What current MMO has the most content to offer a new player?

sludgebeardsludgebeard Member RarePosts: 788
As someone who generally doesnt care for end-game content and raiding, what MMO's are out now that give you alot to do as a new player such as but not limited to: Crafting, Side-Quests, Collecting, etc.

I really would like to find an MMO that has got alot of stuff to do right as you enter the game, where you can craft and just do things without having to immediately climb to endgame to get to the meat of the content.

was just now thinking of Eve a bit.

the game that offers a new player with a ton to learn right off the bat. then when they learn it they can put their skills in queue and come back in a few years to actually do said things

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

I think, of a fantasy genre, I'd have to agree with FF14.

When it comes to Crafting, side questing, and collecting i will agree with both Merv and Kyleran. FF14 and BDO so far have some of the most in depth crafting, and collecting goes hand in hand with that. Side questing is plentiful on both. I like both a lot but im not a subscription lover so i may sub to FF14 like one month a year and sometimes not at all.

I personally really dislike FF14 because, early on in the second iteration, they suspended people who I knew for a fact were not guilty of impropriety. It doesn't stop me from extolling the game's virtues, but you won't ever find me playing it again.

If I had the money, I'd buy Oculus Rift, a computer that could run it superbly and only buy compatible games.

I don't think there are many MMORPGs for Oculus Rift at the moment. However, Oculus Rift trumps flat screens.

It's no contest, EQ2 hands down would have the most content for a new, mid level or high level player. There are more quests than a new person would ever have time to complete. There are tons of collectibles in every zone and a huge crafting system.

Everquest 2 is huge on crafting and collecting. Lots of quests as well.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

  • laxielaxie Member RarePosts: 1,122
Everquest 2 is definitely packed with content. How viable it is in the long term is another question.

BDO habds down atm, and given its still new, your not so far behind so you can still go along with the masses, and also lots of population all over the game :) also B2P is bonus ive just spent last 3 days just levelling up some horses for mating/breeding

This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

I love EQ2, and have since release. It's getting old, though. For a newer player, I think the EoF unlock on TLE Stormhold would be pretty good, and that's coming shortly. Jumping into it on an old server, though, is very lonely, unless you already know people.

BDO is great for having lots of side activities for you to do right out of the gate. Just know it's very grind heavy if you want to be competitive at end game (which it doesn't sound like you care about).

    Definitively WoW or EQ2.

However if you're looking especially at the quality of that content, as well as the amount of it, then ESO is a clear winner. I've never spent so much of time leveling my character and even not getting bored in the process.

WoW,FFXIV and wildstar are a good start.

I initially thought of EQ2, but he said "current" and I wasn't sure how it fit under that
  • rodarinrodarin Member EpicPosts: 2,611
Lotro if you have never played it and its not close, although EQ 2 might have enough to be considered in range.

If you wanted to do everything in Lotro content wise it would take you a good 3000 hours I would imagine, thats not counting PvP or seasonal events, but quests, deeds, meta deeds, instances, skirmishes and deeds associated with them, big battles, mini game stuff like the city reputations which unlock other things.

Lotro has a ton of content people that have played it forever just forget and other people that got bored and stopped dont realize how much content it has.

I think ESO has a lot to offer in terms of content and it looks like they have a fairly aggressive attitude in putting out more.

Sounds like BDO is what you're looking for tbh.
  • MickyknoxMickyknox Member UncommonPosts: 61
ESO is the best bang for your buck you can get it alot cheaper then BDO and  FF14. lots of solo content too
  • ShojuShoju Member UncommonPosts: 776
    Final Fantasy XIV.

From what I gathered you don't care about PvE endgame and want a game to just lose yourself in the world doing crafting and things like that right from the beginning? If that's the case than BDO is easily your best choice

Uncharted Waters Online, and probably by a huge margin.  It has more than a decade of accumulated content with most of the content not gated by level.  Some content will take a while to get full access, but you can get access to just about anything by the time you're halfway to any of the three main level caps.

That's right, three main level caps, not one.  It's got a huge amount of stuff to do even if you'd rather stay away from combat most of the time.  The three main spheres of gameplay are co-equal, and if anything, maritime (combat) is arguably the least important of the three.  Do be warned that the game is incredibly complicated, however--likely the most complicated MMORPG ever made.
