They just added Mounts!

They added mounts now, so far a Raptor and Tiger.  You can get the Tiger from  500 log in points (5 days of log ins).

I think this is a really nice added feature, and something I think they were hoping for with our own chocobo's in the past.

This really has been a long time in coming for this game, and with the amount of content thats in this game currently its really nice to have this for someone who might start the game now and wants to catch up to end game, since it takes a very long time to walk everywhere in the game.

Loved the walks but there is just so much content right now, its nice to be able to ride something for a change.

No its not shutting down, and I think companies like SOE could have learned something from Square Enix.  Its about the brand name and not all about HUGE profits.

Its not making HUGE profits, but it is still profitable and they are reducing development teams to levels at which it will remain profitable.

SE puts the enjoyment of its FF series fans and its brandname above HUGE profit margins unlike Smedley did to all of SOE's games.  He most definatly would have shut this game down at the profit levels its at,  but SE sure knows whats right to do and thats keep a profitable game alive for its loyal fans enjoyment!

I hope alot of game companies learn something from FFXI and Square Enix.

Well TRUTH is they did announce it was ending but for reasons i have stated before they changed their minds.Simply put they had HOPED most would switch over to FFXIV.

Anyhow on the topic of mounts, yes long overdue but most certainly a nice idea and even better it is not cash shop mounts like we see in other games.
Sadly they made such a brutal change to the game when they went the route of Item levels, that i simply cannot enjoy the game anymore.First it was Abyssea changes then item levels,i am not going to support ideas i do not like.

I agree at first item levels were so out of wack and bad, but I think they really have perfected it now, and with Ambuscade I think its now worth supporting.  They are offering both group paths and longer solo paths to top end gear in game now, so when they come out with new end game content next month people will be able to start on it without all the early days item levels making everyting out of wack like your saying.

Are you sure? I was thinking about playing (for the first time) and heard that they were doing their last bit of updating, and then it would end. Maybe I was misinformed but this made my mind up for me, when i decided not to try the game out. I like final fantasy 14 but 11's combat system interests me, it looks somewhat turned based in a way? (If I am not mistaken)

The game was only shutting down console versions of the game. The PC version was suppose to remain running, with them mentioning having a mobile version of the game planned to release. They were just going to stop releasing more content supposedly for the game but keep it running. Not sure if they changed their minds on not putting out more content, though its likely they might not bother with expansion packs anymore.

Cant believe this great game is still alive. I used to play this hardcore.... I swear I heard, read it was shutting down though or was that just the Playstation console servers? anyways is there a source or anything that they are not shutting down anytime soon? I know games like FFXIV did say that even if only JP is the only subscribers it could keep the game afloat. So I guess a older game that doesnt need much resources could very well stay up.
Indeed @Br3akingDawn it is NOT shutting down for PC.

Shut down was for PS and Xbox.

Producer Matsui retires.  But development will continue.

    Development keeps getting better!!!!

Announcing the Next Version Update! (04/22/2016)

The next version update is scheduled for early May!

Ambuscade is getting a facelift with new enemies and rewards, and new high-end combat aimed at the most determined of adventurers awaits those waiting to sling sword and spell.

On top of the new battle content, players will be able to enjoy several quality of life additions, including an NPC to store the crystals that we know are spilling out of your pockets!

They never said it was shutting down for PC. 360 and PS3 yes, and it has. Game is still great.

Game seems might last forever or as long as they get at least 100k subs. That is 1.5+ mill a month, not Blizzard like money but still nothing to shake a fist at.

I do digress however to state that the game WAS...keyword WAS a great game up until level 75.

1-75 was LFG ..good times.NOW the game is LFL or LFNM.Looking for LOOT,item level weapons and that is a really bad game design.

Still even with the terrible change in direction, they have added sooooooo much to this game it is scary.Aside from the two long standing flaws ....water zones and better housing, this game has far more gaming ideas than any game on the market. It is like 5 games worth of content rolled up into one,so much content that 90% of it gets ignored because all people care about are those Ilevel weapons and armor. and the NEED for them.
