Mourning is actually the largest, I believe, and if not it is definitly on the rise. Supposedly Vindication is losing some player, very slowly, while Mourning is growing.

Yeah, the populations won't matter in a few days. When a game goes free like this the server populations mutate

Just hit 30 with my Human Templar on Vindication, and no the pop on Vind isn't dropping.

    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Score another 'now it's free it's worth a try' player. But the PvP does sound veryyyy good for once; I hope the cities are as interactive as the website suggests. I've been looking for a game like Face of Mankind or EVE, but in a good/non-space setting.

Hope not to be wondering back to WOW again after a day. image

I have no respect for Ashen Temper (considering he got his job by threatening to sue a 14 year old kid), or this game.

When I first loaded up my beta (way back when), I was shocked at the poor quality of the graphics, I felt it was poor even for the games out then. I found the gameplay mediocre and the community poor. I'm really glad I didn't pay one cent for this game. Selling my beta was probably a good idea, heh.

When a game that's struggling to keep player populations goes 'Free', it basically says to me that it's a last-ditch effort to generate interest in the game before it dies. Honestly I don't think Shadowbane offers anything that one can't get from other, better games on the market today, and I'm surprised they're even still trying with the game.

To be fair though, I will try the game again and see if it's no longer a steaming pile, but honestly I don't have much hope.

Shadowbane is a great game, its one of the last totaly ruthless PvP games you will ever get to play. I have played Shadowbane since its release. Shadowbane offers easy leveling, large scale PvP, large scale sieges, player looting and no PvP restrictions at all. I know alot of you anime heads will try Shadowbane only to cry that you got ganked and the person that killed you did not go red. Shadowbane is the true meaning of open PvP.

Shadowbane beta and early in the release was the most fun I've ever had in an MMO. Unfortunately, all those horrid technical issues affected me badly. I had SB.EXE after SB.EXE, could hardly move in guild PvP... actually, could barely move when just a few people were casting near me... and, finally, I couldn't log in for almost 3 weeks due to a technical problem. They gave me loads of free time and even said I could start a new account free, but the only issue they were able to finally resolve was my log in issue. I wasn't alone... tons of people suffered from these problems, though I'm not sure how many were lucky enough to have them all at the same time, like me. ::::31::

Not too long ago, having heard for some time that these things were no longer issues, I decided to try again. After about an hour of whacking spiders, I received the dreaded SB.EXE. I had to grit my teeth but I relogged and kept at it. I got three more in quick succession and that was the end. Since then, I have entirely new computers, both Macs and PCs, (though my old computer was considered pretty high end at the time I initially played SB) and I'll probably give it another try. Although I really dislike having to move my character via mouse, the UI is meh although it is, at least, customisable. and the graphics are pretty dated.. the game really was that much fun. If I get an SB.EXE, however, I just might have to kick the neighbour's new puppy.

Do you have me confused with someone else? I mean, I don't mind if peope dislike or hate me, I don't tend to sugar-coat my replies when someone is doing something they should not... but at least hate me for something real. I have never threated to sue anyone, much less a 14 year old kid. So please, tell me this story...

I thought the different titles were associated with only the postcount until you just said that. Now I'm all confused. I'll probably be confused for days over this... well, at least until I forget about it. I have a terrible memory and I am very easy to confuse. Poor me.

    Here ya go:

How do you calculate my rank?

Ranks are calculated every day at 2:00AM EST. They are only based on the last 30 days of data. We look at the following factors when determining your rank:

    * How many days you visited the site (and logged in). This is also counted when you use our "autologin" feature.
    * How much information you have posted in our forums (not the amount of posts)
    * The quality of your posts. If you post lot of "filler" posts that only consist of a few words this will cost you rank points.
    * Any posts of yours that had to be deleted will cost you 5 rank points (there are only 100 total). To prevent your posts from being deleted, please obey our Rules of Conduct.

    and...

What do the stars mean next to members names?

These stars and the title above it are the users "Rank" at MMORPG.COM. Your rank is based on 100 point scale as follows:

    1-19 Novice Member
    20-39 Apprentice Member
    40-59 Advanced Member
    60-79 Hard Core Member
    80-100 Elite Member

For more information on how we compute our ranks, please see our answer to "How do you calculate my rank?"

In IE you can mouseover your rank/stars to see what your score is, or go into your profile, it is listed there.

EDIT: Heh, wow, some habits are hard to break, can't count how many times I answered this question back when I worked here, just kinda slipped into autopilot with the answering, sorry for the thread hijack. :)

Lol, Blurr. If you are really coming back to try SB, I hope you keep "Blurr" as a toon name, because I'm sure the SB players who see your post will make sure that toon will never get past lvl 25. Have fun in game.

I still cant belive SB has gone free, if it gets a whole load of players back in it (which it should) then it is going to be a really awesome expereince for the vets and the new comers.

Come on everyone, its time to learn about SB, the best FREE game out :D.

So where can i get the client download for free?  Fileplanet wants nearly $6 a month for the use of their service....

Call me a cheapskate but free should mean free.

You don't need to subscribe to fileplanet to download from them. If you are at the download screen, just scroll down until you can see the free servers. You also need to have a free IGN/Gamespy/Fileplanet account as well.

Not really worth it even if it's free. I have tried playing this game several times in the past.

The graphics are awful, and the client performs like a mule with 1 leg trying to pull a sherman tank. The PVP is another example of the standard ASS (Auto-attack Special Sequencing) combat system present in almost every MMORPG in existance. Shadowbane's ASS combat is not as polished as most games though. Then again why would any pvper want to play a "PVP" game where a dice roll is deciding the outcome of every action? Shadowbane's combat system needs to be scrapped. City sieging is one of the worst experiences you will have. Your frame rate will drop to below 1fps. You might go from full health to dead in 2 frames.

    Other points:

    - The world is small.
    - The world is ugly, and randomly generated.
    - There is no story or lore to be found inside the game.
    - Terrain does not mean anything. You can walk over the steepest mountain as if it didn't exist.
    - No dungeons.
    - Monsters can only be found in sqare zones randomly placed on the map. (This contributes to the second point in this list)
    - The world is not persistant. Last time I played they were wiping the servers regularly.
    - Cheats and hacks are rampant in SB.
    - Someone offered to dupe me some gold last time I played within an hour of logging in.
    - The map quickly fills up with 1 man cities leaving no room for real cities to be built.

FIleplanet -is- free, just register a regular account and you can download it, but you have to wait in line for around 40 or so minutes, usually, unless you have a paid account. There are several other places online that have the client to download, can't think of them off of the top of my head at the moment though, just Google it.
Someone on the Shadowbane forums has posted about a torrent, and supposedly has one running, not sure how well it is doing, but it is worth checking out. Here is a link to that post:
