Lol blizzard knows where the money is at. WoW will be put on life support. It's had its day and now will be left to fade. All the major players have been let go or sent out to be used on other assets. Also they canceled their next big mmorpg in favor for a MOBA and a first person arena shooter. Will it shut down tomorrow? No, but I highly doubt we will see another xpac and players will just bleed off over time.
WoW is still doing very well. Life support is a ways off yet. Don't confuse a down trend in subs as a negative profit margin. Profits are going down with the subscriptions, but it's still enough that they care.
Apparently it's a misquote/misstatement/mistranslation or something, they're denying the number now.
They are not denying the number! That was a smart move from Blizzard to do ! Put someone to tell the numbers and if someone officially asks , they will just go with exactly what they said "we are not going to release numbers anymore" !
From my inside sources at Blizz - they are nowhere close to 10mil subs in WoW.
But they don't care as they are still doing really well and are killing it with their OW and HS
If they can get the masses to believe it is 10M+ then its a victory for them.....I agree with you they are nowhere near that many subs

This is absurd. Legion has already sold more copies than most MMOs sell in their entire lifetime. Why on earth would anyone believe Blizzard is ready to pull the plug on such a profitable enterprise?
I'll add onto that and say, in addition people literally complain about content getting tired, so they could probably even increase their expack releases to every year about still sell 10M copies per release, and might actually retain customers more easily.
How exactly does one prove how many subscribers they have? I'm not going to call bullshit or anything, but hell, even Blizzard is capable of spinning the truth or flat out lying in today's modern gaming industry. It's almost like politics now with the amount of lying and misleading information going on around the internet.
For me all it takes is to look at the realm list during peak hours.
The vast majority is showing "low", a handful "medium" and a handful "High".
I repeat myself : The Blizzard hate on this site is sky-high !
The xpac is selling not well, but VERY well , and yet, game is doing poorly , it will go on life support , etc !
So, to all who says that the game has 5-6 mil subs , then this must be a first in the entire WoW history , when the game sell 3 + mil copies in the launch day and yet, it has 5-6 mil subs! Almost all other expansions had 8-12 mil subs with 2.7-3.3 mil copies sold in the launch day , yet .. with Legion can't happen that! I mean , yea, sure , half the subs bought the expansion until launch day! Yup? Yup!

Ive played only classic but that time it was a shitty ass grindfest with a horrible unblanced class and pve system. ill never understand those people that wish for classic, its like they never wanna grow up.
Not sure about numbers, but for sure where ever I go in Legion, there is plenty of players all around. And love it, expansion we have been waiting for. Still place for improvements of course. For sure have my money for subs for I guess next half year, maybe less. No matter how much I love some game, I need to play others as well, love Swtor, Teso, Gw2, Rift, ... to many and so little time. :-)

So long as the game pulls in 500 mil a year its doing very good. I don't like WOW myself but I admit its making some money and continues to do so.
Yeah right, game had 5 million last official announcement, and probably lost even more before Legion. Legion sold a little over 3 million copies, so 6-7 million playing something less than Legion? ROFLMAO!
I would be surprised if they still have 4 million subs. My brother in law plays and he said there doesn't seem to be that many returning players. He just stopped over some sort of big berf to the new class.
I used to love WoW. Vanilla was great, and BC added arenas, more complexity, and gems. WotLK added glyphs and more complexity, even if the gameplay started leaning towards somewhat OP, round up and kill as many mobs at the same time. All expansions since have only removed complexity, and made the game just moronic. There is nothing to it. I used to go back and check out the expansions. Last expansion I put in maybe 10 hours. I didn't even bother with this one. How much more dumbing down can there be? None. It is as dumbed down as any game can be.
It is just a kids game. There is nothing to it. Blizzard is now a children's game developer. There is no meat. No anything. Just simplicity so six year olds can be part of their market. I'm not sure if this is due to the new prominence of people watching other people play video games. I know my kids woud rather watch people play video games rather than play them themselves for some weird reason. And I know my kids are not capable of playing the games I enjoy, because I like games for adults that require thinking, and character building, heavy character generation and mechanical development. My kids would even rather play a video game than watch me play mine, which is saying a lot considering these weirdo kids today.
And yet , they have 10 mil subs! What you gonna do about it ?
Star Wars Galaxies had 150k subs 10y ago.
Servers had 5k players on them.
After the dreadful NGE patch there were 100 players top reported on any given server.
Yet SOE kept on saying the game had more players then ever.
All cloaked ofc.
So one's quote is not proof.
