Revelation Online is the latest game from My.com, an import of a popular Chinese game from NetEase – a developer known in the west already for its mobile RPGs. The best way to describe Revelation, from our brief time with it, is that it’s an open world MMORPG that bears resemblance to a birthchild of TERA, Aion, and Blade & Soul. It is an odd game, but one that’s proving fun in its first few hours.

    "Akutaaa-chaaaan"

Same place as you... Gunslinger stuck at lvl 16...

Personally I mostly enjoy either hardcore sandbox PvP games or PvE ones with real tactics on group/raid content.

But I can say that so far I do enjoy RO.. it feels like instead of watching an anime you actually play in one and the chinese culture setting is beautiful.

But yeah, have to try dungeons and PvP first...

Pro trip: Press F10 to hide other players and also you can teleport in places you see in the map with the teleport scrolls you have.
Sandbox MMORPGs that are not very well-known but definitely worth a look:

Ryzom, Haven and Hearth, Xsyon, The Repopulation, UO private shards, Mortal Online, Darkfall 1 remakes (New Dawn or Rise of Agon), RPG MO, Project Gorgon, EQ: Sanctuary (custom  server)

Yeah, the entire NA beta got halted because of that lvl 16 bug. And it continued to remain that way for the entire first day with no fix. Hopefully it's fixed today. The EU server didn't have this problem.

I ended up playing on the European server. Got to 38 last night and had a good time. The 3rd dungeon dusk wood was really fun and challenging for a 4 man party. The combat is tab targeting but very interesting with how the ultimate skills charge up and give you options. As I got further along I was finding less and less English translations. But I did get the feeling it had a good amount of depth to the reps and progression.

Screw leveling games, give me something with "End game" at the beginning of the game.

Best thing about this game for me right now after finally getting to 35 is definitely the unlimited flight. Games like Aion/RoI/Tera put the flight timers or resources which are so annoying.

I don't like the sound of "a birthchild to a Tera, Aion, B&S". I would be more interested if it was a birthchild to BDO. To me personally, BDO is the new standard for Action Combat Open World mmos. If it's not better than that, then its not good enough. But again, that's just me personally. If Revelation is good i will check it out, not doubt.

"The annoying thing that I need to find out if I can turn off is this small line that extends from your character to your target. It looks odd, and out of place, as if I can’t be bothered to pay attention to the rest of the UI to see what I’m aiming at."

You can disable the Target Line in the Game Settings menu. I agree it's a little distracting, but you actually might find it useful as the regular indicators are not particularly clear.

I must be getting jaded. When I heard about the level 16 bug the first thing I thought was the content past 16 wasn't ready.

It is evident that many talented people have spent a lot of time creating this game. However there is nothing new or innovative here, they simply took all the parts from games made in the last 12 years and mashed them into one theme park MMO. Skill and spell effects are fun, flying is cool, but as far as new and creative gameplay , as of now, there is little to be found.

ehm ....i leveled to 50 ish and is all u will do ....for hours to no end , theres is 3 dungeons on the way to 50 (that u must solo) one is cool as hell , the middle one 1 is like infinite tower trial kinda thing (that u can do daily to get some tokens for who knows what ...it was in TW/english )

there are group dungeons but was not able to get 1 group going since TW ppl hate the automated LFG :/

I think the game is decent. You won't find anything new here that you woundnt find in other MMO's. However, that's not a bad thing. From the looKs of it, the game is pretty content and feature complete. (for now)

They just have to fix all the bugs, optimize, have proper localization etc. Personally I think the combat could be better. It doesn't feel as fluid as some other MMO's that I've played but it's still pretty good. We'd also have to wait and see what the cash shop is gonna look like.

How fast and crazy they was deleting any criticism on their forums yesterday... it wouldn't surprise me if they keep that hidden away until launch day like others recently.

I played some more today after BlizzCon stuff. Why do I spend all of the damn time following dorky Akuta, instead of going on my own adventures? Level 21, and I still don't know what's going on in the story. And I still feel like all I'm doing is being led around by Akuta and not exploring a damn thing.

    Does it get more "free"?

    Good write up.
This is a true technical beta test. Not the early access, please pay to play our game now test. It is not feature complete nor is it in a finished state. People should judge accordingly.
It would be different if they had sent me a beta key for a beta test but this is from an email that they sent me earlier this week (caps from email):
"FIRST CLOSED BETA ON NOVEMBER BUY A FOUNDER PACK
PRE DOWNLOAD NOW AND GET READY TO EXPLORE THE WORLD OF NUANOR
PICK YOUR FAVORITE CLASSAND LEVEL UP ALL THE WAY TO LEVEL 49
4 DUNGEONS PREPARE FOR SERIOUS CHALLENGES
10 VS 10 BATTLEGROUNDS FIGHT YOUR FELLOW PLAYERS
HOT SPRINGS ZONERELAX & GET XP IN UNIQUE SCENERY"
If I wanted to see patch notes I would have to search on their site to find them.

They clearly advertise it as pay to play our game so people should judge it accordingly.

    Yes it does.
When you chose to approach the game as an open world and not a linear themepark.
I know a couple of people from Alpha that just headed out on their own and never followed the storyline.
Ok, so just stop doing the quests they feed me? That's counter-intuitive, but I'll try it.

It doesn't help that the localization is so far off. Don't understand a lot, you know? @blueturtle13

The first thing I do in these games is drop the quests.

As soon as I'm asked to run "over there" and kill/collect 2 or 3 of something and then run somewhere else, rinse/repeat, the quests are gone.
