Playing wow to lvl 20 is probably the worse mmorpg you can choose for that.  Almost anything else would be better.

3:15 am pst and all servers except 2 are low pop, other 2 are medium. The game is in a pretty bad state if Stormrage server is below high

They raised the cap on servers, so they all appear lower than they were before.

The Low Level content in WoW is actually really, really good.  The Vanilla Zones have a nice story and flow to them.

The issue isn't the quality of the content or whether or not it's fun, it's the fact that no one else really plays that content anymore.  People are chain running dungeons with Heirlooms.  The OP is *way* too late to do this.  He should have done this like 6-8 years ago.

Back when I leveled up in WoW for the first time in BC, those levels were packed with newer players (mid-2008 timeframe) and you could get people in the quest zones to do instances like SFK with you, etc.  If you needed help with a quest you could team up with other people.  There were people everywhere all the way up through to max level.

That's all gone now, because the game is old and even those still playing would probably buy a Character Boost or PL themselves with full Heirloom Gear in dungeons than level up "yet another alt" from scratch.

I wouldn't be averse to Blizzard selling level 60 Character Boosts for $15 in the game shop, to just allow most "new[er]" players to skip those levels and avoid the issues that can arise from the empty early-game content and the fact that dungeon queues are often unfavorable to "true newbs."

I would notgive WOW the time of day when compared to FFXI.FFXI just does a LOT more and combat is a lot more fun ,at least to me as there is more depth to the entire class/combat system.
Wow is  nothing more than a linear questing game,if you find that fun, then all the power to you,i do not ,i like freedom in my game play.
As to those other games mentioned by the OP,i would not spend a single minute in them, knowing what i do now about them, but yes at one time we all hoped or thought Tabula Rasa would turn out good.

I have all but given up hoping for a MMO that deserves my money and time,i see nothing very good only small tid bits of what could be.I won't give up waiting, something will come along eventually, for now i'll play the many good single player games and try not to waste any money on all the crappy MMO's.

The low level content isn't shit. YOu barely get to do anything at lvl 20. There's a handful of dungeons you're able to do, and you have if you're lucky 3 abilities you can use. And none of them are even your main core abilities for your class/spec. You don't get those until 60+ for most classes.

Playing to lvl 20 in WoW to see if its any good/would be enjoyable is a complete waste of time. It is not at all indicative on the fun factor of WoW and definitely not indicative of how the gameplay(most specially combat) will be.

True with today's WoW, not true with Vanilla.

If something is a complete waste of time, its speaks to a flaw with the product. If it is not fun and entertaining to play WoW up to level 20, well... thats just bad.

It was true even in vanilla. Seriously people need to stop talking about Vanilla when they clearly A. don't remember it or B. didn't play it. The game wasn't indicative of shit until you were lvl 40~ and got your first major talent ability. That shit was a game changer for all classes. For Shadow priests, it was Shadowform for instance.

I have to agree with Sephiroso here.

In Vanilla WoW,  you did not really receive much variety in term of actually useful spells and abilities ´tll you crossed the lv35 treshold and for some classes/specs it could be as late as lv 45.

Leveling a Warrior in early vanilla , for instance, was an exercice in patience and missed heroic strikes.

    Warrior pre lv 30 rotation:

Auto Attack -Auto Attack - Auto Attack- Auto Attack- Battle Shout- Auto Attack-Auto Attack - Heroic Strike (miss) (pop a potion)  auto attack, auto attack , auto attack- Heroic Strike...

Sure, you had rend, thunderclap, sunder armor and hamstring but for the most part they were useless (especially rend and thunderclap)

To a much lesser extent with Vanilla. There is more to the equation than just the numbers of skills you can use. You had to actually use a bit of caution while playing Vanilla or you would easily find yourself dead. A bad pull meant death and that was true whether you were level 5 or level 60.

One of my proudest moments in the Vanilla was successfully soloing that escort quest up in that cave in Redridge with my warrior. It took a lot of patience and timing to pull it off.

The BIG problem with the current game is the ease of Gameplay, and I'm not talking about raiding.

    IMHO

Vanilla WoW was designed to bring veteran players in from other MMORPG's. Easy faceroll leveling would have killed the game at that time.

Compared to other early mmos like Lineage, Lineage 2 or AC, Vanilla WoW was easy faceroll leveling. Leveling from 49 - 50 in Lineage could take a couple of months easy and longer if you died at all.
It wasn't really a bad thing, either.  World of Warcraft was built with the intent being players would potentially roll a new character to play through the game again, where as a lot of other classic MMOs assumed the player would play the one character and only that character.

    Never experienced Lineage ;)

But I'm not thinking about time to level or death penalties. My thoughts are about the challenge of the leveling content. I'm not trying to claim it was harder than other games of the time. I'm saying its challenge was appealing enough to players who were no strangers to the genre.

If it was 2004 and WoW just released, with the leveling game as it is now, would the game have been as successful?

Personally, I don't believe it would have been.

Leveling in WoW is garbage anyway. Doesn't matter if you level to 20 or 100, it's still the same garbage of a grind. There aren't many worse MMOs when it comes down to questing and story telling. Hell the majority of them are garbage in this aspect anyway. Either way if you're not playing WoW for the dungeons/raids, you're doing it wrong. For other aspects there are other better MMOs.

Still wonder why he needed a trial... when anyone can create an account and play to 20 for free, anytime, on as many characters as he wants. You can also do that on an old account.
The OP is definitely not the smartest of his pack...

    Lol

I already had an account and would have to add the Starter Edition, again wasnt planning on playing but did this for the promotion to get Lady Liadrin for Hearthstone.

The Starter Edition also has alot of restrictions not found in the 7-day trial I was given.
    • Expansion content (quests, zones, etc)
    • Characters above level 20
    • Pet Battles
    • Other chat channels and whispers to non-friends
    • All guild-related functions
    • Party formation
So idk man, I guess thats enough reason for me to not make a starter edition account, like if Im going to play the game I mid as well be able to pet-battle since that wasnt in Vanilla and at least its different.

In fact Pet Battles were a totally unnecessary edition to the game - but actually provided a challenge and had some cool questlines, so they were my favorite part of the experience, while the core game was absolute water trash - content wise.

So yeah, im glad I did the 7-day trial for sure.
