tbh its actually the last company i had thought would ever consider this but when your on there friday night and see 17 k online its a sad state of affairs
So I wont be able to undock any of my ships and all my mods will be offline. Yay, I can sit in station and spin my ships.
Well, its playing for free, so the limitations are not exactly unjustified, thats not to say that you can't get quite a bit done with Tech I Frigates, Destroyers, and Cruisers. But if your only interested in flying Tengu's Rattlesnakes, or even Battleships, then you can sub, but if your not interested enough to pay a sub, then how is that a problem?
This is not a game it's a chore, and many playing are driven by real money making interests. It's really off putting how things in game translate to real a money loss. Not to mention the type of behaviour CCP allows. If you're not buying isk for real money you can't compete in this game. It's a MMO that caters to sociopaths, especially when there's real money on the line. Keep your game CCP.
This thread is making me wanna resub to Eve. The amount of dedication and organization the players of this game have is astounding. The level of detail and many many complex gameplay mechanics is unmatched by any game I have ever played. This game really gives you something special when you truly begin to understand it.
EVE has always been a game that attracts a very specific gamer, and I don't think pricing and payment models will change much of that. The game takes so much more dedication than the average person can give to a single game.

A classic move. A publisher alters the business model to F2P to extend the life of a dying game. And why is that? Similar thing happened to Anarchy Online. The veterans established a choke-hold on the game that discouraged new blood. Instead of making the necessary changes for the game's long term survival in spite of some players not liking it, the publisher catered to those same players and figured out how to re monetize them. But the same choke-hold still remains. F2P solved nothing when new players left as fast as they came. In fact, F2P actually worsened the choke-hold. By allowing F2P accounts, Players simply created new accounts to hold their billions upon billions upon billions of credits. The individual player credit cap was 1B. The F2P move now allowed for players to stockpile so many credits, that expensive items began to sell for upwards of a bil. (Can't get any higer since the transaction was impossible) WTF is that????? The individual credit limit cap in game now becomes the standard for single purchase transactions? It took an already broken economy and totally shattered it. It'll be interesting to see what EVEN MORE player accounts are going to do for this game.........LOL!!!!!!
Hey CCP, good luck with this. You are going to need it.
This didn't work for Anarchy long term, I doubt it'll work here either.
With an unlimited trial you can easily get a plex, exploration, or scanning mission runners and stealing all their loot.
I still think they should open a new server with the f2p release.
The price of PLEX will probably go unreasonably high. As most rare modules.
EVE's economy was a nice one. PLEX always moved between 400 and 900kk ISK depending on the season. That amount was easily farmable, even with just PvE. I can't count the times I've had a 400-500kk drop from a random bandits.
Although even with that the game lacked something to retain me, I don't know. Agents missions were fun, the first 200 times. Scanning is fun, the first 200 times. Fair PvP is pretty much impossible etc etc.
You must be extremely lucky or full of crap, the most I have seen any npc fight drop more than 25-30mil and that is quite rare. I have been playing a long time too.
As to this change, good luck trying to do lvl 4's with tech 1 stuff, going to take a long long time to kill, although your secondary miners and haulers could benefit. You could have a tech 1 alt help out with lvl 4's, but you have to be careful, they would break easily. You don't seem to grasp that the development staff have upped the level of difficulty in all these missions for all the tech 2 and tech 3 stuff and that makes a big difference.
If CCP thinks people mainly quit because of the subscription fees they are bonkers, most quit because of all the idiots who play this game, like any goon or goon supported activity.
I stopped playing when 4 frigates took out 2 well built battlecruisers. Gimmicks like that don't belong in a game like this. I did not even get a warning this was one of their gimmick fights.
Personally I think the game gets worse with every expansion. I used to have a lot of fun when tech 1 was the norm and tech 2 a rarity. This new change will really not help the game that much. Just more fodder for goons.

Sounds like you are a high sec dweller running L4 missions.
Get into incursions, nullnsec anoms and escalations and you'll make more ISK, maybe not as a F2P account however.

High sec rofl, spent almost all that time in nullsec and low sec. I have done about every possible npc activity except incursions. I have heard those are profitable, but you have to have the right people with you. I still stand by what I said, never seen anything close to the drops he described. I know that high level officer loot does drop, but it is extremely rare. The way he was talking it is quite common.

No, it is not common, but run some Mazes and you'll see them regularly.

Did you actually see the point in my post? I don't think you did. It looks like you would rather nit-pick insignificant points to deflect from the real problems that were incurred in one game and could very well happen in another.

If you are equating "population decline" to "dying gane" then we are all playing dying games after the first month.
Video games are a business, shifting models to keep your product profitable over time is standard business operation.
Should all game companies just throw in the towel after the first month when they lose a huge % of players?
Or maybe do you think that game companies should try everything in their power to keep selling their product and make money like any business does?
What CCP is doing is what any business would do with an aging product.
No, Not even close. That has nothing to do with what I said.
I said that when you make free accounts available, it will be the existing population that will utilize them more than new players will. Unless CCP takes precautions, this could become a problem in the same way FR00B Mule accounts wrecked AO's economy.

Alpha clones are severely limited in their potential, way more than current trial accounts. While it is said it isn't decided yet, it will very likely be unable to multibox with Alpha clones.
Tech 1 Ships? Mining Frigate? A nice list of skills? Sounds good for an unlimited trial option and should give new players a taste of EvE without cash.
As for me, as an old player from over 10 years ago I have no interest in returning, even for free. It's not the skill list or what we can do and fly, that's all cool with me, I would have everything I want. I left because I didn't want to be prey and I didn't want to be a predator either. This new setup will fire up that whole scenario something good for a while.
No matter how fun EvE is if you don't want to be the prey or predator there's no place for you in EvE. I learned that the hard way.
I do love EvE and I wish CCP good luck with this. Hope it helps keep the game going.

Instead of making alt accounts and half-cut assumptions, you would be better off actually trying out and learning the game...

VO actually has something very similar to this, also; you can play for free forever on Android, but you will be capped at license 4 in all categories, cannot create a guild or hold council rank.
Subscription players get to be super involved in guild politics and build capital ships.

"Severely limited in their potential"? What's the point? They can't be too limited or the whole thing is meaningless, and if there is any use whatsoever, you can bet the existing veteran player based will make more use of it than any new or returning player will.
