I admit, when bored to tears with today's piss-poor mmo game selection, I occasionally click on one of these godawful game advertisements, and I always come to regret it 15-20m later.

Funny thing is, I have to jump through some hoops to actually click on them due to how many plugins I have to prevent it in firefox. Me and rojo have that in common, except my webpages show images as well as the text.
Just because you click on an ad doesn't mean you have to play the game.  There's no law against finding out what a game is about before you download and install it.

I don't think I have on purpose.  I completely tune out anything that is not directly what I am looking for.  Sometimes I will admit there are "things" shown that draw my attention for a second. . but I never end up reading a title etc.  By things I mean like the old Evony ads.

Thought I would add a link of the "evolution" of those ads for fun :)

Nope always have AD-Blocker on and it will bypass any AD Block filters put in on sites :3.

If it is something interesting I will. Sometimes it happens by accident as well. I don't mind having ads on my websites, and I'm not "afraid" to click on them if it's something interesting. In fact I will deliberately click an ad vs googling something just so they get the revenue. What I can't stand are popups which is something MMORPG.com needs to remove from their mobile site.

I find that I don't.  It's not that I'm against it, it's that they don't look interesting.  The same, sexy women holding a sword or axe or something else fails to generate any desire when everyone uses it.

You know, I have to say, I don't feel bad for using AdBlocker; as another poster mentioned, ads these days are far more "malicious" than traditional ads. If this site had some sort of alternate revenue stream, or didn't advertise completely garbage games, they wouldn't be having problems or would have significantly less problems. Sorry if I sound like an ass, but relying on ad revenue is kind of going the way of the dinosaur. MMORPG.com should really explore some other options, because I would certainly support them if it was an option; I've been a reading/posting member for several years, and have found many games to play through this site (NONE through ads, mind you). I would have no problem sending money their way, at all; however, I'm not doing it through clicking ads all day long, because that would be essentially what it would take to contribute any significant amount.

MMORPG.com is better than Scarlet Blade ads. Come on guys.

Clicking every ad on every site you frequent, is like leaving your front door open day and night, it won't take long before you'll regret it. You're going to get a malware virus.

I never click in any advertisement, Internet should not have those. I have every ad blocker i can get my hands into and the ones which can't be hidden i just try to ignore them.
I don't recall this money grabbing so necessary in the old Internet times...

Curious.  How do you expect websites like this to stay on the air without some form of money generation?
Not my or anyone elses problem. I will worry about the fiscal state of a websites business when they care about mine. This website disappears, another one will take its place. Hell their are already a few that exist right now, including some that have come back from the dead. The internet is too big to worry about how a site pays its bills.

Well 90% of them use ass n' titties and that says a lot about the quality of the game being advertised so even without clicking them it is easy to see which games are garbage. GW2 ESO and TSW are the only background ads that don't use sex to sell their game but I don't need to get those games advertised to me in the first place.

Omg seas of gold MMO? guy completely covered except for neck and face. Girl has skin all over the place and wears a nipple-bra. Seems legit. They should put her on a more sideways angle though so we can see the curve of her ass. This mistake will hurt your sales mr. unknown company.

    Yep.

One of the problems is also, that foreign browsers are no longer very kind to sites offering ads.

This site will appear fine on:

    IE
    Chrome

On Firefox....eh....many add-ons will start throwing warnings,  like Avast.

On foreign Browsers like Sougou, this site is completely blocked due to ads, it is no longer meeting the security protocol needed, so it's getting straight up blocked.

No, especially now that most of the ads aren't even for games. Just had an Avon lipstick ad on the home page...
Lol, thats not them. That is some garbage you installed on your computer.
No, it's them. They've started running non-gaming ads. See this thread http://forums.mmorpg.com/discussion/447293/political-ads/p1

I'm not one of the people complaining, but I don't click on ads on cell phones either.  I have a couple of basic games (solitaire and Sudoku) on my cell phone, but I paid for the ad-free version.  I seldom surf on my phone - the screen is too small for these old eyes :)

You are 100% correct I use my phone as a phone and sometimes a GPS.   I use my desktop for gaming.  Don't play the mobile crap.

I get what @DMKano is saying, however, I've had a bad taste in my mouth on this issue since this site  accused it's members of software piracy for blocking ads.

    https://forums.mmorpg.com/discussion/366061/advertisement-blocking-banner-discussion-and-feedback/p1

"Running adblock on a site that supports itself with advertisements is no different than downloading pirated movies, music or video games."

With cell phones if you install an app or game, some of them steal your sim details while it installs the game. So needing to click on anything isn't the way it works with them.,  Just saying.

But I agree I would gladly pay maybe 4 or 5 a month for an ad free gaming site. But really I have never gotten infected or received spam from this site.

I think you missed what I was getting at. But yeah you can surf with FF or other browsers but the point is any app installed on a cell phone, most will be getting your info and put it out there.

So the way you guys talk about getting infected from this site, none of you should even have a cell phone. 99.9% more of a chance of getting spam and your info getting out there.

    Just saying!

I don't, I've never owned one in my life.

Only reason I'm contemplating getting one is because authorities said they will use smartphones to inform the public about accidents...and I'm thinking....if a nuclear power plant explodes...it would be nice to know.

Totally understand where you're going (and I actually agree, mostly), but there's nothing wrong with people trying to limit the amount of information out there when they can. What you're essentially implying is that, if you occasionally don't wash your hands to prevent infection before eating anything (a snack, something offered, etc), you should never wash your hands and also pick up infected needles whenever prompted.

That was a great response and sad part is I know people like that. It would be nice to pay 5 bucks a month for no ads. For this site to do that they would need to know if the difference from ads to pay would actually give the the same or a little more in funds. I tend to believe the ads would give them more revenue.

Just would hate to lose this site. We really do not have many sites to choose from that are like this one.

I believe the content is great the mods are fair and like I said many times, great people to discuss and argue points with. Even the guys that give us a hard time like @Erillion yet we can still get along. Just don't see sites like this anymore. majority of sites out there are run by game developers. They are in bed with the game they review.
