There Is Not Another Game Like Conan Exiles

This game could be absolutely amazing.  The game has co-op rpg elements, is open world, the graphics use an integrated version of the Unreal 4 engine, there is 3rd person support for people like me that get motion sickness, and the character creator looks to me like the devs want it robust.  Again, what tops this game?  ARC is the closet thing out there.

Dear Fun-Com, Please don't screw this one up.  This could be something unique and truly amazing.

I wonder about it because it is being touted as a survival game but if it has things like levels and dungeons I don't know what to expect. The fact that is is being made by an MMORPG studio in their favorite IP in which they still maintain an MMORPG makes me wonder.

Is it shooter death, perma-death, 3 strikes and you're out?
Do you retain knowledge between characters?

From what I've seen, it will be very similar to ARK.

Its important to remember this is a survival game. The main focus is on collecting resources and building your base. ARK also has levels and dungeons - what that means is you unlock recipes as you craft. Dungeons in ARK are simply caves you can explore, with some monster spawns.

I expect it to be similar here. Dungeons are most likely open world locations you visit, that are in caves. It does not necessarily imply any sort of dungeon system we are used to in MMOs. Same with levels, if you lock crafting recipes behind an experience wall, you have level driven progression.

Not saying the game is bad at all. I'm looking forward to it. It's best to expect a traditional survival game though, not any groundbreaking revolution.

I expect that Exiles will play very similarly to ARK.

The major difference between the two will be that Exiles will feature humanoid NPC's and focus on melee combat using primarily "medieval" weapons.

Like in ARK, you will have to constantly eat and drink, gather resources and build a base. On PVP servers you will then try to kill all other players and destroy their bases.

In ARK, you tame dino's to help you in resource gathering and combat. In Exiles you will enslave humanoid NPC's to do the same.

I don't get OP, It's a classic survival game set in the Conan universe, or has this game features that no other survival game has?

I sadly joined the game a tad too late, just as people were starting to leave but in honesty,i found it to be a decent game.
The problem i had was the player base was leaving,so very few remained. As well i thought the itemization was real weak and gear was also sort of bland/boring.
The open world concept is a bit misleading but it does get better after Tortilage.

However after i left i came back to check it out and i found the graphics looked like they had toned them down big time to support f2p.I remembered them looking quite good but now not so good, definitely not of UE3 capability but then again even a lesser engine could produce better graphics.

I like the guild structure of gathering items for your guild but got really bored of the constant need in games to go into some EQ like linear narrow dungeon where you have to fight every single mob you see.I liked you could climb,at the time that was really unique and i liked the idea behind the first town of Tortilage. However the part i did not like the most was the entire game seemed designed as a single player game very similar to SWG with lights turning off/on as you unlock game areas in a linear fashion.

Overall i would say at least to me at this point in time, just not good enough because i would play EQ2/FFXI/FFXIV over AOC and with little thought about it.That is the thing about mmorpg's,they are and should be time consuming, only enough room to play one at a time so a game needs to be really good and not just sort of ok.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Are you speaking of Age of Conan? The OP is writing about Conan Exiles -- the upcoming survival take on the Conan universe. :)

    Come on, it is FunCom.

I really like them but the nickname "FailCom" is well earned for undelivered promises. I will wait no less then 6 months AFTER release to even start reading about this game. That's how much I do not trust them.

I would love to play a survival game if it did not have PvP. I enjoy fighting the elements and beasts that roam and collect and gather and construct but if some yahoo comes and steals from me and kills me I will rage quit so I cannot play.

I get motion sickness also so hadn't much looked at this one.  How good is the third person?  Can you play in third person at all times?

Survival games are the new black.
If they get the right recept from just  "one" survival game, it could be groundbreaking :expressionless:

Love conan, but another survival game?  I've yet to play one that isn't boring after about 10 mins.

Every time Funcom launches a new game the "its the greatest game ever" threads start...Then you play it and realizes its just another bad Funcom game.....AO was their only decent game.....AoC and TSW were both garbage

Shame they completely removed the groundbreaking AoC combat, that would have really set it apart from ARK

I disagree.  That combat system was the worst I ever played in an MMO.  I don't blame them- they were trying something different and it was the precursor to action combat.  The implementation felt very forced, though.

This makes me wonder if they are purposely being vague about the game because they are still hammering out details. I kind of feel like they are still deciding on things in game when you watch the streams. Also they may be trying to avoid comparisons to other games as people are saying they copied the design of this ARK game.

They do call it a survival game, so I agree that it will be pretty much a quick and dirty death game. I just got a bit confused by the source (funcom) and the elements that were MMORPG-like such as levels, dungeons,  and stats.

Looking forward to FUNCOM's next Creation, IMO they are the best MMO creators on the market, even thou this game will not be an MMO I Still have great memories from Funcom's Anarchy Online, Age of Conan and The Secret World all of them has been a REAL blast to play . .. I'm convinced FunCom will do it again, with or without flaws I'm on board :)

Some people get motion sickness in 1st person view.  Even using the FoV and MB controls don't help.  I wish I could play 1st person games.  There are games I want to play that does not support 3rd person.  However, after trying every trick in the book, I know that I can only play in 3rd person and resigned to that fact.

Here is a quote on the Steam forums from a Developer -

You can choose freely between first and third person view and both perspectives work for all aspects of the game: combat, gathering, building, etc. Personally I prefer it to be first person, because most survival games are these days, but if third person is your thing then you can use it for as long as you wish. :)

Lets revisit this thread 3 months after launch.
I agree with that.  It is very possible that this game falls flat.  If it does, I will move on.  This game does appeal to me and my man.  If it turns out to be garbage, so be it.  However, it sounds and looks fun & interesting..to me anyways.  Being able to capture NPCs, tie a rope around them, drag them back to my base, and make them my B!Atch.....sign me up!

My condolences I too am a fellow sufferer who cannot play in First person view. I recently got too big for my shoes after playing Fallout 3 a lot and thought I might be able to handle Deus Ex Human Revolution and was taught a bitter lesson in less than 10 minutes with a massive headache for the rest of the day.

Don't you wish you could play Bioshock, Mankind Divided and Dishonour and so on.
