It’s easy to predict whether Duncan Jones’s take on the world-conquering online role-playing game World Of Warcraft is
for you. If you take delight in names like "Orgrim Doomhammer" and have
a high tolerance for randomly scattered apostrophes and superfluous
"h"’s, it could be your film of the summer. If not, you should avoid it at all costs.
The World of Warcraft online game apparently had 12 million players at
its peak, and every single one of them is going to need to turn up to
see this – with their extended families – if it’s ever going to get past
its first instalment. It’s an expensive, high-fantasy epic reminiscent
of The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.
And there’s much to admire in its ambition, its design, even its
politics. But there’s also a whiff of the John Carter about it. Like the 2012 Martian flop,
it’s a complex, jargon-heavy, deadly earnest battle epic, short on star
power and with more than a touch of 1970s fantasy art about it. Its
greatest battle could be against widespread indifference.
Critics are a bunch of trolls. I loved the John Carter movie. I still think this can spin either way it will all depend on the gaming world and how big it is. Because its a niche movie and gamers will probably love it. I don't mean blind love we all admit that D&D was a bad movie and the doom movie was horrid as well. Just some of these titles people don't like and only gamers will want to watch.
I love that there are serious reviews of this movie. It's a gd Warcraft movie why are real reviewers even bothering? Lol. This movie is pure fan service, and while it's obviously a huge opportunity to garner new interset/stoke old fires, I'm pretty sure that is understood.
I think that the problem with movie reviews is that there is an absence of context. It's like every reviewer treats every movie as though it's competing for an academy award, which is rarely the case.
In fact, in many cases, I use movie reviews in reverse. So if I'm looking up reviews for Adam Sandler movies, for instance, the lower the score, the better it will probably be. The Ridiculous 6, for instance, got a zero, but was the most-watched Netflix exclusive in history. I also enjoyed it quite a bit. Pixels is another. 17% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Similarly, if it's anything by Disney or Pixar, my rating scale goes from 80-100 because anything below that is the equivalent of zero. Finally, anything that's an independent art film has a scale from 95-100, meaning anything below 95 is, essentially, unwatchable.
For anyone that ever complains about game reviews, I tell them to go have a peek at movie reviews. It's quite possibly the worst ever!! I think that the main reason for that, as mentioned above, is context. You would never compare an Adam Sandler movie to an independent documentary. The intent is so much different. It would be like comparing a MOBA with Tetris.
I think that Rotten Tomatoes has the right idea in simply basing it on whether or not you enjoyed it, but the stuffy movie critics still seem to want to adhere to those higher standards where poop jokes and getting hit in the nuts is just less worthy than "...a gripping tale of a man who created an empire with an idea and some corrugated cardboard!" Please..... wake me when it's over.
Usually the critics and the audience opinions are far apart
Not really - usually they are very close - as in bad movies are disliked by both, and good movied are liked by both.
Lets check your theory right now - look at the current Rotten Tomato movie reviews:
Angry birds - Critics 42, Audience 59 - both disliked it - 17% apart Captain America Civl war - Critics 90%, Audience 91% - almost identical Neighbors 2 Sorrority Rising - Critics 62%, Audience 56% - again very cloes The nice guys - Critics 90%, Audience 84% - very close The Jungle book - Critics 95%, Audience 91% - very close Money Monster - Critics 54%, Audience 61% - 7% close The Darkness - Critics 5%, Audience 23% - both hated it, 17% difference Zootopia - Critics 98%, Audience 94% - 4% very close
So I'd say your theory is wrong - usually the critics and the audience AGREE, and rarely are they far apart as you claim
Oh nice you list a few movies that fit your thoughts. How about looking at the films up for Oscars, now those are all supposed to be good movies. All where critically rated, but at least half yet did quite poorly at the box office, including the winner. So much for your theory.

Yup, a good example would be pretty much any Adam Sandler movie. There is generally a minimum 30% difference between critic and viewer.

But I LOVE the John Carter movie!!!
Yea all those movies were good. So I'm not paying attention to anyone calling those movies garbage. They should be fired and replaced with someone who might actually be open minded about the topics.
The most important thing for me is if it is true to Warcraft lore; if it is not I will not even consider watching - Without giving away the plot, how bad is the lore deviation?
Next I would like to hear a reviewer who has played warcraft&wow, because I think a gereric movie reviewer will not sufficiently appreciate all aspects of a fantasy film.
Was anyone TRULY surprised though? Blizzard wasn't even directly involved in the making of the movie so of course it was going to be bad. I wont say that every movie based off of a game is destined to be bad. Heck, the new Assassin Creed movie looks better than the actual games (probably because most of them do the same thing over and over again). The overall warcraft movie didn't look like Blizzard's standard though from the beginning so it was almost too easy to predict the outcome.
I don't see how they could've butchered the lore any more than Metzen already has. If it were in written form, there'd be white-out, scratches, notes in the margins, and paragraphs of text copy / pasted over each other everywhere.
AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

Hmm I just looked up battlefield earth and I really had no clue it was that badly rated. I liked the movie enough to watch it several times and wished for a sequel. Still can't figure out why everyone hated it. Maybe the subliminal messages messed with people's minds in a way they couldn't handle it idk.
I mean come on.... Starship Troopers and Wing Commander movie had better ratings. Thats absurd.

That's not what Duncan Jones (director) said when he basically repeated what Sam Raimi (previous director) said after he and Blizzard parted ways - namely that Blizzard were in control. (Lots of reports of the interviews).
Movie reviewers. What can I say? Pretentious, uptight idiots would be a fair description I think. Movie reviewers are useless in my opinion. They always downplay action and fantasy films, the typical big, summer blockbusters. That's not to say that a lot of game to movie adaptations have not been terrible but I'm gonna have to wait on this one and see for myself.
These are the same people that said that Man of Steel was terrible movie and that Gal Gadot was good as Wonder Woman.
I'd rather watch the film and make my own mind up.
Still, a movie based on a game should tell you something... Other movies based on games:

See many good movies on this list? And most of the Uve Boll masterpieces isn't even on it... The thing they have in common is that they all suck, possibly excepted Wing commander.
Don't forget Judge Dredd. They made it twice. The second one was really for the fans as it had a lot of stuff in it that only people who read the books would know about.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests
But more to the point, those movies all went into debt , heavily.
They've already written off GB as never making it into the black , thankfully which means there won't be another with that cast.
And yes , you are allowed to think they are not funny , I know the PC Police likes to try and scream if you don't approve though.
