Lately I've been finding it really hard to find an MMO that keeps me wanting to play it. Most MMOs seem pretty stale and vague and mostly all about the grind and getting the oh so uber gear and becoming more epic or whatever.. Honestly I grow tired of this crap and I've played so many games over the past decade or so its not even fun anymore. Whats worse is I even have some of them installed on my PC and just can't be bothered to play them half the time. Perhaps its a sign? should I just throw in the towel and be done with MMOs? Even the most recent MMOs don't grasp my interest and I don't want to sound like I'm just joining the paddy wagon here but seriously I want something new and fresh and all we seem to get is the same old stale cooky from the same old cut, sure it may look tastier but deep down its not, infact its just icky and leaves a bitter taste x.x

The new kid on the block, promising something different is Soulbound Studios, creating their 'Chronicles of Elyria'. I'm mentioning this one at every opportunity because I'm really excited for it and want to see it succeed. It's not expected to be released till 2017 but it hits kickstarter on 3rd May. May be worth a look if you're after something completely different. http://chroniclesofelyria.com/
And for some time now, i simply can not find a title to play, i mean i did, but those games either get ruined by developer or publisher -.-
Aion was overrun by bots, so much ,that in one zone you can count hundreds of bots easily.
Forsaken world went p2w full retard style, as did many others.
Archeage is p2w, but even when i overlook that ,there arent any freaking populated servers to play in .....
Went hyped over B&S ,played it for one day and got sick of how incredibly plain and empty the game feels.
as they say All blade no soul.
Whatever the fck is going on with the mmorpg scene its not pretty.
At least ,thank god i have Path of Exile and Guild Wars 2 to play which are ok ,but still playing them for over a year gets stale..
It was obvious that people were quite happy to pay for it, due to the amount of beta keys that were being bought and sold on eBay way before developers started monetizing that aspect, lol
"Must have it now..."
"Must be the first..."
Yeah, greed brought us paid early access. But it was player greed....
See, it's you.
Unfortunately I am inclined to concur with this comment, we kinda bought this upon ourselves! Heck even I've been guilty of purchasing early access just because I couldn't wait for it to come out, most of the time I regret that choice but the choice was mine to make and we all know that.
Nope, it is still them. There does not need to be a game for everyone.
Thats how i feel as well, some days i just wonder under what rock are good online game developer teams.
Last time when i played something good was Archeage ,but as this dude described it in his comment:
"Archeage Alpha was prolly the best mmorpg i have played, but than it got released."
Freaking money grabbing publishers -.- making games die in months time since like 6-7 years ago.
Think there is hope in old games that didnt turn p2w and still have at least somewhat alive servers, and private servers, at least untill something smart gets released in a good way.
To the OP: don't lose hope. Maybe just stop trying to force it. Check out Worlds Adrift. Seems like a fresh take on online RPGs. Endless exploration with motives to document instead of destroy (can still kill).
It is not the mmo's. Its the absence of the glory days, the moments with your guild / friends you had your most fun. Your stuck in the rut of trying to find it again. At least that was my issue till I found my small group of friends. We rent a rack server and host many games and all play together. ( rust, ark, 7 days and many others )
It's not just the game that makes the game, but the community that helps pull and hold you in. You can play the worst game out there, but if you have a good tight group of friends it makes the entire thing worth it.
Hope any of this helps the struggling seekers
Funny coincidence, just saw this in Steam, at first I was intrigued but after taking a look at it I was kinda "meh.." about it to be honest.
Hell, i have even bought into a beta with them, not with the mindset to get a headstart, but to help "make the game" so to speak. That is what beta is for after all.
So that is my suggestion, either find another hobby or look for different kind of communities than what you are used to. Can be the same game, but two completely different experiences.
There's a ton of great single player RPG's that are worth another play through and I've been having a lot of fun in World of Warships.
I'm still an MMO player at heart, I'm just not playing one right now.
I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.
