Overwatch one of "The 10 Most Anticipated MMORPGs In 2016"?

http://www.killerguides.net/blog/mmorpg/new-mmos-2016

One has to ponder .. does websites really don't care about how MMO (wait .. mmoRPG) is defined, or are they really running out of games to put on even a top 10 list, so they list Overwatch anyway?

Before anyone pointed out .. yes they did say "multiplayer first-person shooter" in the description, but the list is clearly a "The 10 Most Anticipated MMORPGs In 2016", and Overwatch is one of those 10.

Well, this site listed Overwatch as MMOFPS too .. so i bet superdata is going to include it in their MMO report. The broadening continues (not by me though, i am just pointing out who is doing it).

A bit of both.... BUt if it is any consolation this is not new...

Diablo used to be called a MMORPG too back in the day.

This have been a good conversation

Does being called an MMORPG, even when it is totally inaccurate, improve a game's stature ?

It's certainly not an MMORPG, but it's one of the primary MMOFPS that I'm looking forward to in 2016.

    Whats a mmorpg?

The Op asks "Overwatch one of "The 10 Most Anticipated MMORPGs In 2016"?"  citing a Killer Guides Blog Article. The short answer is NO. Killer guides is just wrong.

Does some game I'm never going to play getting included on a list of MMORPGs in any way take away form the enjoyment of the games I am playing?

there's already a topic about this.

nah .. that topic does not show websites are starting to consider Overwatch as a MMORPG.

yup. just not directly, and not immediately.
    Really how?

I just play Overwatch beta .. fantastic game (even I am not much of a pvp player). Listing it as a MMORPG does not diminish my enjoyment of it .. not a bit.

I could find you a website that says anything about anything.

Here's one with LOL as the 4th best MMORPG of all time just ahead of Dream of Mirror Online at number 5:  http://www.thetoptens.com/mmorpg-games/

    Keep on dredging

Really? Can you find one that says Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is a MMORPG? Or Candy Crush is a MMORPG? If you do, please let me know. I am dying to read that.

Sure ... if Overwatch is a MMORPG, why not LoL. Thank you for pointing that out. May be i will make a topic talking about that too.

hmm .. i ask for MMORPG, and you give me MMO.

So .. you are saying MMORPG = MMO now? You agree with not only broadening of MMO, but also MMORPG? I understand.

(BTW, thanks for the links anyway. I am sure they will be useful in the future.)

    [mod edit]

well .. almost every discussion here is a dead horse, sandbox, ffa pvp, harsh dead penalty, instances .. and wait .. yes .. the dead of MMOs.

But at least I am adding a new coffin to the dead horse. Overwatch has not been called, and debate as a MMO yet on its own topic. A little new is better than nothing, right?

Probably because it's not a mmorpg, it's a team based shooter.

No and neither does my dinner taste different. I am not reading those articles to enjoy my games more. I am reading the articles, to read about MMO's. And yes those games in such articles do take away the enjoyments of those articles.

Is it a big problem. Well no, I just stop reading such websites.

I heard they all got hunted down 11 years ago, butchered and stitched into a masks.

Some say the mythical mmorpg is still out there, but we all know these people have only ever seen the masked abominations.

    RIP MMORPG

The issue likely stems from not being able to create a top ten list of upcoming MMORPGs... other than Camelot Unchained and Crowfall there is nothing out there that even builds a little bit of hype for me. So if I was writing an article I would be reaching to add stuff to the list. On top of that, Overwatch is a really, really fun game.

Turns out Pokemon was the first MMORPG.

Massively Multipayer: 2 people.  Much more than 1 person.
Online: It's played "on a line" by connecting two or more devices.
RPG: Pokemon level up and evolve

By the way, you guys catch that preview for that new Marvel horror movie coming out next month?  Captain America: Civil War?

I'm personally looking forward to Marvel's new romantic comedy though: Doctor Strange.

And by movie, you must have meant mmorpg since we'll all be experiencing it together.

See .. someone sensible. And even reading such websites or talk about in forums won't change the game a bit.

Either you like Overwatch, or not .. and i highly doubt if anyone would feel very differently about the game if it is called a MMO, or not.
