To the poster below.  I'm pretty sure there are known Darkfall players behind at least one of these projects.  I'm also pretty sure they don't have any love for AV.

I'm unable to find any information on Big Picture Games Ltd outside the Darfall:RoA website, that has nothing more than some pictures of people with a brief description of who they are. According to Adventurine SA website they license technology (game engine) yet this game isn't just an engine, it's all of the assets of the previous two failed darkfall games produced by Adventurine themselves.

Maybe I've just got my tinfoil hat on to tight today, but this looks like a scam by Adventurine to sell the same game a 3rd time. This time through a "community funded project", through way of an Ltd company backed by Adventurine SA.

In otherwords, they're licensing the game to themselves.

A startup game developer bought the rights. They have no background to look into.

I'm a little surprised that there wasn't a non-compete on official Darkfall emus. I'm even more surprised that anyone is even interested in RoA when New Dawn is actually addressing all of the major problems and has a real roadmap of how to make Darkfall worth playing.

I really hope these two servers competing for the same playerbase doesn't cancel both servers out.
