I had totally forgotten I had played this game, as I recall I think it was an enjoyable experience.

I was a great game but that UI - which was fine back then - is... less than fun to deal with. Hopefully they do the CPU speed tweaking in the remake (ex: combat phases, camping speed), otherwise it's fiddling with DOSBox or whatever to make the game remotely playable on today's systems.

Star Trail was pretty brutal as well.  One bad RNG result could (and would) roll up an entire party in an instant.  That made saving at almost every step vital.  Not particularly the style of game I enjoy.  The logistics -- food and loot -- were pretty sparse too, if I remember correctly.

I did love the overland map and travel, though.  The 'paths' were exceptionally well done.  I wonder why that mechanism didn't become a standard feature in other games?

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Hmmm , i will wait and see this get released and some reviews out , I love the TDE system .. But there last attmpt was medicore and still has some of the same problems it did at launch , for 3 years now ... Maybe they should fix Blade of Destiny first , before a sequel , Would sit better with the communtiy that back3ed there last project and feels neglected ..
