After many weeks of shock and horror at the sight of the in-game Black Desert Online store prices, I thought it might be worth asking the paying public (that’s you lot) as to whether or not you’ve parted with your hard earned cash.

I love the game and having thoughts about seriously committing to it, looking for a guild to join for endgame open world GvG. However, should i ever find myself in a position of having to fork out £29 for a Ghillie suit just to be able to be competitive in RvR or to be allowed to play as part of a guild that would be the end of the game for me. No way.

I have spent around $12k on multiple accounts so far.

Cash shop prices don't bother me at all. Considering all of the DLC is free? I can choose to spend some money on an outfit here and there every couple of months. If they start charging for additional content though, naturally that will change.

Nope. Haven't bought the game, mostly because of the insidious monetization model.

    - auto loot is important but you need pets to do it
    - shabby 1 or 2 outfits unless you pay
    - permanent dyes are cash shop only and rng
    - weight/inventory is important, need to use shop to avoid annoyance
    - Pay for advantage outfits, like the treant suit you mention, in the shop. Also costumes with stat boosts only from the shop- typical (but still frowned upon) in a f2p model but not b2p
    - Pay for immortality available in the shop with Ellon's tears.

I want to buy the game and support sandbox MMOs, but I can't buy into this kind of monetization model. And if it's this bad at release, you can rest assured it's only going to get worse.

If a company is going to make me wear tattered rags for 50 levels unless I pay, there's literally no telling what they will do in the future.

dropped the cash on a pet, and bought some dyes with  the left overs (damn them only selling things in 10 dollar increments)

I play MMOs for the Forum PVP

No, not bought a thing. I might if they fix the dye system and remove/change the ghillie suit. Being forced to buy it to be competitive in pvp is irksome.

Have bought a costume for the 30$ but I justified it as if I had spent 15$ on two months for a sub for some other mmorpgs:P Then of course I wanted the Panda pug so I had to spend around 40 to get him from breeding other dogs. And of course bought the conq package. but at this point I figure I may buy a costume(or items equal to that)ever 2-3 months that way keeps on track with the 15$ sub justification I go by lol

BDO is the best game I've ever played and I will support their shop.  I've bought convenience items so far - a pet and quite a bit of storage and inventory space as I do a lot of crafting and economy stuff.  I have to look when people mention 'level' as I am not on a leveling mission, in fact I wish I could turn off leveling as I'm enjoying the game so much.

The fact it is B2P and quite inexpensive at that means I want to support the game's development and keep it going, so happy to spend a 'sub' in the shop each month.

All you players justifying the high prices and buying shop items anyways is exactly why they won't lower the prices at all this year. They are making BANK off you guys. Said straight from the dev's mouths.

I cap my spending so I just put $20 for the month of April. Won't go above that and will probably be less in subsequent months.

If I am enjoying a game then I usually throw money toward the company as game development/jobs don't grow on trees. I'd rather just pay a sub but "there it is".

The only game I couldn't find anything to buy was Elder Scrolls online. There was literally nothing that I wanted in their shop.

    "I needed one early game"
That concerns me. That makes it sound more like a p2w instead of btp.

"Do you think it’s good value for money?" No. Then again, as was said in the article, I don't get the feeling I'm the kind of player that Daum is marketing the shop towards. There seems to be no shortage of costumes and pets being sold, so I don't expect it'll change anytime soon.

$24 for three pets to get around the (presumably intentional) shoddy looting system, and $29 for an outfit to be on equal footing with others who have it in PvP in seems rather too expensive to me.

I enjoyed the game's early levels, but I resent the high prices of gameplay altering items in the cash shop, to the point that I'm unlikely to continue playing and purchasing the random stuff that catches my eye like I did in Guild Wars 2. The high price of gameplay altering items in the cash shop has also turned away several friends that I've attempted to recruit to come play with me, which in turn has further diminished the game's appeal for me.

I expect they'll likely have a significant sale at some point in the future, once the income from people who were fine with the prices slows down. Maybe I'll take another look at it then.

I severely dislike all you people who support these prices (ok, maybe not severely). But whatever, it just means I'll never play it. I was gonna wait until they came to their senses with those prices, but people obviously don't care that much and just throw their money at them .

Sorry man but it's so little money that it's difficult to "stand on ceremony". Especially since I would have no problem paying $15 or $20 for a sub if that's the case.

And since I'm a believer in paying for my entertainment I pretty much evaluate what I'm getting vs the price and make my decision based on that.

If I like a free/buy game, I'll tend to spend about $15 a month, just like for a sub. Haven't bought anything yet though.

Maxed out weight and bought 50 slots of Inventory for my Witch / Zerker and Sorc. Each has a costume, witch has the fishing costume and my zerker and sorc have the Ghillie suit. Cool thing is pets are account wide, same with horses and horse armor .. so I won't add them.

Yeah, I've put a penny in, but having a blast! :)

People have trouble spending 20$ on a hobby they enjoy but don't hesitate a minute about spending money on (overpriced) alcohol at a bar/club or pay 20$ to watch a movie or buying a 200$ pair of jeans.

Learn to spend your disposable income as you please, and not as you are pressured to do.

I purchased the $100 Conquer pack after I tried the beta.

I haven't bought anything from the cash shop yet. Don't know when/if I will. The pace at which I'm playing the game I don't know when a CS purchase will be necessary. Still have yet to use all my Conquer pack bonuses yet.

I bought the $50 starter pack but haven't purchased anything off the cash shop. The prices don't seem particularly expensive to me, I haven't bought anything because there is nothing in the shop that I really want. I don't even use my pet much because its a pain to have to feed it, I mainly only get it out because the hawk's animations look really cool.

I am not sure how much leverage BDO will get with "whales" because you can't buy in game currency with cash (or sell cash shop items for gold in game) like in BnS and other heavy p2w games and there are only a couple of costumes in the cash shop anyway.

The "fallout" from the pricing was probably avoided because it was a non-issue in the first place.

I bought the 29.99 preorder and then spent 60 dollars to get 6600 pearls which I then spent on four more character slots, three pets (one of each because they were on sale), and most of the rest has gone into warehouse space. Basically made my own $90 package.

I don't plan on spending more money until both plum and k... (female ninja) come out and then I'll spend some more money to get the 30 day appearance change thing and some more storage.
  • IselinIselin Member LegendaryPosts: 18,719
I bought the $49.99 package so that does sort of count as "buying something from the store>" But other than that, no, not a thing.

Everyone focuses on the costumes being overpriced, and they are. But to me worse yet is the pricing on some of the more useful convenience items that I would buy if they weren't so oddly priced.

For example, inventory and warehouse expansions, weight limit increases... they are all per-character. For a game that encourages the use of alts so heavily, that is just silly.

And back to costumes... they are not just pricey they are also ridiculously bound to just one character.

Pets are about the only useful (for looting and other functions) cash shop item that are not character bound although they are server bound.

I have bought every full costume for warrior (my main) and will continue to do so but wont spend any money on alts as only ever play one character in an mmo.
