I have a question, because I haven't yet seen "planetary landing". Is it basically a cutscene, or do pilots navigate a sort of atmospheric breach, in the transition from "space" to "planet" as No Man's Sky? Has anyone from the public actually seen this?
I would not say the chart is meaningless as the discussion about it gave it meaning.
And my intention was to show visually how SC development can be compared to other game developments. For a proper comparison you would need many more parameters like just comparing the needed time resource. We do not have proper data like man-days, comparable project plans, where which money was spent, etc. cc.
It it just is an image which sometimes can say more than thousand words. Figurative language.
I know what the intention was but most people won't understand that without context its meaningless. Sounds like you do. Most don't.
The short version: Chart shows WS as taking 9 years. First 2 years were indy Carbine scoping an idea and agreeing a price with NCSoft. If negotiations - as can happen - had taken an extra year WS would have taken 10 years. No extra code would habe written in that extra year..
I'm curious about how long they are stalling to make this game? seems like they'd rather keep adding content before its released(like firefall) so they can run this buissness into the ground and justify all the money gone. tbh I know nothing about whats going on with this game but these forums are full of drama when it comes to star citizen being released, space ship prices, cash grab, buissness sabotage. can anyone give me a really small snipit of how the game is progressing?
Kickstarter raised about $6.2 million upon completion or the fundraising period in November 2012.
Since then they have raised over $110 million total funds.
Some people think it is all a scam.
Some people keep donating.
Some people complain that there is no game or will never be a game.
Some people post video's and screenshots taken while playing the game.
Some people think that at just over 3 years of funding and development it still has probably 2 years left if you take a 5 year average form MMO development.
Some people think they have already taken too long.
Some people argue that SC should be released following the same time scale as was promised when the game had a design budget of $6.2 million but to include all of the additional features that £110 million allows.
Some people accept that such a drastic leap in funding requires a drastic extension in project scope and development time.
My best advise is don't waste time worrying about it and just wait till the game either releases or does not.
I already watched this i think was yesterday or day before. Chris put me literally to sleep lol. It got me to thinking,at first i thought ,man alive he needs someone else to do those as he is just boring as heck. Then another thought hit me lol.I was thinking there really is never anyone else just him,so i thought ,i wonder why.My hunch is that he is afraid to let anyone else speak ,he is afraid they might spill the beans on something and he can cover up and fake answers easier when he is the guy in charge, while others would simply say IDK.He is also the guy hand picking these so that he has a chance to actually answer them.
Now someone will tell me it's called "FOR THE CHAIRMAN" dumbass of course he is going to be answering the questions all the time.Yes exactly my point,i don't think he can trust anyone else to lie or make shit up on the fly.
Catch 22.
A professional would do it better. It would be extra cost though - and the peron would need to take at least as much of CR's time. And if they wanted to increase the accuracy of anything talk to developers etc. themselves. More time, more structure to the company - as those things they will already have reported on.
So it is what it is. The result of a fairly light organisational model.

Thousands of people pay to "subscribe to the development" of this game, $10 to $20usd per month. The people involved, on and off camera, are people already in the employ of CIG, so they already get a paycheck.
Think about that, just for 5 minutes.
CIG claims, "Telling you what we're doing wouldn't be possible without the added support of subscribers!". K. neato. And you know what's fubar? People believe and like it.

I think it differs wether you land on a crowded planet with cities (landing zones) or not.
For the former it seems to be something like this:
For or the latter they presented this:
As they said that they achieved the procedural tech much faster than anticipated I do not know what influence it might have on the former landing sequence. CR has stated several things on how to approach this but I will just wait and see with what they eventually will come up with.
Little bit dated but still shows that the "will it ever come out" argument is inappropriate.
That graph is so funny in how inaccurate it is, and how desperate people are to defend the lack of progress that SC has made. Heck just look at ED, development for it started at the time of its kickstarter, one year after SC started its development, and yet someone made up some number to fake its development length. Hint, its development was 2 years.
Oh and there is no planned release date, CIG do not give dates anymore. The last planned release date for it was 2014.
So according to that wildly inaccurate graph, SC should by now almost have as much content as vanilla WoW. The phrase 'lol' doesn't really cover it here.
well were all on the outside looking in. Dont think for one second MONEY does not CHANGE people. They expected a 10th of what they got. So I can see a small dream going HUGE.. .yet were talking MILLIONS. Then $45 for the game... well part of it then like $15 for another part.. I bet that will change though.
Last I heard they HOPE for the game to launch by the END of this year.
And in the same vein CIG pulled a star marine with pirate swarm. It's already in game guys! Oh but we aren't gonna work on it for the foreseeable future.

Why is there a chart showing development times of MMORPGs being used as an argument for a game that's not an MMORPG? Well, except for ED. But if that's the only valid sample, I'd delete the chart and hope no one ever sees it.

Someone posted one over in the RSI forums but it was so inaccurate that it was torn apart very quickly
It took many thousands of years before the human race invented the wheel. It's going to take quite some time yet before the similarly-human backers realise just how unrealistic their expectations of this game are. It will literally have to set their computer on fire before they admit something might be slightly wrong.
and when they finally do it will be very very interesting to hear who they find at fault. Clue: it will be everyone but Chris. I'm expecting everyone else to get thrown under the bus starting with Crytek 'not meeting promises'.
There are people who literally believe the game may fail because they do not do enough. They must do their parts, keeping reddit and other forums clean of negative views, contributing as much money possible and spreading as much propaganda as possible. If they do not do this, CIG will not have effective enough public opinion and funding to finish the product and the whole thing might just collapse.

I don't know about all that stuff. I just want to play an updated version of Wing Commander.
