This week our own Tim Eisen explores the responsibility backers of Chronicles of Elyria have when it comes to preventing developers from letting their passion misguide them.

You can't look for people who believe in a miracle, then expect those same people to step back and see the project for what it is.

Entire appeal of Kickstarter is donated money thus you no longer have to care about your customers at all.
Though I have to say the part that is most informative about this post is the reaction of the 'artist', these people are passionate, they believe in their work, that criticism can be hard to hear especially if you believe you have a perfect turtle. I do hope that on their side the developers skins thicken, and on our side we take into account it is still not thick enough to be an impenetrable armour and while we should be honest, we should step back and be rational, we should present any criticism with respect.
Currently that is getting good results, and I hope it continues.

Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.
It remains to be seen which side of the line Walsh falls on, but it does not look good. The goals seem too large, the timeframe seems too short, the budget seems too small and the skill set of Walsh and his crew seems to be too thin.
You mean like MMO projects that take in 100's millions of dollars but after a few development years have the equivalent of about 1 million of a playable, alpha game? But do offer some really cool and expensive items you can purchase?
Yeah, like that, but also like people who make obscure comments about relative state of the game, in dollars, in relation to the amount actually invested (ie only $1 million of a playable game) without having any clue about what it costs to develop a game, or software, or anything that doesn't have a finite schedule. If you'd like predictability, feel free to take a walk down to your local automotive factory. They've got mass production down to a T. I'll bet cars would be pretty fuckin' expensive, though, if they re-invented their process every time they released a new car.
Don't worry, though, you are NOT the problem..... like not at all.

If any one person donates more than 1K, then I'll offer free ride-along's at Circuit of the Americas track days. For everyone else, I'll stream track days from my go-pro mounted to the brace strut. It'll be fun for all!
However, there are a few stupid testers who think criticism means they get to do game design.
I don't trust players and they have zero accountability in the situation. They can simply move on to another game if their game design "suggestion" fails to work like it did in their little brain. Also, so many of them think they can see it better than the devs who are "deep inside it". You basically have limited information to make your suggestions.
I want devs to have passion for their design. I don't want players to be involved in design of the game. Replacing dev passion with player passion seems misguided. Put the blame on the Millennial generation for all their self important DEMANDs.

One thing i can say for certain is that passion is NEVER learned.
You are born with a type of mindset, most of which is developed from a young age, your peers, friends, parents etc etc.
The people that don't give a crap about anything bother me like you can't imagine. They are the type of people who won't lift a finger to help unless asked ore told to and they definitely don't care about anything they do or see in life.Believe it or not, they are typically the same people who go ballistic when someone steals from them but have no problem stealing from others.
In reality,we really cannot be talking about developers and passion in the same sentence.Business people would steal or take as much your money as they can with no regrets. They will cut corners on business if that is what it takes, they are NEVER concerned about you the consumer, which is why so many consumer laws have to be created.
Point being passionate people are that all the time but when comes to business, many factors change even the best of people.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Just look at the latest post on their forums. Instead of saying his goal of launching the no wipe headstart just over a year from now represented a best case scenario where EVERYTHING had to go right and it was unlikely (see ongoing webstore fiasco) he still clings to that as a legitimate target. How can anyone realistically believe a guy who says they will go from pre-alpha to no wipe headstart in under 13 months? Oh yeah and along the way also develop and release the Prologue, Kingdom game and full fledged Mud. Oh and by the way we never shipped a single game before and our first post kickstart deliverable (webstore) has been delayed countless times and is months late.
Now is the time for the fanbase to talk reality to them and not re-enforce the echo chamber mentality.
All time classic MY NEW FAVORITE POST! (Keep laying those bricks)
