Dual Universe has so much promise and potential, I went to see it twice. Fortunately I am not going for a lowbrow joke here, over the course of Gamescom I first sat down with Ludovic Serny, the Community & Social Media manager at Novaquark. A day or so later there was the chance to sit down and chat with Jean-Christophe Baillie, President at Novaquark.

Love the idea for the game, but the building side of the game seems completely unimmersive and unsatisfying.

When I build something in an mmo, I want to actually feel like I'm building. This makes me feel like I'm playing a 3d design app like Blender instead of actually crafting. Where are the tools? What about processing materials?

Does the lore support that players will things into existence or is that just an oversight?

Another game with loads of "potential", lol

And even more massively ambitious than usual ! :D

Keeping an eye on their progress, but trying to ignore the hype-pressure that's slowly building around this title...

Going to get higher over the next week as they launch a Kickstarter on the 7th.

So tired of potential and promise . For a change I would like delivered finished product that these companies pitch.

I can't help but have a NMS vibe about Dual Universe on the aspect of indie team taking on massively a challenging project, they have a very complex design on several parts of the game that is not going to be easy to get right.

So as Dual Universe seems to be going to setup a Kickstarter soon far i hear, let's see how it goes.

Better to have things with potential on the horizon than not IMO.  Even if 99% don't pan out, that leaves 1% of goodness.  However, I almost always try to ignore the hype and just watch from afar.  Keeps me from being dissapointed when the 99% hit the fan.

I think they key is for people to not get so personally invested in these dream games.

Game makers have really gotten good with the hype machine and telling people what they want to hear and showing people what they want to see. It's the stuff they don't say that you have to watch out for. Now it's better to what and see unless you have money to burn.

Watching him make that ship I wondered how much freedom there was .Can you really go freestyle and draw in the shapes?

I haven't seen a really decent sandbox MMO come out of Kickstarter yet, not holding my breath.

It's been complicated days yeah, they are usually ambitious un-tested ideas, MMO's ain't cheap or easy to pull off as its known so small indie companies have really high risk of being unable to deliver to the level expected/wanted.

Yes, the lore does. The technology they use allows them to shrink and store materials (using a device on their arm and a backpack like thing) then extract them, restore their size, and form them into whatever shape they need, all in an instant. Or something, it's been a while since I read that dev diary.

Definitely looking forward to the game. As a game programmer myself, I'm exited to be able to script ship AIs, drones, etc. I see no technical reason why they can't pull off what they've put forth, our technology is at a point where a single-shard universe is possible and they're leaving the level design to the game (procedurally generated) and object creation and scripting to the players, so they have that much less work to do.

Look good for people who like to build. I would just hope that you don't have to fly a ship that looks like bathroom tile.

There's nothing more gratifying than playing an MMO for free.
