Who said there wasn't any direct link between games and deaths?

"A German train controller has been arrested over the February rail crash that killed 11 people in Bavaria, as prosecutors suspect he was distracted by a computer game at the time."

Yeah I suspect..but will wait till the evidence is in...that the driver was driving and not the game.

What are you saying exactly? How exactly is this linking games to death? This links Incompetence, distraction, and human error to death... not games..

Umm, ok, so the guys an incompetent boob, and it s the games fault that HE was distracted by it. Did the game turn itself on and force him to play at gun point?

Somehow I get the feeling the OP knows this and was being sarcastic with it, or something of that nature.

    That's not the first time.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/4137782.stm

"A South Korean man has died after reportedly playing an online computer game for 50 hours with few breaks."

    "
"We presume the cause of death was heart failure stemming from exhaustion," a Taegu provincial police official told the Reuters news agency.

He was taken to hospital following his collapse, but died shortly after, according to the police. It is not known whether he suffered from any previous health conditions.

They added that he had recently been fired from his job because he kept missing work to play computer games."

Exactly.  Posted with a bit of levity in mind.  Not because of the deaths, but the continued battle of the 'games are harmful' debate.  Did not think it would generate this reaction.

Rail operation today is mostly autonomous. There were multiple errors in judgment from multiple people that caused this accident. The operator in this case did not fail due to being distracted. He was able to do both tasks required of him. It's just that he made a mistake twice in a row. If the video game was a distraction he would have failed to perform either task. On top of this the signaling of the track was changed out of autonomous mode without properly adjusting each train. This is something that would have to go through multiple people with multiple people knowing what is going on with both trains.
The real issue here is the way the rail line is setup. A lot of older lines have only 1 track for sections that are timed on which direction travels on that track. Sometimes its seconds apart. Instead of debating why trains are allowed to share a track going in opposite directions, it's about a mobile game that wasn't a factor.

You're not a Shop Steward by chance are you?

Where I live trains moving in opposite directions sharing the same track is pretty common place. All you have to do is see the terrain to know why.

Justifying  playing a video game while doing your job where safety is a concern.

    Really?

Here another interesting story that happened in my neck of the woods. Instead of a video game, it was two co workers who were romantically involved.

Not focusing on your job causes death, if he read a magazine or fell asleep you would have gotten the same effect so the topic is missleading.

I apologize for bringing this topic up.  Was meant to be a bit of a goof, but people are taking way too seriously.  So once again.  sorry.

I agree but some of these posters are heavily under-medicated so take with a grain of salt...

Saying video games are responsible for the crash is like blaming Alexander Graham Bell for the Jerky Boys.

It was not a train driver who did the accident. It was the train controller sitting in a station and have to control the tracks and its semaphores. One special thing is that the system did not given out an error after giving way to the two trains. Probably this is a serious system fault. And in the hurry he pressed the wrong button to warn the two train drivers.
