If you had to upgrade your PC to play ONE upcoming game?

DreadToothDreadTooth Member UncommonPosts: 150

QUESTION: If you had to upgrade your PC to play any ONE upcoming yet-to-be-released MMO, which game would it be?

Ok, so... hypothetical question meant to figure out which upcoming games you are looking forward to!

Ignore the current required specs for upcoming games.

Consider this as a more tangible form of "which new game would you shell out a ton of $$$ for".

I've been wondering which new games might be most popular, which ones people think will be the most fun. I like to play with other people when I play online, and other people's hype gets me hyped! So come on, put it in a real test, which upcoming game really IS for you?!

Thanks

Currently Playing:

Fallout 4 (Xbox One)

Puzzle Pirates (PC)
Dreadtooth on Emerald Ocean

Well kind of off-topic my two Hd7970 are able to handle most games including upcoming games but one thing they don't support is freesync on my new 34 ultra wide monitor.  Anyone know a good affordable graphics card that supports freesync?

Ah, I kinda have that line in swtor. What's the price point of "affordable"?

The Repopulation and Star Citizen. I don't expect mmos to require like top end hardware like regular games do. A game like star citizen I can see it though requiring high end hardware. If I had to upgrade my pc I'd be willing to do it for both those games if necessary. I'm willing to put in the money for it because those games just have that potential to be exactly what I'm looking for.
The acronym MMORPG use to mean Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.

But the acronym MMMORPG now currently means Microscopic Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. Kappa.

The last time I upgraded my computer for a single game was Age of Conan in 2008.  I went all out and built a new machine from the ground up.  Now, I'm not an AoC hater, so it was good money spent for me.  I loved the game when they still spent resources developing it.

Future games though?  Ehhhh, maybe Camelot Unchained.  Maybe.  Probably won't have to though at the glacial pace that hardware is advancing currently.

Star Citizen. My current PC was purchased with SC in mind.

nothing that good to warrant such an upgrade cost to play. I would just have to bypass the game.

I'd consider buying a VR headset if there was a game that looked interesting.

yeah i did it for FFXI , eq2 (i played on 512 ram at the time loading screens in Eq2 took 5 min at least was infuriating  ) , and later on for FFXIV 1.0 that failed badly ....anyway after playing Bless today im not going to upgrade anytime soon , next year probably but atm im able to play anything at nearly max

none of the future games im interested are going to be "unplayable" to me , but upgrading the pc or buying a new one is like day and night , graphics on max or near is important to enjoy the games....a game with poor textures no shadows and 20fps isnt enjoyable

I have never upgraded or built a new PC in order to play one game.  I always wait until there are many games I want to play that will not adequately run on my current system.  It makes no sense to me to be constantly changing my hardware in order to make the latest, newest, still poorly optimized game run well.

Sure hope none of you folks waiting for SC are buying parts now.  Could be two more years until there is enough to be called an MVP.

On the other hand, my current PC is almost 6 years old and the only things I have added in those 6 years are an SSD and a GTX 970.  I purchased an i7 975 extreme from a guy who bought it new for $1,100 and then got tired of waiting as he realized he did not have enough money to build his dream machine.  He could not find a buyer and eventually sold me the unopened CPU for $500 back in 2010.  It still ranks my machine in the 75th percentile in benchmark software.

The hardware sales this holiday season and playing Black Desert at max settings have prompted me to buy a new rig and move my current one down to my son.  Will be adding benchmark/specs in my signature as soon as I have it built

If game developers are sufficiently inept at optimizing their code as to be unable to make a game run well on the decent enough hardware that I already have, then what are the odds that there won't be any other severe problems with the game?  A lack of competent programmers at a studio can cause all sorts of things to go wrong.

I would have to say the new Mass Effect coming out in March.  I'm pretty sure my current setup will run it since I could run DA:I on medium with pretty decent FPS.  But, I would love to play it maxxed out.  I suppose if my computer ends up having issues running it, it might be the thing that finally motivates me to get a PS4: Pro.

    This is a trick question.

If I by chance got a ton of money for a massive upgrade. It be for star citizen at max graphics, 4k resolution with 60 FPS at all times

Then I know I can play EVERY game to come out in the next 5 years without any issue.

None. I don't do pre-emptive upgrades. I wait until I'm in a situation where upgrade benefits me right now.

I would contemplate an upgrade if my gpu can't handle Cyberpunk 2077 on high setting.
