The game was amazing for me I played it non stop untill now, he is right about the rng.. RNG is not bad but in this game very demotivating.. you farm for HOURS and HOURS to get cash for a upgrade and you have 50pct chance your items will break and you actually end up with less money you had before farming.
The game has loads of cool features but if you want to feel like getting maximum profit and time spend.. which I am like than a lot of the time while playing ur just doing repetative chores, some people can deal better with that, no sieges really sucks.. but it wont bring me back to the game anyways I would be to far behind once its there.
The video guy lost me when he said it's the greatest mmo since WoW. Couldn't take anything else seriously after that.
What would you view as the best MMORPG since WOW?
I liked FFXI more than wow, well before the downfall after abyssea landed. Only reason FFXI didn't do well against WoW was because SE was cheap on advertisement vs Blizzard. Who isn't gonna wanna play a game that Chuck Norris is playing?!?!
BINGO !!
Blizzard has always been way more popular and known than Square Enix. Square did almost no advertising over here and Blizzard does tons.Geesh i think it wasn't until late into FFXIV did we finally see the noticeable Square advertising at mmorpg.
Blizzard also has a very large blind following and caters to lots of hand holding so noobs have an easy way in.FFXI for example was not noob friendly and had zero hand holding, you had to be a serious player really liking the genre "for the genre' and not some fly by night online band wagon jumper.
Make no mistake Square Enix did change over time and became as bad or near as bad as Blizzard.None the less,i no longer for awhile now play FFXI yet wanting a new game badly,i found NOTHING in BDO that warranted my time and money.
I have a massive ton of gaming hours under my belt,i can tell bad from good in very short order,i saw how bad BDO was from the very first day,it will simply take others longer.

His reasons for quitting are the same as my friends that tried it. They all have real life things to deal with. This game needs you to be online almost 24/7 to really get anything done. Kind of like Eve Online.
The video is spot on. Underneath the petty exterior is a very, very ugly game design. The time required to maintain an even remotely competitive character for pvp is absolutely insane which means the game will be dead in a few months.
Fair question If I am comparing "best" mmo's with WoW, then they'll be similar in nature.
Let me say that we are talking games at their height. WoW is still going of course, but I would rate it differently now than several years ago. But the OP's "since WoW" directs us to the past, not the present.
So games at their height: - when both the game and the relevant developer showed creativity and love for what they where doing. Not in any particular order, just "since WoW" .
FFXIV Rift Aion SWTOR
I'll say again, these are judged when the games where at their peak - although I'd quickly add that FFXIV is still there.
Fair enough... I just think your original comment was a bit harsh. As it's a matter of personal preference in the end. Personally I'd view the best since to be the one that attempted to elevate itself from the status quo. BD would fit that bill for me.

My first experience with an MMO came in the late 90's. My first game took over my life.....endless hours....I was hooked. Back then people were all new to the genre. Over time they figured out strategies to be the "BEST". Then came the griefers......the botters.......the hackers. People caught on to the fact that some people's competitive nature made them strive to be the highest level or the richest in the games they played. Then the era of Gold Sellers came about. It has all culminated into the mess we see today. Everyone races to get to the max level to try to be the most impressive......to stand out. No one gives a shit about the journey. I say this as someone who bought into the same garbage. I have almost reached the end of ever wanting to play these types of games ever again. The race for the prize has bred a movement of elitist jackasses who make the games a chore for the regular player. Then there are the antisocial asshats who get sick enjoyment out of doing anything to disrupt other players' playtime......just because they can. With this game I have taken the stance that I will take my time and see everything and do everything I can. So far, i have been having a good time. Am I geared out the ass?......Can I kick the shit out of anyone around me?.......Do I care?......NO. I am having fun doing whatever I want to without caring about whether I have the best armor or how well I will do in pvp. The one thing I find interesting about this game is the sheer number of choices it gives you to do what you want....if you take the time to do them and try to enjoy them.

I kinda think this game would be almost perfect with
No gender locks Skill based system (player can play whatever skill they want) Reduced reliance on armor stats (again back to the skill character stat system) Cosmetic only skins Reduction in convenience items
All this makes it pretty much not this game xD I guess I kind of described Albion.

EVE Online has very little RNG, especially compared to this game. And its a sandbox. EVE isn't even time consuming, since you can train skills offline, when mining or whatever activity you are doing in EVE
Most time consuming thing about EVE is probably alliance battles/wars. But I can hop on, do some PvP either solo, or with my corp, and be done in less than an hour and have accomplished a lot. Granted, can do same in BDO...so...heh. But actually, mining in EVE is probably most time consuming thing in the entire game, outside the wars.
But when I played EVE (which I did for a long time), I'm pretty sure there was very little RNG involved. If there was, it was hardly noticeable.
So, for your number 2 point...EVE doesn't require that much time (same as any other MMORPG really), doesn't require grind at all, but you DO need to invest time in it. And there definitely isn't RNG and if there is, its really minor that I never noticed.
So no, not every sandbox needs grinding or RNG. But most MMORPGs do require time.

You lost me at FFXIV, the others you mentioned just made me laugh. You see, this is why you don't trash other people's opinions. The guy said he thought it was the best MMO since WoW, that is his opinion. You discredited his entire video based on that opinion because you think *cough trying not to laugh* FFXIV is the best MMO since WoW. It is okay for you to have that as your opinion, but watch how you treat others before showing your own laughable content.
That vid made me laugh. Typical rush to cap/gear hardcore grinder gets burnt out then realizes how much money he's spent in the pointless rush. It's kiddie stuff, typical WOW generation fail.
Only serious point he had was the RNG one. Whilst I do agree RNG is used as a cheap replacement for content in too many places in BDO, it's also different, more extreme in results than most RNG players are used too I think. It takes a little while to get used to that difference and that results in big losses, which causes frustration, which causes the whining about RNG. I think it will settle down as players learn how to 'play' the RNG. Maybe .
No surprise here, he wants to play other games; but his complaints echo a lot of what others say here and on other forums, including the official forums. Is the game doomed for those who strive to hit max OP gear and level? Is this a better game if you can force yourself to play it casually?
a wow fan. obviously he quits to play his beloved Wow again.. when do people get it in their head? Wow isnt good and never really was. its decent for 1-2months after that its boring as hell no new dungeons or raids. When do people discover that Black desert, ffxiv and so on has so much more to offer then that crap to wow?.
Wow is so casual. Mythic dungeons and raids are a joke. and dont give me the crap that oh have u done mythic. No i have not cause i didn't have time nor did i want to. why? well because i saw it getting very similer in terms of tacs and difficualty
Every once in a while I come back to this site and see posts like this and just kinda shake my head. REALLY? You're all like a bunch of old ladies, sitting around at bridge night, wringing your hands and talking about terrible everything is.
I've played so many damn mmos it's embarassing, right back to freaking text MUDs and the whole lot. BDO is completely amazing, and if you're not giving it a chance as an MMO gamer, I think you're missing out. It's beautiful, immersive, has great combat, and just overall a lot of complex and interesting systems which will grab into you in that good old crack cocaine addictive way that only an MMO can.
Yes, it has some downsides. I think personally that the endgame is quite interesting, even from a PvE perspective. I see some others state that the so called "grind" is a turnoff, but as always, one man's grind is another man's "always something to do". I don't personally find it grindy, I find that it has so many things to do, that I often have to make a list of priorities for the day. So much variety, that I need to decide what I will and will not do in the day, and that's pretty interesting.
I keep wanting to take a stab at this, but it's becoming very difficult to pull the trigger. BETA was fun, but I can see the RNG driving me absolutely mad. This is particularly bad since this is a PvP based MMO. Oh well, what's next....? Oh yea, nothing for a long time.

I also was worried about the RNG aspect of it. I played on the Korean servers for a while, leveling a few characters up to 52-55 and then dropped it.
Playing again on the NA/EU servers, I'm really, really hooked. The RNG - I would say that the whole system just takes some getting used to. On the upside, you can pretty well work towards any single goal at your own pace. Almost everything is either attainable through at least two routes.
Let's say for example, Witch's Earrings, which are probably the most popular dps earring in the game at the moment. It's a real RNG grind to go and try and get them from a mob drop. Sometimes I'm just not in the mood for that, so there are instead a ton of ways to either actively or passively make money - horse training, farming, mining, cooking, crafting, whatever. Eventually, if I don't get that drop, I can just buy one from the market.
That goes for almost everything. If you don't want to be at the mercy of the armor-upgrading RNG gods, you can do the gameplay that you enjoy (making you money) and buy the pieces one by one from the market. If you don't want to wait for that rare belt to drop, again, do the gameplay you enjoy, and eventually you can avoid the RNG and buy it. There are practically no character bound armor pieces, so everything is purchasable. This was something that I didn't really understand before I played for a while.
