What type of Star Wars games do you prefer?

Seems star wars games are focusing on either action or story nowadays.  I think we all agree a good mixture of both would be acceptable but if you are going to choose one at the expense of another.  Which type would you rather play?
Are you onto something or just on something?

    Really I prefer both.

I would like to see EA do something more akin to DA3 for a single player Star Wars game with lots of story and the actiony/tactical combat.  Though I would like to see the combat actually a little more on the tactical side like in DA:O.  Or....I would like to see them take the Battlefront concept to another level and basically make a Planetside clone where you have massive mixed arms FPS game with a persistent world and territory control along with all of the vehicles to boot.  Even do three factions like the usual Imps, Rebs, and maybe Black Sun or some type of Hutt Cartel.  THAT would be my dream game.

I prefer a good star wars game over a mediocre mess.

As others have said, they aren't mutually exclusive and unless you are building a pure sandbox, any star wars game is going to have both action and story.

Having said that, I'm not a fan of stories in games. Computer games, in my opinion, are a terrible medium for telling stories. Strongly scripted stories always come at the expense of player freedom to the point that the best presented stories result in interactive movies. It may be something others like but personally, I absolutely abhor. It feels like a complete waste of money to make an interactive movie when you could just make an actual movie (which would be better visually and story-wise) or an actual game (which would be better interactively and for longevity).

So, I will always vote action over story. I'll vote for pretty much anything over story in my computer games. The best stories in computer games are the ones with minimal player interruptions where the content is essentially player actions.

My favourite SW game for story? Jedi Knight II. There were minimal cutscenes, minimal voice overs, quest text etc. However, the levels and the gameplay told the story. I don't need some shitty cutscene of me peering round a corner to try to build up the tension - the gameplay does it for me.

In contrast, I felt that Bioware's KOTOR games were some of the worst SW games out there. There was so much story shoved down your throat at every turn that I never really felt that I was advancing, never felt like I was in control. I'd keep waiting for the game to open up so that I could go off, explore, level my character, develop into a proper jedi, get to know my companions.....but no, just shoved down meaningless linear stories until, all of a sudden, game completed.
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman

Not saying you are wrong but I am the exact opposite of you.  I prefer to play out a story and read the lore.  If I want an action game I will go play a ARPG.

I think KOTOR was one of the best single player games based on the star wars IP.

    Everyone differs in their opinion.

Yes KOTOR best star wars game ever made.  I even liked KOTOR2 just didn't prefer the ending.  I mean look KOTOR was such a great game they made a mmo out of it.

I did make it clear in the OP that everyone obviously wants both.  But seems there's a ton of them who sacrifice one for the other  Battlefront, xwing fighter, dark forces, republic commando...  All of these completely ignored story for the sake of action.

It would have been much easier to vote on genres. As most Star wars games feature both story as well as action. I prefer RPG's and RTS both have offered some great Star Wars games. Action/adventure has as well to a lesser extent.

    One that's never been made.

I want to play a Shadow of Mordor style Star Wars game with a "build your own" Jedi system that allows the player to choose what kind and how many light sabers they want to use, what color they are and the sex/age of their character.

Throw in the nemesis system with a bunch of badass Sith lords to hunt down, and I'll be in goddamn heaven for a year.

A Batman style combat system where the light sabers are actually blocking, riposting, deflecting... essentially an actual sword fight has me needing to change my underwear.

I didn't bother clicking on this thread for a while because I was almost certain it would be by a SWG vet trying to convince me that a crafting based Star Wars game was what I really wanted.
