So I am confused .. is Overwatch a MMO, or a MMORPG? Or both? It looks like MMO sites love to put Overwatch on their list.

The more interesting question is this ... do you care if it is called a MMO (or MMORPG), or will you play it if it is fun for you?

    Jesus H Christ, now they're trying to claim Overwatch is a freaking MMORPG?

    Someone punch me in the groin, repeatedly.

    Edit;  Just read OP post.  Initial part was reaction to "most anticipated MMORPG".

    To answer the question, the reason they are putting it on the lists is the same reason this website had to do the same thing.  Clicks = $$$, and if they don't, they go out of business.

    Does it have persistence between matches?  If not, then it isn't a MMO.
    Does it have RPG elements, like stats, gear, and skill choices?  If not, then it isn't a RPG.
    Does everyone connect to the same server infrastructure or are matches hosted on someone's computer/console?  If it is the latter, it isn't a MMO.
    Does the world have a persistent state that exists when the player is offline?  If not, then it isn't a MMORPG.

    From what I understand, Overwatch is more similar to Team Fortress than any other game released so far.  I don't consider Battlefield series a MMO, nor do I consider MOBAs to be MMOs because the game world resets for every match.

    That site is also claiming Dark Souls III is a MMO.  Would you like more punches to the groin, or should I grab a baseball bat?

    how is overwatch mmorpg? Is team fortress mmorpg too? Also kiddy graphics casual game, most anticipated game ayy lmao, what can a brand name do for otherwise bad game.

    Its not an MMO, let alone an MMORPG

    I do care because I'm searching for a new MMO and the fact Overwatch has been mislabelled means I've wasted time looking into the game.

    The "Blizzard" label tells me it's a title to avoid, regardless what any web site calls it.

    They make "games" for the masses which don't agree with my more eccentric tastes.

    Well, Blizzard always release quality products - but this isn't my genre. I feel the same way about Heroes of the Storm and Hearthstone.

    I kinda miss their bigger and more ambitious titles. Maybe that's just me, though.

    I don't understand how you people get so worked up over what a 3rd party website calls a video game.  If you can't do your own homework and figure out what type of game a specific game is well that's on you and you should be mad at yourself not some 3rd party random website.  Some of you need to step outside once and awhile.

    Good call. I will follow suit. It is really not surprising that MMO does not really mean much anymore.

    Not long before virtual games played on computers and real life games played on fields or in sports halls will be grouped up so that when your mate asks if you want to play a game you have to ask "Do I need to log on to my computer or put on a pair of trainers"...

    It could also be the most anticipated new menu item at Applebee's. That still won't make it a sandwich.
