I find it hard to believe they had 10 million subscribers in 2014. And 2 years later they are somewhere around 5 million. Perhaps that 10 mil was because of the expansion year.
yah think? There were around 6.5 mill when WoD dropped and they went up...then went down.
It doesn't matter it jumps back on New expansion than drops.... People are not willing to hold subscription for long...anymore I never did, for example I used to buy all expansion and play for 2 3 months this year will pass I think tired of it. and same my friends we never kept out sub. for long, play see content see ya in a year .
And personally don't care if wow will die out there will be even less quality mmos ....every year we are infested with cheap Asian mmos that barely last 1 year
No offense but the sooner this game dies the sooner we can start moving into bigger and better games .
What has stopped "bigger and better games" from happening before now? Crappy launches, lack of innovation and rushed production is what's wrong with today's MMO's...not WoW.
Rushed Production and crappy launches are the trademark of MMOs so it is nothing new and kinda expected., WoW included. What stopped bigger and better games to come out it's mainly the lack of innovation. And guess who's fault it is?
WoW success was so huge everyone and their dog wanted to replicate its success. Unfortunately that somehow translated into replicate WoW, which is why the Industry is in such a bad shape (in terms of quality and variety).
over 5 million subs lol wow that's a lot of toons playing. I don't see the issue tbh
Really old thread... we don't know the numbers from the last 2 quarters so theres a large chance its lower then this number though we can only speculate. Given the trend I'd guess its probably under 5 mill, possibly even threatening to go below 4.

Yep old thread.
We know that for 2015 Q4 WoW's revenue was down 15% - so on a pro-rata basis that would put subs at c. 4.8M at the end of 2015.
For 2016 Q1 we have no specific data - AB have stopped reporting $$ revenue for WoW as well. What we do know is that Blizzard's revenue has fallen - compared to both 2015 Q4 and twelve months ago (2015 Q1).
Twelve months ago WoW accounted for 77% of Blizzard's income. If this was the case in 2016 Q1 then a pro-rata estimate would be no change; WoW still at c. 4.8M.
In Q4 2015 however WoW was only responsible for 41% of Blizzard's revenue - reflecting the growth of Hearthstone & Heroes of the Storm presumably. (There have been no new Starcraft or Diablo titles since 2014.)
And if you base an estimate on 41.6% then WoW's revenue for the quarter would be down to c. $122M suggestig about 3.05M subs.
Health warning: this is all pro-rata; currency exchange and lots of other good financial stuff; th eimpact of tokens etc. will impact it.
However given that AB are reporting that Hearthstone and HotS are growing and WoW's revenue declined every quarter last year 77% is almost certainly high a %number to use. Could subs have fallen to just over 3M though? We don't know but Blizzard's revenue has certainly declined despite Hearthstone and Heroes.
Ive heard somewhere no matter how successful you are, if you put a bad product out there, your customers will feel betrayed. Nothing ever last forever. Celebrate the fact this franchise has beaten a lot of odds and lets move on

Our problem is not enough games have ever survived a decade. Anecdotal evidence from mmogcharts and a handful of sources is all we've got.

Players keep buying the same formula. And they cry "why does the formula exist?11!!"

Theres also the fact they cancelled their next planned MMO (Titan), because...well, no one was interested in it.
