Blizzard has announced that it will be releasing the 1st new patch for WarCraft 3 since 2011. As with the Diablo 2 patch, released last week, it is likely that WC3 update will be focused on making the game run better on newer operating systems. In a video released for the very active Chinese WC3 community, Robert Bridenbecker said that this is the first stop among many improvements for the game.

Much like Diablo II - I think they're preparing for a 2nd life and release it on mobile devices.

Probably more a kin to keeping the copyrights from floundering into abandonware territory.

This was my first thought as well. I miss the Warcraft series. Without it, there would be no WoW.

I'm for one very excited to see what 1.27 and future patches will bring to WC3. I boot up the old classic at least once a year to play a few games. With a few quality of life improvements, maybe even some HD-fication further down the road(?). WC3 could very much become one of my regulars once again.

I'm excited, can't wait to see how and if WC3 evolves anything substantially over the year.

I'm curious. I remember there was potential signs of old classics perhaps one day surfacing on their B.Net client a few years ago. It makes me wonder; with their now showcased desire to look back at old classics again, do you guys think it'll ever come to the B.Net client?

Abandonware isn't a legally recognized term regarding copyright and doesn't loosen ownership if the creator doesn't do anything with it for a while, it isn't trademark law.
