As some of you probably noticed this past week or two, the creator of No Man's Sky, Hello Games' Sean Murray, has been doing a bit of expectation and damage control in light of leaked footage and impressions. There's a massive day one patch and progress wipe on the game today, though and many excited players and journalists are finally reviewing the game.

If it's a single player game in spirit why review it on this site at all....seems like flame bait to me.

This site has covered single player RPG and RPG-survival games literally for years. It's a big game with a big following with lots of cross-over interest from MMO and RPG players. There is simply no reason not to review it.

I think people made this game out to be something its not. I was expecting something along the lines of Starbound, Terraria or Minecraft. But its absolutely nothing like that. From the footage ive seen its just a bunch of randomly generated planets you can run around on.

Its like the developers behind it thought the mere act of walking around in a virtual environments is some groundbreaking experience. In reality what makes for a good game is the content you fill that world with.

the problem I have had with fans of this game for years is that for at least a year that (only explore and nothing else) is literally all the developer revealed. Everything else was assumed

I am looking forward to this game ... I like a good mystery and exploration type games. Single or MMO .. all good to me. I do like that the Devs tried to keep everything hush hush as long as they could as to not let any hype or opinion sway what they wanted to accomplish.

Because this is primarily a PC gaming site and most people here are PC gamers? Anyway, from experience, if there is a game with both a PC and console version, the PC one is usually superior so why not review the better version?

For me I would say Lifeless Planet, Firewatch and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
I wonder if a game like Firewatch should have been hyped to the same level as NMS

Why buy a expensive console when you can just buy the game for a lower total cost 3-4 days later?

sometimes its even more than that. 7 days to die for example the console version sucks AND will not contain the most important update Alpha 15

The downsides to PC is that you often have to sit up right which is not good for the back long term and you dont get social approval from IGN :)

So what do you do in this game. Fly from one planet to another and walk around exploring rinse and repeat? Are their NPC's to interact with? Do you get missions? Are there cities and towns on any planets? Are there space stations?

I'm curious.  If this isn't an MMO type game (and the developer seems to want that point very clear), then why is there a need to have whatever a 'progress wipe' is?  Why would the developer worry about progress?  What difference would it make if one player was 'ahead' of another, in what is essentially a solo game?

    I'm definitely getting mixed signals.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Since Hello Games is an indie studio, we don't need a review to know what score the game would get.

Just like we know the scores major titles get.

The things you discover are saved on a server if you  upload them. So what you discover will be "discovered" for everyone.  Planets you name and upload will have that name for everyone.

That's one reason for a wipe. The other is that they have changed things from how the game started a few weeks ago. So if you started early, you could not play with the new changes. They just wanted a clean new start on the game.

Dunno why people here are so bent out of shape...lot of them wanted to see reviews before buying...well they can now. PS4 is out a day or 2 before PC.  So check it out and do not buy if you do not see anything you will like.

Game itself seems pretty bad, but I'd be interested to see an MMORPG built on this kind of randomly generated stuff.

For example, a Star Trek MMORPG built like this game is would be pretty amazing.

Of course, you'd have to have much more potential player interaction than this game seems to offer, but it seems doable.
