The Technomancer is Spider’s latest budget-priced, AAA-aspiring RPG. Playing as Zachariah Mancer, players take up arms and the power of electricity itself to uncover Mars’ secrets. We sent our resident RPG columnist to the red planet to discover if this was Spiders’ best or another promising idea that fell short of the mark.

"its lack of rough edges stand out like a sore thumb."

Wouldn't that be a good thing? It probably should read:

I am really surprised by the issues of this game how it retailed at such a high price. I have a couple of friends that picked it up and said it is way over priced for what it offers..

I'd rather slap a few new mods into Fallout 4 and start a new run through before I'd spend any money on this.

Maybe on the Steam sale in 2018...

I played it and had fun. Wasn't worth the money though, half price maybe.

I was about to get it before launch but read the company has a track record for making games that have problems, so I will wait and pick it up a year from now when it goes on sale and has been patched a bit.

I am having a lot of fun with it and do not have any problem with reading the enemy telegraphs. Playing a warrior-technomancer tree mix and it works really well. All tree of the playstyles have their place but they are vastly different despite not looking like it in the beginning. I recommend rebinding the keys so you have dodge on space, aoe attack/gun/parry on rmb and interrupt/stab/bash on f.

That and a few other things like missing an "is" in "As you play, however, it becomes clear that Rogue the preferred playstyle" made me think this article was filed in hurry minus some editing.

The game does seem to have some fairly glaring issues, the combat is not very good, but that pretty much sums up the rest of the game too, anyone thinking of buying the game really needs to watch a few lets plays or game reviews on youtube, Total Biscuit etc. pretty much nailed how bad the game is. Actually i'd rather go back and play through the entire Mass Effect series of games than bother with Technomancer, it really is that bad. :o

It wouldn't be horrible if it was like 20$ probably.

U are fools. Technomancer is a solid action rpg. I've plugged 30 hours and not quite done with first playthrough, and I'm excited for next playthrough on higher difficulty with different combat style. Very reminiscent of mass effect 1, especially the music. I love the combat, as well as the leveling, crafting, customization mechanics. The characters are interesting, and sometimes hilarious. I hated fallout 4, new vegas, inquisition, and was not overly fond of skyrim, however. Different strokes, people. The industry Co opting of mmo features has irked me. Sometimes u must take a few steps back to push the genre forward.

I've finished the game and I think it is a OK action rpg, the story is nice, there are some good characters and the combat is fun but a little repetitive. I've played investing points only in warrior and technomancer trees and had 0 problems once I understood how combat works. After certain points of the game (or after hitting certain levels) the enemies change getting better gear and becoming more dangerous, but it is just a matter of paying a little more attention and learning their moves.
I just got a little disapointed by the 2 last boss encounters of the game because both were way too easy in my opinion, and I think the ending is a bit rushed, other than that, overall good game, it could be better, but I think Spiders is just getting better at their games.

Rough edges are nice.  Flat over-tuned games are boring.

After the distinctly bland and disappointing Bound By Flame, and now this, I can't work out if Spiders just need more money, or more talent? Or perhaps both?

Needless to say, after getting sucked in by BBF at full price I won't touch another Spiders game.

    You lost me right there.
As someone who has played ME1, 2 and a little of 3, I have to agree, although, it might under the right circumstances, like, how members of the opposite sex etc. get prettier the more beer you drink.
But in the cold light of sobriety, you discover your mistake, and that last nights Claudia Schiffer has somehow turned into 'cousin itt' from the adams family, or worse :p

Rough edges are perfectly fine. When there's a worthwhile pearl underneath that. There isn't one here. If that means I like "flat overtuned games" because I don't like horrible combat, a clunky narrative, and deadpan companions then so be it.
