Stargate Worlds wasn't so much a vaporware game as it was a Ponzi scheme. MGM ended up pulling the Stargate license when they found that out. It's hard to top that for false advertising.
No Man's Sky is an outrageous case of false advertisement. It wasn't just overhyped due to fans and the community -- it was due to how the trailers were produced with misleading concepts such as ships flying in groups of 3, the claims and desired features (multiplayer, griefing, etc) made by Sean Murray during interviews, and the game itself had little to no content. You could never consider No Man's Sky to be worth $60 dollars because it didn't even have an end game / ending -- which, by the way, is another outrageous claim made by the developers that there would be something special/amazing at the middle of the NMS universe. It's a comic tragedy.
You honestly have to laugh at how little the game had to offer.
Did he ever do anything that didn't fall short of what was promised?
A lot of Bullfrog games in the early 90's.
Syndicate Populous Theme Park Magic Carpet Dungeon Keeper
Those were all great games.
Loved populous and Dungeon keeper!! don't honestly remember the advertising, but they were fun.
Plus Populous 3 had a demo, which I enjoyed playing many times, and made me look for the game in the nearest shopping centre like crazy until I found it. I've never regretted the money I spent on it.
No. I'm not a practicing idealist. Most of the time I don't try to see the world as how I hope it would be. George Carlin said it well. "Inside every cynic is a disappointed idealist." He probably wasn't the first person to say something along those lines.
When you take that cynicism, pessimism and selfish thought process and use them to filter anything said by someone who wants something from you that is when you start to see through the bull shit spewed by marketers and advertisers. That's when you start to see that their own cynicism, pessimism, and selfish thought process allows them to not tell you everything about a product in an attempt to get you to put your money in their pocket for what ever they are trying to get you to buy.
Part of my cynicism, pessimism and selfishness looks at your poll and wonders why you only asked for others to post their reason for voting negatively in the poll. Why didn't you include this for the other options in the poll? My cynicism says you did it for ulterior motives. That you were doing your own form of marketing.
From that perspective, what's the point of having any rights at all? It would be the law of the jungle, be aware of every word, action, etc. from everybody because surely it will be a trap. It would turn anybody crazy.
Since every single game comes with a lawyers statement on how your gaming experience may differ or change at any time, how can there be any false advertising, since this agreement is basically saying the game may or may not offer what you seek and even if it does it could change on a moment's notice. This kind of crap is in every game which shows how little laws protect consumers but allow big business to get away with whatever they want and to even create their own laws. Makes you wonder how we ever had law against private server's.Devs can shut down servers at any moment with no excuse or care that you may have invested a couple thousand into the game already. So to think there was never anything in place to make sure us the consumer doesn't get ripped off,it a terrible injustice and to think it is changing is imo way too slow and a half assed effort.
If you don't understand what i am eluding to,well then think of it this way...
The government ALLOWS these lawyer agreements in our games, they ALLOW websites and devs to LIE,well then guess what happens, well yeah we get scammed by everyone involved with making money off these games.Ever notice how almost every single review gets around a 8/10 or at worst a 7/10 ,thta to me is lol,we are being lied to by every corner of gaming/marketing/advertising.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

You call it the law of the jungle. I call it due diligence. Whose marketing spin is better/worse?

I'm frustrated but as an rational person have to accept I was way too hyped by Sean interviews . Game Sean talks about at interviews never was NMS not even close .
Every thing was a lie even from most basic things
1 Solar system are closed Boxes you are not in a whole open universe 2. Planets are not real planets size 3. Planets are stationary .....only the Sun that is just a light source move around simulating day cycle . including many other more common features mention more often
A huge blow to mmoJnkies NMS will most likely never become a decent Multiplayer or MMO game has worst defense from hacking more like none . Few hours after release you already could play NMS for free no defense what so ever . On second day God mode cheats where available
This game has so many issues I think it will never rehabilitate

It will never be an mmo. And after you've played NMS in its current state, could you really find value in breaking rocks all day? The game would need a serious revamp in all aspects. It's not even worthy of being entitled a Beta Test with the limited content.
I knew the game was offline the moment I pressed the pause button on my ps4 controller and the environment stopped moving around me. Simply.

NMS was never really on my radar but I remember seeing an interview where Sean was talking about simulating star systems, planetary orbits etc and he said something like "The really unique thing about NMS is..." and I remember thinking to myself "Frak off Sean it's not unique, Elite is already doing this." I think everything from that point on was taken with a pinch of salt. This was just a guy who was going to say anything to sell his game.
Wildstar adverts made the game look lighthearted and casual fun. I never saw anything about hardcore challenges.
I was interested in NMS but never saw anything in the demos that backed up the interviews so left it alone but will probably buy it when the price drops just for the repetitive exploration and modding.

Well, No Mans Sky put a new perspective on SPORE. In fact, the activity and popularity of SPORE went UP because of how bad No Mans Sky is, made SPORE look much better in comparison.
Not joking or trolling either. I've seen a TON more people on the SPORE forum, many new, many old, and a lot of it is because they said SPORE is actually fun compared to No Mans Sky. That is pretty much their exact words.
It might be the first game to make another game look good in comparison lol
