I'm cautiously optimistic that this titantic failure is going to finally sink World of Warcraft for good. It's, by all account, just a terrible movie - I have seen some reviewers actually calling it the Battlefield Earth of this generation. WoW has been an albatross around the neck of MMORPGs for too long now, dragging everyone else down to its level. If there's any justice in the world, this movie, of all things, will end the phenomenon.

Bad Movie = sink popular video-game franchise? LOl, wishful thinking?
Literally the only thing a movie failure can do for WoW is still increase its numbers(because of them giving away WoW accounts for ticket purchasers).
If it's a success, it could swell up its numbers for a while due to people who liked it deciding to try. If it fails, the people playing are still going to be there, plus maybe some new folks who decide to check it out anyway(either due to said free game offer or curiosity of the founding franchise).
For a game targeting MMORPG players and computer users in general you'd have to think the DVD sales and online Pay Per View might be the place to expect big numbers.
I dont rely often here, but I just back from the threater watching it, I though it pretty good, also 2 of my brothers ( long time wow player ), also like it too. Will buy blue ray when it come out soon
I haven't seen the movie so you can disregard everything I am about to say probably, but it seems to me like this movie is targeting WoW fans, which is really the opposite of what it should be doing, which is bringing more into the fold. From the reviews I have read and the people I know who have seen it, its basically an ok-love-letter to the fans of WoW (makes minimal effort to explain anything to the uninitiated). They had an opportunity to use the movie to bring in a whole new generation of WoW fans right ahead of the next expac, but they opted to just pander to their existing fan base. It is just a little weird to me.
Here in Europe I have not heard a single person say they want to see the movie, all the chatter is about Conjuring 2.

I honestly think that the directors cut DVD/BluRAY version will be a much better movie, especially if it is true that about 1/5 of the planned movie ended up on the cutting-floor due to running length.
It is also nice to see the "hollywood" chokehold loosen slightly as china becomes a market.
Decent summer popcorn movie of the "shut down your brain and watch the smash" kind. Next one will be more interesting as the world is set. Third one will be fucking awesome and i´d guess a 2-part that spill over in to the fourth.

If bad movies had that power, we will not be having superhero movies, or even comics a long time ago, because before MCU, all of them kind of suck.
WoW will be killed only by WoW.
You don't even have to go outside of popular game franchises to have good examples.. Mario, D&D, Street Fighter (live action), so on and so forth, there are plenty of horrible movies to go around for popular game franchises. Many of those IP's remain about as popular as ever. Mario is still one of the few properties that move Nintendo Hardware off of shelves as one example.
Games just make for bad movies, even when they have deep lore, even more so in those cases really, as it's hard to fit all of that into a 2 hour long segment, leaving most clueless about what they're seeing and why they're seeing it.

i watched it , theaters was mostly empty here. The movie was terrible though, Travis Fimmel is def a one type of emotion actor no emotion at all and he did all his stupid vikings faces. Overall the movie was rushed and felt just very bad. I can see why the critics trashed it. I highly doubt this movie will do well outside of china , its just not a good movie at all. If they do a sequel it will shock me because it was just terrible.

If what I said offended you, all I can do is encourage you to grow a thicker skin. Rest assured, if that's all it takes to set off alarm bells - a swipe at what remains the most powerful name in MMOs - you're not going to make it in the real world, cupcake.
Some people are acting like they don't know what mediocre means. The movie is showing average to below average sales NA. It is not a flop and will definately make its money.
Saw it and it was great. I m sure it will make them loads of money. They ll gain subs after this for sure. How many will stay don t know, but I know a few who have never played it and never played an MMO are going to try it. Theres a few for a few months at least.
It doesn't matter how well it does from this point onwards anyway, it's already made more than it's production cost back so it's all profit from here on in.
Guess I'll report this before anyone else gets it. The Warcraft NA launch isn't going too good. So far there have been no sellouts in any cinema. I'm thinking it is a below average first day for NA sales.
Nonsense the theater I was in was full. Your source of information is bogus. You should wake up and realize that solid facts are hard to find on the web.

I wrote that in my quick impression-thread in the warcraft forums and wonder why nobody else noticed this. Travis Fimmel's acting seems to be incredibly one-dimensional. People either love or hate his acting in Vikings, but it's definately lame to see Ragnar Lothbrok in Lothar.
Except for Garon, the casting was horrible altogether. Ben Foster was completely lost and borderline irritating in his role as Medivh. They got better and more renown actors like Clancy Brown or Tony Kebbell for the CGI-orcs and left us with Ruth Negga as a totally non-majestic queen and Dominic Cooper as a miscast king Wrynn without character.
Took my youngest daughter to see it and we loved it. The theater was probably 3/4 full. Out of the 12 screens there it was the fullest, it was also in there largest one. My daughter was probably the youngest one there and she is 13..lol. Most appeared to be middle age with a split among male/female. Just guessing of course.

Yea the Travis guy plays a good Ragnar. We haven't seen him anywhere else so we really don't know about his ability to act. Are you saying that he basically acted like Ragnar when playing Lothar?

This isn't a signature, you just think it is.
Seems their strategy of releasing in the states last was a huge success.

Oh and people really need to understand this isn't a wow movie, it's based on the warcraft game from 1994.

The US isn't that important anymore, they are far too easily influenced by critics with an axe to grind.
