So for everyone who is confused, Aventurine has sold the rights to Darkfall Online to 2 companies, who are both setting out to create 2 similar, but different games.

Big Picture Games has set out to create this iteration; Darkfall: Rise of Agon.

For those of you that don't know Darkfall Online was the single greatest masterpiece/disaster ever to be created by greeks.

The base game had a lot of flaws, and a lot of problems with: hackers, scripting, macroing, bugs, and horrible grinding. Those of us that saw Darkfall Online to the end came to see some of these dealt with, while a lot of problems remained.

Throughout the years many of us would beg, would plead, and would sometimes get downright nasty with Aventurine to fix many of the flaws in the game, because we all knew what the game had to offer. A hardcore MMO experience, complete with: a combat system like no other, an awesome player city/siege system, naval combat, and last but not least, full loot (It works amazingly).

But alas, Aventurine just constantly dodged answers/directed our attentions elsewhere when confronted, similar to how Donald Trump answers his campaign questions. Eventually Aventurine just shut the game down after years of doing absolutely nothing content wise, balance wise, bug wise, macro wise, and revealed their awful sequel Darkfall: Unholy Wars. Then that flopped, which lead us to our current situation.

Big Picture Games is a company many of us Darkfallers can get behind. They promise change to many of the problems Darkfall has faced over the years. The game is only in Alpha stage, but already they have accomplished what Aventurine could not, fixing 2 EXTREMELY SIMPLE, but extremely important issues. Those being the ability to autosprint and hotbar/skill management. (YES AVENTURINE WAS THIS BAD, THEY COULDN'T EVEN FIX THESE ISSUES.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1CiEcPk5wE

This company is still learning the already developed (and poorly maintained) code. Already they are preparing fixes to issues the playerbase was told was not possible by Aventurine.

Along with this fix, Big Picture Games plans on improving the New Player Experience drastically (Something I'm sure many of you noobies absolutely found appalling, I know I did), Balancing out grind and power gap by decreasing the amount of time it takes to become PVP viable, balancing spells, adding in new content, and a lot more.

This company, and it's Big Picture (see what i did thar?) is something I, and many other Darkfallers throughout the years can, and should get behind.

The Darkfall community hopes you will come and check out the launch of this game, and fall in love with it, like so many of us have.

Bunnyhopping, having every key on my keyboard do something, and no safe zones make this game funner than Unholy Wars so hopefully they leave that part of it alone.

Its not like Hillary Clinton answered any questions. In fact she held less press events than Trump.

As a Darkfall fan, this is good news.
While I hope Rise of Agon will be a success, I believe Big Picture doesn't really have clear the Big Picture of what really was wrong with Darkfall (Pun intended).
All you are saying in your OP is true, DF had many issues, and I am happy they are fixing some of them, but the biggest issue with DF was a badly designed Alignment systems which pushed away the more casual PvPers, which in my view were the big majority of the population.
This is basically Darkfall fixed, but that's not gonna be enough for me to go back to Agon.

I am more interested in the other version of Darkfall, New Dawn (DND), the developers are not just trying to fix the bugs and exploits of the game but they are trying to make the game more fun and enjoyable for everyone not just just for the hardcore crowd, with a similar Alignment system that that closely resemble EvE.
So good luck to ROA, but my first choice for a new adventure in Agon will be DND.

I dont understand what people are talking about i have just played 2 days Rise of Agon and find out is totally blue  please don't kill me mentality ugh..even dwarf came into Mahirim town as if he is family? Chat was policed by some GM as if where children threaten with ban hammer.

There was no fighting at all.

This is far from hardcore PvP its now very safe for casuals and all who stay blue and thats 99%.

I'm not sure(forget:P) if people with level 70 weapons full gear where top level players which where blue dwarf with mahirim in mahirim town wtf?

I'll bet handful live in chaos towns.

Darkfall RoA=Fairy tail land with elfs dwarfs humans and licking wolfs human legs(pissing agains maybe:P) Orks that loves you and Alfar looking in love with everybody, hippies of new Darkfall age now it seems New Dawn even worse:(

Sad i was really looking forward to authentic Darkfall as it was in the first year but it's not.

These new versions will fail also me thinks.

Hope to build full AMD system RYZEN/VEGA/AM4!!!

To the best of my knowledge DND will be race vs race. With ROA on the other hand, we are modeling our faction and alignment system more closely to UO and Eve Online. Everyone starts out blue to all and can go anywhere. We will be implementing an opt-in faction system where if players choose to they can partake in meaningful warfare and be KOS to their enemy factions. We believe that keeping race vs race is too restricting and want more player freedom. Players should be able to choose which side they fight for, after all this is a sandbox.

We will also be improving our flagging system. One major flaw when a red is trying to redeem themselves and become good again is being attacked by blues and in order to defend themselves they end up taking an alignment hit. With the new system players will be able to defend themselves properly.

More information on the above and more will be released soon on our forums, thanks for reading!

You said player choosing their sides. Does that mean pvp is ultimately optional? If so, I might have to give this a look.

The fact that the community supports a glitch like bunny hopping has turned me off from this game. It makes the game have a higher skill cap they say. Get Gud they say. Not only does it look stupid, it is a bug lol. They refuse to fix because the die hards like using it.

Have to agree..  The same kind of combat glitches are supported in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, and all the "l337" players thought it was an amazing asset to the game.

Players would literally crouch and do an instant 180 turn to face AWAY from their opponent because their backswing on the overhead strike would do just as much damage this way as a normal stab would.  It looked stupid, it was stupid, but the "hardcore" players all insisted it was a great feature.

The game only averages 1,000-2,000 concurrent users a month.  Think it's safe to say that "feature" isn't doing much to help the game's popularity.  It just makes the developers look like slaves to their most hardcore population.

I wish you all the best, but I still have to find an Alignment system that works, apart for EvE.
Though even in EvE players learned how to exploit the Alignment system resulting in an increase in player ganking in High-Sec, and most people are not happy about it.
For that reason, EvE has a low Newbie retention rate, but it has a solid core player base, so it is still doing ok. I am not sure how you are going to avoid new players quitting within a week or two in a brand new game with those same rules.

I played DF and DFUW, and I came to the conclusion that this game needs fixed Factions to work, yes it is more restrictive but most people can't cope with the Kill On Sight mentality that PvP games based on an Alignment System seems to offer.
In this type of games a Blue is never really a Blue, it could be a Red in disguise ready to attack you whenever you are most vulnerable.
That's the kind of PvP that most people despise, and the Alignment system provides those deceiving (coward?) players the right weapon to grief other players forcing them to quit.

By the way there is no reason why RvR should be so stiff as you describe it, for example Guilds  should be able to fight other Guilds belonging to the same Realm, they could even form Alliances with Guilds of other Realms (Mercenaries).
    Why not?

The Realm vs Realm System is there to guarantee a relatively safe space to the most vulnerable players, the ones who rarely join Guilds, who play casually, or the people who just don't feel like PvPing all the time (Yes you really need these people too).
Yet if you are an Hardcore PvP player you can still have fun, you can declare war on every other Guild in your Realm if you feel like, so you will be Red to most of the Server if that's what rocks your boat.
I think that's the best compromise for both Casual and Hardcore PvP Players.

The original game was not Greeks, they simply bought up a failed/unfinished game and saw an easy ticket in.
I am confused, sold the rights? How can you sell the rights to two companies?Someone has to own the copyright.

I would hardly call any of the iterations a "masterpiece".Instead they looked like severely unfinished games.

Potential ?? Yes but so does almost every game have potential for awhile.I played the original,i could see the intrigue but it was not even close to a complete game, just an automated world you could pvp in with VERY few assets.

In the grand scheme of things,DF1 was a 1/10,just barely off the ground, needed tons more work to be good or of quality. So what is this new team or group of teams going to do,turn it into a 2/10,maybe a 3/10?
I just do not believe the game can be improved,it would be like trying to improve Eve online, you can't,it needs a new engine and way more work and effort, assets, content,it would be like building a game from scratch.

Creating a "realm v realm" or as you were referring to DND earlier, "race vs race" without alignment like you suggest is not possible unless you remove friendly fire completely and also the ability to kill and loot your "alliance". As long as any of those are even remotely possible then you need an alignment system to keep people in check or the ganking and griefing will never end. Our goal is to make PKing a choice that is only made by those who accept the consequences and can live without the perks of staying blue. I can't get into too much detail just yet, though we'll be announcing more soon :)

First mistake was not implementing what they say they would for years on Forumfall.

Secondly to early released and pre-order deal.

Third Beta was terrible they first tested it with bots then only few in end of 2008 could enter beta then in 2009 jan-feb some more. Promised 15k players that server could join was never stress tested and period it was tested with decent amount of players was max 3000+ for very short period 3 weeks wtf.

Then the god awefull launch where not only stupid payment system(game was made and suited in europe how stupid was aventurine?) for most European's was terrible only with credit card which most European's don't have also to get into the game and actually playing took long while, launch was terible.

Fourth because of terrible testing for bugs or exploits and cheating from day one several clans cheating the living daylights out of this game getting an enormous advantage(TheMercs as example).

Fifth harvesting was tedious the least click constantly no auto. Sudden implementations of Starwars towers terrible. Because of huge influx of ex WoW players local banking was problem. And dumb down of game started.

6th Reviews made by non PvPers who played carebear WoW was devastating for Darkfall specially the idiot from EUROGAMER which leaded to awesome in game DECLARE WAR to his clan/person. This was one of the biggest downfall for Darkfall a reviewer that hated PvP loved WoW themepark  and gave Darkfall after 20min in game game play 2 out 10 RATING wtf? Oh and the hate for Darkfall before Beta and launch specially here on mmorpg.com was enormous so many haters/vaporware topics endless tsunami of trash talk about Darkfall was so negative for the game overall.

7th Then the whining starts by US players who want there own server which resulted in a already small community in splitting up, one BIGGEST MISTAKES.
Macroing 24 hours a day AFK swimming BLOODWALLING to name a few was killing this game.

8th Tasos which was terrible speaker for Aventurine,

So many mistakes the developers where noobs concerning the release of this game, which is why it failed.

Years before released for many years on forumfall they said it was for small nich hardcore PVP fans we all thought around 5k players. Then around 2005-6 suddenly it changes(bloody Tasos i'll bet) from 20k registered it went up to 80k and in 2008 up to 300k+ registered i'll bet because of this DOLLARS SIGNS IN TASOS EYES AND DEVELOPERS they rush to release big mistake they made. Released Darkfall was rushed unfinished full of bugs mmo and result many exploits/cheating possible(client side lol).

Longer development addressing bugs exploits better stress testing game with way more then 3k players not split up server at least for first 2 years. Don't give in on casuals(i know most games rely on them but come one how many hardcore PvP games have we).

Then Darkfall 1 would still be here.

Now DFO gone then DFO:UW gone and we have abominations called New Dawn and Rise of Agon which also will fail with there stupid blue alignment system( a dwarf elf or human for example can as blue player just walk in mahirim/ork or alfar town WTF?(which is carebear).

My predictions Rise of Agon/New Dawn max players 200-500 if there lucky lol.

    Darkfall GAME OVER.

I hope they find a way to make group PvE more accessible and less of a secret society of sorts.

When I did play, I wanted to find other players interested in challenging some of the dungeons, and that was very difficult to do, because all PvE was done Guild Only in this hostile community. So there was no Public PvE.

that left the game as just Ganking and Grinding. Half the game potential gone right there.

The problem is that they sold the rights to 2 companies at the same time.  It's a niche game which I don't think can afford to split its population.  Another potential problem is that they will try to beat each other out the gate and enter with a lot of bugs and issues.  Would have been better for the community for 1 license to have been sold, however probably better for them that they sold 2.
