No Man's Sky experiences 78% decline in playerbase

TalonsinTalonsin Member EpicPosts: 3,619
Really says a lot about how disappointed most gamers are with this title to see the playerbase shrink like that in only 7 days.

Its even lower now if you check steamcharts

Yeah, though the game decays on playerbase i don't think they would be much worried about it.

After all they must have made one incredible amount of money from the game that if they have that intention will fund further expansions to gameplay to get players back interested.

27 hours, 3 planets and 1 warpjump, I'm not disappointed with the game. Summer is happening. True NMS is not a title I want to played for 8 hours straight. I did buy the game for Pc after watching PS4 streamers playing it for a couple of days. When I check my friendlist all the people who own NMS have logged on today and played it for a few hours each. All did the same as me, they didn't pre-order they have watched people play it on twich and beam.

I'm not surprised that people who boarded the hype-train and pre-ordered the game already left. I understand the game is not what they were looking for, but buy smart and try the game in beta (which was not possible) or see some actual footage from people playing the game. PS4 was showcasing it the entire week. If I have to choose between the game is terrible versus impulse buyers. The Impulse Buyers win the cake, but it wouldn't have hurt if the game had some more features to please these buyers.

I don't think the games really finished.  I decided to wait awhile then try it out. No hurry.

I've just been waiting for the Monday patch that was suppose to address the crashes.

I'm not really surprised to see the drop-off in player numbers.

NMS is essentially a niche game, it's waaaay to slow-paced to keep the average gamer interested for more than a week at most.

I really would like to play this some day, but I'm simply not willing to roll the dice on a $60 game that has polarized so many people.

Last week of summer and then first day of school today.  That alone will hurt it immensely by raw numbers.

Rough start, technical issues, and a slow paced, overhyped niche game doesn't help either.

It's not a sub game so they already got their money. Retention in single player games is relatively not at all relative until they come out with an expansion or new game.

    Unless.... cash shop! Mwahahaha

Do we have an estimate about how many copies across all platforms are sold so far ?

If on steam alone it reaches 220K players playing at the same time. With console on the mix i think we could be talking of millions of copies.

Really?  78% decline of playerbase in 7 days after release is normal?

For a single player game? Thats pretty normal. Most people blow through single player games within a week or 2 of them releasing, then move on. Need to stop treating NMS like it's an MMO that people are going to play for months. Only a small percentage will continue playing it beyond doing the minimal amount to finish the core of the game. Not everyone is going to bother just exploring random planets endlessly, it gets very repetitive after awhile.

that happens if you sell an unfinished product out of greed just to make some cash finally after developement.

that also happens if you want to use your final products customers as Beta testers.

Shame on these Hello Games managers !

Much Shame on them !!! they ruined a nice idea

A couple of days ago in another thread I proposed that this game looks like it would get boring fast.  I guess that question has been answered.

A huge dip in players? do you think the developers care????

nope. . .they already fleeced gamers for millions. If they are smart they will simply take their big sacks of money and leave town, never to be seen in the industry again. . .

Bomb?  AHAHAHA.  They made a BOATLOAD of money.  It doesn't matter how many people play it now.  The money was made.

All it takes is fake hype to get gamers to buy something.  A lesson I learned by age 10, to wait for reviews and to wait for critical discussion before paying full price(which nowadays you should never do anyways) is something incomprehensible to most gamers.

They are laughing all the way to the bank.  This was able to be seen coming from miles away.

You are assuming, from your post, that the game is crap. I would say the game is exactly what was articulated and that's why, as expected, I love it.

I'm sorry for all those who are bored but, seriously, they should have known whether or not they would be just by reading up on it. The game is hardly different from what the trailers and previews suggested.

All I can say is that plenty of people love the game who made a careful purchase. For the remainder, they messed up or got a Steam refund and have lost nothing.

Please don't assume that because it's not your type of game that it must be crap.

Did the players ever find out how to meet up in game?
