Battleborn continues to struggle to find its audience as evidenced by the most recent Steam Chart that shows the average number of players each day hovering around 750. This number represents a 23% drop from the prior month's statistics.

there are several other shooter games coming out in 2016-2017 , and might effect battlebron negatively, expect to see some of them die or survive with small number of players, not all of them going to be successful.

Well I guess they have become "Battledead" now

Tough break for Gearbox, but after playing OW I'm just not interested in Battleborn. If anything I'll go play some TF2.

Is this a Moba or an Arena Shooter?

Competing with Blizzard has always been a tricky thing, especially if its a fresh release. I did like how SE dealt with it with FFXIV verses WoW on both of their last expansions. WoD came out and Heavensward came out about 7 months later, which allowed most of the majors patches to be out for WoD (only 3 real months of content, so sad for WoD), so FFXIV could kind of snatch some of the WoW playerbase. Maybe if Battleborn had waited for the shine of Overwatch to come off after a few more months.

It seems that every time Gearbox try to do something outside of Borderlands they fail. Is that a sign that they are not really a good company to be making games? I wanted Battleborn but i wont be bothering with a dead game. They should stick to making more BL games, BL spin off, BL multiplayer, BL etc etc etc until people cant take it anymore and the franchise dies along with Gearbox.

Hehe. When I told it will be so few months before release. Because of totally STUPID idea to ask 60$ for the game. Fanboys called me crazy.

    Every time...

I stopped logging in to steam to play my games due to the forced updates. I have shortcuts to any games I want to play. I use mods with my games, and I got tired of the constant involuntary updates for all my single player games automatically breaking all my saves.

Steam isn't the end all be all of success... the console versions still seem healthy but I don't play it that much these days.

I think it did a lot right,  but I also feel they could have done much better.  Melee still feels a little wonky for some characters, and some characters are just... unusable either in PvE or PvP.  Sometimes Both.

What blows my mind is that this is Gearbox, which is the same company that makes Borderlands. Borderlands is absolutely filled with interesting and well-loved characters.

So why the hell they decided to make an ugly-as-sin game with ridiculous looking characters rather than use their existing material is beyond me.  I would absolutely love a hero shooter where I could play Zero, Maya, Mordecai, Dr. Zed, TK Baha, Sir Hammerlock, Scooter, Axton, Gage, Tiny Tina or even Claptrap.  In fact, I would probably rather play that game than Overwatch most days.

I still think the $60 price tag killed it. Only epic games can ask that absurd amount and survive.

The console userbase looks better than the PC version, but it’s not optimistic. Some players on console report they have to wait between 2 and 10 minute for matches. What’s worse, Battleborn lead writer and former Destructoid editor Aaron Linde has left Gearbox Software.

The game isn't awful. I had a lot of fun with it for a bit. They just had an extremely poorly thought out launch. They should have launched it either earlier if possible or way after Overwatch. Overwatch loomed over any game that launched anywhere near it, especially any team based shooter with a lot of characters to choose from, even if they aren't similar.

I agree with that but to be fair, I played on the XB1 around launch and I always had to wait that long for a match.  I always thought it was a discouraging sign, but I think their matchmaking for console is just really really bad.

This must mean that mobas are dead now! /s

Another great example of saturation imo.

That's what happens when you release a identical game to Overwatch almost at the same time, was pretty obvious since day one BattleBorn was going to die with out the need of looking at any numbers, lol.

You know you can disable updates for the games you don't want updated.  Right click on game in library, go to properties and you will see the update tab.

Yes you can disable it but I notice it starts updating regardless of me saying not to. This has happened a few times where I picked the option to only update when I launch the game and it updates games I am not even playing.

I think every time the steam client gets an update my preferences are disregarded.

When did they start developing Battleborn? It seems like Overwatch certainly had an impact on their aesthetics but was that a last minute change by the devs?
  • gervaise1gervaise1 Member EpicPosts: 6,919
As said it happens and it is up to Gearbox Batteborn to push back - if it can.

LoL launched a new competition or whatever after OW launched. TF2 has launched something. What impact they will have ... shrug. They have to try however.

Lobby Shooter, with a MOBA like mode I played this game quite a bit, but it is easy to get bored when you only have 2 maps per PvP mode and a really short and easy story mode. There is just no substance. They may as well just go F2P and let it die like it is going to anyway.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

Shocking, not. OW is game of the year.
