No Man's Sky News - Hello Games has broken its months-long silence with a brief note on the No Man's Sky site that promises a large update "soon". Called The Foundation, the patch will be adding the basic base building functionality as well as laying "a foundation" for future updates.

Base building Update? Hmmm, well it's one of the big requests of features.

But I would say the first large update to the game should address multiplayer; minimally things as being able to see other players.

Good to see that they are working on the project. Who knows it may yet become the game i and many others paid for.

    We'll see.

Really fun game. I spent over 90 hours in game and look forward to the update and the ones to come. Yeah I liked it so what! =D
I'd have myself and everyone on my friends list buying it if we could all travel the galaxy together, Star-Trek style...  :(

Well that's what they are working towards IMO, I love the game and plenty of other people do. Me like you would like nothing better that travelling the universe together.

Looking forward to the future updates.

The problem with the base building thing is that it was a requested feature BEFORE the game came out when no one knew what the game was. In the initial flood of broken street date streams people were rightfully freaking out because of the utter lack of depth and the NMS devs were just grasping at anything to get people to quit bashing the game. The main request BEFORE launch and streams was base building. The main request AFTER streams but before the lie of MP was larger ships. Those are the two things the Devs promised after the real state of the game was realized. Now we know that base building is not needed at all. Their is no reason to stick around on a planet long enough to grind even more shit just to build a base on a planet we will be leaving soon. The whole object of the game is to explore the galaxy, not sit on one planet.

TL;DR They never should have promised base building at all. It is not needed and a waste of time and resources.

I dont think at this point there is any saving this one.  You have less than 1000 people playing it on steam when its peak was over 200,000.  I only hope they use some of the massive amount of money they made on this one to continue to improve it over the next few years.

Hello Games doing the "media blackout" since launch has not helped their reputation any either.  People feel like they took the money and ran.

If they iron out the bugs, and include multiplayer, even if its just your friends by invitation rather than open multiplayer, then that would be enough for me to buy the game :o

Yeah, though it can help to face one of the biggest critics the game faces, lack of content and replayability (due the repetition factor). Having a push on sandbox with building and making cute things can deal with that to some extent for a while; the problem lies with the reputation hurt as it is if it's even viable to push on updates to get people back playing it.

Base building wont save anything. Requested or not, it's a pointless feature in a game where you're not meant to stay on the same planet for a long time. Now large freighter ships or some other sort of large mothership type thing would make more sense in a game where you're meant to move from system to system. I would give it another shot if I could have a large ship where I can collect and park multiple smaller ships. Also top priorities should be adding true multiplayer and fixing the fact that every planet is pretty much just the same thing over and over just repainted.

well although i had high hopes for the game, after ROME II, i never preordered anything or played from day 1. This led me to never play that game and its sad for the state it is now :(

i understand that base building is just to far away from their initial focus, but its just the part of something else. So i still have some hopes that they might finally deliver multiplay and give a deeper or more obvious purpose into the game. There is still a chance to become a bright and optimistic edition of New Eden..

till then i will play some remastered Homeworld which just bought on steam sales and after a year of debugging this sweet piece :)

Yeah but what is 'base building' in the eyes of Hello games?

Me? I'm expecting a small shed just as a small shred of what was promised is actually in the game.

If that 11% is real thats only 462 players who like it out of the 4.2k

Soon they will start to charge you for updates.

I hope this helps the game. I decided not to buy it and am glad I did not. I thought the game was suppose to be one that getting to the center of the lollipop was not likely to happen. Maybe base building will give a reason to find a planet that one likes to settle at.

True indeed. What for building base when what we do is going into other planet frequently.

It's amazing to consider how hyped this game was pre-launch to now being the lowest rated game on Steam

It also went from 200,000 players to less than 1,000 on steam in what has to be the biggest nosedive I have seen.

Why should anyone care at this point? I doubt many will return to play just because of some content updates. The game is still nothing compared to so many other survival/gathering games out there, which are also 1/3 the price.
