I agree. Valve is never going to finish it, and probably with good cause now. It's been so built up in the hearts and minds of so many, that regardless of how good/bad the game would be, it would be a disappointment for many.

I could see maybe them making a TF3 down the road, or some smallish game, but HL series is long dead.

They need to make a 3rd just to show everybody they are still one of the best. Spare no expense and do something with the Half Life franchise that will put all other shooters to shame.

Never forget that Steam is the house built thanks to the success of Counter Strike, which should thank it's success and entire existence on Half Life. Counter Strike will always be the greatest shooter of all time IMHO.

Also, I don't care that CS was created by a modder so keep that card stuffed deep in your pockets.

Valve keeps distracting themselves and setting back the launch of a next-gen engine with their effort to support a new platform and hardware.

They did dump out a small VR game, and that's sort of all we can reasonably expect from them for a while. Their games often are a form of experimentation on their own and comes with new business strategies, new tech launch, etc as a sort of showcase of what the platform can do. Why we got HL 2 in tandem with the Source engine and subsequent upgrades were tied to Left 4 Dead and Portal. And TF 2 has been a test bed for random ideas for a long time.

Then again we do have that rumor that Gaben is allergic to the number 3, so we may never see a HL3, L4D3, P3, TF3, etc.

Look around the 0:50 part. It is old but none the less true:

    Don't really care, tbh.

I couldn't finish Half-Life 2. It felt like a meaningless composition of action set pieces - like an engine demo.

I liked Half-Life 1 - but mostly the first hour or two. To me, System Shock was miles ahead of games like this, several years before.

I am not the biggest HL fan and enjoyed SS as well. Though A.I. in HL is better. Physics are obviously better. The story is in my opinion about the same level. The combat is better in HL. I liked the setting for SS better. As a 'game' I am not sure we can say System Shock is 'miles' ahead of it. It is just a matter of taste. If that is the case then to me Deus Ex is better than them both.
Did you miss the "to me" part?

I'm not making an objective statement that all must agree with. I'm speaking my opinion on a public forum dedicated to the exchange of opinion.

As for SS and why *I* think it's miles ahead of both HL and HL2, that has to do with things like story presentation (audio logs, Shodan, etc.), level design (non-linear with tons of meaningful back tracking), RPG mechanics (I like depth over mindless shooting), plot (a lot more plausible and in-depth), interaction-fidelity (hacking, puzzles, cyberspace, etc.), and so on.

As for Deus Ex - I like it a lot better than HL and HL2, but - to me - SS and SS2 are superior.

Why all pissy? what an odd response.   *shrugs*
I stated 'in my opinion' as well. It is called a discussion.  I am allowed to respond.

Oh, I get it. I pointed out your mistake and now I'm pissy? :)

    Sure, whatever.

You can respond without reading as much as you like, but you better be prepared for a lot of "pissy" corrections :)

Looks like they're going to be making games in VR.  Portal VR anyone?  Heh.

    Correction of what?
The mistakes you will inevitably make when you don't read what you're responding to.

Now I see you just have an agenda.
Like VR Sean I am placing you on ignore.
I don't waste my time with childish games.

I didn't say anything about your capacity to own up to your mistake. Most people have trouble with that kind of thing, especially online.

    Relax and be happy ;)
