    He'll receive no praise from me. Metzen is a hack writer, and has skimmed very close to plagiarism with the majority of his IPs. I'm frankly happy to see him gone.

    I am sure he is all broken up about your disdain. . .

    . . . and while yes he was no Shakespeare, he was no  Stephenie Meyer either . . .

    I am surprised to see the industry still has people who are credited as writers, the story element of MMOs has declined dreadfully over the years.

    It was on this site, must be 7 or 8 years ago that a writer told us that gaming companies gradually came to think that writing is the job of everybody and the tea boy in the company. :D

    Some are being negative because they think he lacked originality, not sure that's fair. But his work was seminal and will be cut and pasted into all the WoW clones for goodness how many years to come.

    Mr. Metzen did what anyone would do, make money to live very well. His empire will live on forever while his servants starve and struggle to pay the rent.

    Here's a guy that had all the passion and love for WoW and without a doubt had a huge part to play in its success. I never knew him personally but my friends that met him at Blizzcon and so forth have only had good things to say about this charismatic gaming nerd.

    People may have mixed opinions on his work but no one can say that he did not love the games he helped create.

    Was a good writer in the past, but the latest generation of Blizzard has been pretty.. sub-par.

    I think they do need new key members.. particularly the people that made the company great with Diablo 2, Starcraft and Warcraft 3. Too bad some of them are loooong gone and nothing will bring them back.

    RIP Blizzard.

    Hopefully Metzen will still do voice acting; was pretty good at that, plus he is Thrall after all..

    It surprises me, that even here at this forum, ppl would instantly bash someone as successful as Chris Metzen, just for wanting to spend more time with his family.

    Chris Metzen played a huge part in creating one of the biggest successful games in the history of gaming.
    Even tho you hate this guy or not, he clearly must have done a truly amazing job.

    All i can say is, gl Chris Metzen, hope you find what you are looking for!

    I find it hilarious when people say things like "His writing isn't original or good".  People it's a fucking video game, not Shakespeare.  Some of you really need to get a grip or find a new hobby.  Video games are about fun and not stressing whether your game of choice is going to win the next Oscar or Emmy.

    But the same thing could be said about almost all MMO lore writers, and when they hire in someone who actually wrote good books (like Jeff Grubb) they still make cheesy stuff.

    People writing lore for MMOs copy eachother and popular culture to make a very specific type of story and it is certainly on purpose or otherwise people who actually made good books or a good single player story would be far better then the rest instead of writing more of the same. I guess the publishers think we are too stupid to enjoy a good story while we play a MMO, some singleplayer games actually had an awesome story but I never seen a MMO with story good enough for a book or even a none sci-fy channel tv show (those guys film any stuff).

    Metzen wasn't bad and I wish him all the luck in his retirement. But unless he actually write a book (not unlikely) I can't really judge his skill as an author.

    I still don't see why a MMO can't have a good story, but I blame the publishers for that. I also think MMOs needs to become better at telling the story, single player tools doesn't work as good in a MMO.

    Other than SWG, WoW has given me the most MMO enjoyment over the years.

    I don't know if Metzen was behind this one, but my most memorable quest line in Vanilla WoW was the alliance major endgame quest line called "The Great Masquerade".

    I think that is and still is one of the best and most memorable questlines in WoW !
    For me personally it had a great story and was fantastic!

    Because Winston and Overwatch, like WoW, are his creative baby. :)

    He is more of a writer in the sense of comics, not so much novels. Hate all you want, Warcraft lore is still better than Everquest lore :D

    Is the /console ActionCam command coming back with 7.1? I'm waiting to play till that comes back. I want to experience the quests with that feature active, hell its why I bought this expac. May seem dumb to some of you, so be it. When that comes back I'll start Legion.

    AQ3D is cool, I played a few hours of it, the only problem is almost nothing is complete. A LOT of work to go there. But I'm excited for it.

    Metzen's art for Orcs and Humans was the first time I came across him, he will be missed. But with hundreds of millions in the bank who can blame him! Graterz to Chris.

    This dude and his story writing is responsible for some of my favorite gaming memories as well as greatest annoyances.
