Black Desert: Recommended MMO to Play in November 2016

MikehaMikeha Member EpicPosts: 9,196

If you didn't try Black Desert until now, ignore all the written complains that are circulating around the web and give it a chance. Recently Kakao Games decided to permanently lower the price to $10 to bring more players in.

The game is quite good and it's far from dying (the doom preachers are usually players that left due to various reasons, and they want to drag as many people as possible with them). Servers are populated and everything is thriving.

wish my system could handle if, after 2 months of playing it was just struggling too much

never liked a game so much that I played like 5 hrs a day and barely reached level 22

There is an obvious contradiction in what you say. They lowered the game to $10 to bring more players in, but the population is thriving? really?

Already we get one in here.

So things must be bad for a company to try and get more people on the product?

I expect them to one day "permanently" go F2P.

Black Desert has lost a ton of players, just like every MMO does after launch. This is normal. When you reduce your game to $10 it is because the population dropped, not because its thriving and increasing. if they were growing their MAU the price wouldnt have changed. /smh

Nobody said the population has not dropped. That is normal but that still does not mean the game is not doing well.

    Its just more smart buisness.

Well let me just uninstall the game and delete my account based on that illuminating review.

Not looking for other people to follow suite just stating how bad it was with my simple post.  No need to waste others time with an elaborate review of nothing.  Installing the game was more exhilarating.

You are the one who said "thriving" - which means growing, flourishing. It is not, otherwise there would be no $10 sale. Doing well is - what exactly? There is no way to quantify that objectively, you can say that about most games as its purely subjective. "You all lost?" Who? Lost what? ....

Honestly would love to give this a go, but I cant see myself buying what really is a  F2P game , regardless of how much they bring the price down...

4 hours does nothing in BD, hell you don't even unlock half the game for at least 100-200 hours

...In what MMO does it mean that these days...?
Even brand new MMOs probably have difficulties "growing" in numbers after the initial influx of players, of which a huge amount never stick around past the first month.

The best way to measure "growth" would be by their finances, but they don't share those. As long as the game keeps getting frequent content updates and patches I'd say that saying it is "flourishing" would be fair enough.

Also, your reasoning for claiming a game is not doing well because it goes on sale is as flawed as can be. Blizzard has been practically giving WoW away for free for years now, even when it was actually one of the rare MMOs that could say it was still growing in number.

Of course there was a catch there... it was the base game sans the latest expansion. Just as there is a catch here - AKA they are counting on newcomers spending money on the cash shop once they're "in".

Then again, you probably know this better than anyone Kano. Just as everyone on these forums knows that if this was a TRION game, you wouldn't be spouting half of this nonsense. :pleased:

They are planning to merge servers in the near future. A game with a thriving population does not need to merge servers... Especially when the game only has 3 servers to begin with.

I just logged into BDO for the first time since they added the ability to sell real cash items on the in game market and the game does not have nearly as many people playing.

Talking with friends in the high end guilds they barley have any competition when doing siege wars now. They have to actively plan to siege against another guild for that to happen. The game is not dead but it is not thriving either.

If you're going to play this mess, get out your wallet. Or be a peasant forever. P2W Online should be its name. At least now people will only waste $10 and not $29 or more.

My community pulled out of BDO a month or two ago. I was watching a few streams of the server yesterday, coincidentally, the server lacks major competition now. The population has dropped substantially and once the new awakenings finish releasing the interest will dwindle even further. The game didn't last near as long as AA did for us... shame really as it held potential. Server merges were always a " It's gonna happen" thing ... even at launch we knew it was a matter of time. The game probably won't ever die , which is good ... but it's a niche game even in the PvP bracket. I suspect the changes to the CS were in response to the honeymoon being over,  those already heavily invest stayed while those riding the fence took it as the final nail.

The games certainly not thriving... but it's also not dieing.

So it is still $10 more than it should have been from the beginning like every other region - progress, I guess.

I am going to just blindly assume that the texture pop-in in BDO is still the worst in gaming, unless you are playing on a mainframe like a real "leet pro."

I actually liked this game. My issue was that they encourage AFK grinding and balanced the game around leaving your computer on 24/7. Then the forced PvP at the end also discouraged me from progressing.

Still, if non of the above is a deal breaker for you, then this is a good game.

They could offer me $10.00 a month to play it and I'd decline...  But on another note reducing the price screams "players are rapidly decreasing".
