According to a report at Polygon, Square Enix is considering an XBox One version of the game but has some concerns about Microsoft's understanding of what it means to run an MMORPG. Naoki Yoshida confirmed that Microsoft approached the Final Fantasy XIV team about the possibility of creating an XBox One version but that the team felt it needed to have certain regulations waived before talks could progress further. At this time, the team is still waiting for Microsoft's response.

    This is really old News!

    This was already known and said around the announcement/release of the PS4 version, when people already asked why XBOne was left out.
    SE back then gave the exact same answer. So nothing new.

    SE always said they would consider an XBOne release on the condition Microsoft allows for cross platform play.

    Right now, FFXIV can be played seemless between PC and PS4 with the same account and single Subscription, as long as you own both versions.
    I can play on PC, log off, boot up my PS4, log in there and continue playing on same character, same server.

    Yeah, though not quite as old as that 1.0 screenshot included with it.

    What is new is that Microsoft have approached SE. Pretty sure they haven't done that before.

    I dont get why Final Fantasy 11 was cross play between all platforms PC/PS2/360 but this isnt.

    Why post a 1.x screenshot? That's about as bad as when my local newspaper here in Florida did a report on a movie theater opening and instead of driving to the place and taking a nice picture they downloaded the 3D model concept picture from their website and put that in the newspaper. C'monnnnn!

    Because at the time of the PS4 Version Development of FFXIV:ARR, Microsoft had locked down their XBOX Live network and didn't want anything to do with cross platform play.
    So the MMO's that released on XBOXOne had to have their own dedicated XBOX servers.

    I think the massive PS Network breach at that time probably had something to do with it and why Microsoft locked down their XBOX Live network.

    It's only very recently that Microsoft saw the light again and is finally open to Cross platform play again.

    You might have missed the part where he said "as long as you own both versions." So you still have to buy a PC and PS4 copies of the game. It is just that you only need 1 subscription for the account that you have both linked too.

    I bet now that MS has had a change of heart regarding cross platform play and also there push to have both Xbox One games play on the PC and both have cross play together. This will happen now.

    Yeah, you need to own both versions. You might want to read his comment again.
