The fact that he did not stay around killing others kind of says it was not a suicide mission. It is called deductive reasoning.
In this case the idiot murderer could have used a knife as well so blaming it on the gun is not very convincing either. It is a different case when someone use an automatic weapon in a crowded place which clearly get more people killed then a knife wielding maniac but in this case both your arguments belong to another discussion.
I will not input my personal view here (but neither of you would probably like it) since a mod already told us not to get political here, my point is that it also is off topic here. So cut it out and stay on topic.
Actually, there is plenty of empirical evidence that gun reform actually reduces the number of violent crimes associated with firearms. Honestly, you're just being willfully ignorant. A simple google search shows that there have been marked decreases in gun-related violence when stricter gun laws are in place.
Tell you what, I'll stick with my gun laws here in Canada, and you arm every American. Let's see who runs out of people first.

You're talking about systemic issues. If getting rid of guns was a silver bullet (no pun intended) then I'm sure it would have been done long ago. It's very simple to pick and choose evidence based on fact. However, that doesn't change the fact that the US has higher rates of firearm related deaths than places that Americans are afraid to go. Did you know that the US has a higher rate of death by firearm per capita than Mexico? They have a rate that's 5 times higher than Canada, 10 times higher than Australia, and 20 times higher than Great Britain.
As far as Chicago goes, Illinois' rate of death by firearm is actually 10% lower than the national average and they are nearly in the top 10 (11th) in states with the lowest rate of death by firearm.
That being said, I wouldn't expect you to change your view. As I said, just arm every American. It's not a matter of gun control as a silver bullet. However, if every person WAS armed, then you have that mix of things like situational + tools + opportunity which leads to these types of crimes.
That being said, I know nothing because I'm just a socialist pig, pacifist sitting up here in Canada.

States with the highest gun ownership have the lowest gun related murder rates. Gun Deaths is not a good stat cause that includes suicides.

Imagine a nut job deciding way early not to attack theater cause everyone would be armed and instead going to a gun free zone that that theater was.
