I'm not really concerned whether you like the game or not. I'm more concerned about your reasons. All of which sound like first world problems. Right off the bat you complained about the combat and went on to explain why. First off, it's an action oriented combat system, which by the sound of it, isn't something you are used to. As for the rest of your issues, well... you know what, it's probably best I just agree with you because it's obvious it's not the game for you.
Any problem with a video game is a first world problem. We're not talking about poverty or starvation here. As for combat, I was well aware that it was action combat, I've played action combat and non tab-target games before. But with BDO, the combat just wasn't jiving with me. And it seemed mostly to be because of odd hitbox issues and range issues as I said. I'd do a shield slam right in front of a mob and nothing would happen at times. Then I'd do some sort of power-slam ground attack and it would hit mobs that were quite some distance away.
More than half of your issues could have been resolved just by going in the options. By default you have aim assist which imo sucks. I really didn't want to reply as it's clearly meant to bait people that enjoy the game to insult you but since many posted here I go:
Don't come like you were interested in the game. Admit it and let it go. You don't download a 40 GB game then leave right away without even checking the options to solve the majority of your issues...
Yeah man, I frequently download and play things that I have no interest in /sarcasm off
Having played the shit out of Archeage for a solid year and a half, I actually had high hopes for this one, since they share some similarities. I had friends in Archeage that had left the game because they made the switch to BDO and were loving it. But I've never been so turned off by a game in such a short period of time as this one, hence the title "Fastest I've ever uninstalled an MMO".
For instance, you brought up ArcheAge, which I and probably most of the BDO community have played. A game that had some serious flaws and obvious P2W elements. So when you sit here complaining about these definite "first world problems" and now praise ArcheAge it sounds a lot like an obvious troll statement.
I know that AA has some serious flaws and P2W elements. In fact I've said so in this very thread. It was one of the reasons I left over 6 months ago and haven't gone back.
I usually stick with melee classes. I would have preferred Valkyrie over Warrior mechanics wise, since the class seems more Paladin-like, but I won't play female characters.
Well, I was going to say this to Bloodaxes but I'll say it to both: have a paradigm shift and think of the character as "someone else".
Your sister, girlfriend, Mother, A good female friend.
When I played The Secret World I played a female character and made her to look close to my current girlfriend at the time.
When I told her she said that if it was her she would use a sword so that is how I had the character fight.
removing the association of "you" and thinking of the character as someone know or a historical or mythological figure really can help.
My issue with playing female characters is how other players react to them. I made a female character one time in WoW. Between the creepy whispers I was getting and some guy giving me a leg-slot armor piece that looked like booty shorts and asking me to "try them on for him" I just couldn't do it anymore.
huh ... I've heard these stories but never once had that happen. Closest thing I had experienced was in Lineage 2 where I guy said he didn't "pk chicks" as i was on a female healer".

If the combat is bothering you, switch up your class or try all of the classes. They play very and feel very different, it really does change your game, at least it does for me.
It did for me as well. I really wanted to play ranger but felt it was a chore. Witch was unplayable for me. Warrior and Valkyrie were much better. I like Wizard but never gave it a sturdy try.
Are you trolling right now?

They are literally the exact same class until 56 when they have 2 skills that are different.
Interesting, i've never heard the archer class described as a Chore, when i played it and observed and asked many players, the consensus was that it was auto win most of the time, barely ever did I have to put real effort into killing most mobs or even scroll bosses.
There are "easy" classes and harder ones in BDO. Simply meaning that some take more time and skill to actually be good at. Easy ones for example are Ranger, Warrior, Berserker. BDO has some of the best combat in any game, that comes from someone who has played MMO's for 17 years but finding the right class is important. I initially tried Tamer, Ranger and then settled at Valkyrie and love it.

Nobody assumes you're actually a girl anymore if you play a girl toon, especially in BDO where classes are gender locked.

Stuff like that don't happen any more since the majority of players play females in most games. Just look around you when you play and count the number of female avatars you see.

Yeah, I don't really like it. At least at lower levels. But more than willing to do some research, maybe I'm missing something that should be obvious.

Pro tip: Make a fake social media account with fake photos of female (make sure the photos are cute enough), tell him to visit your socmed, and watch his gold pouring all over your face. If he asks you to call you over the phone, you go and ask your female friend to answer your phone so he (the victim) would believe that you're legit female. :winky:
In the past, I even have a male friend who depends on his "virtual boyfriend" for his source of in-game-gold. You'll be surprised at how many clueless and hopeless people on the internet.
When you don't want the truth, you will make up your own truth.

Won't that plan fall apart at the female friend requirement. Better use a female relative.

Not in my case. Sometimes, my friend used his girlfriend to pick up the phone or just gave his girlfriend's number with telling her that a weirdo will called her number and how her should react.
But your way is effective too.

There are three games i removed in about the same time, within the first 15 minutes...GW2,TESO and some Asian game where you had some underage lil girlfriend. Then what strikes me is GW1 did that same idea, very weird,so perhaps the overall thinking behind the Arena team does not sit well with me.
This does not mean i considered them the worst games i have ever played, not by a longshot,it just means they were so transparent obvious that i would not want to go any further playing those games.I did go back and try TESO once more and GW2 three x more and left almost just as fast each time.
Anyone knows me ,i can't stand Wow ,yet i have logged many hours in Wow always thinking, just maybe somewhere lurking around the corner something will intrigue me or catch my eye but of course it never does.So for me to play longer inside of Wow really says what i think of those other games. It is all about the design and yes the graphics can turn me off but not always.I can spot a terrible design within the first 20 minutes.

It is a chore, it is a terribly designed class. The whole viability of the class revolves around macro's or tentacle fingers spamming things like shotgun.
Just about everyone I've talked to who has tried ranger and doesn't main it, can't stand it. It isn't a fun class, it is a class for elitists who want to get to the top by exploiting broken mechanics. The whole thing revolves around anicancel spam, there is no fluidity to its play.
I liked the class until a friend told me how to do the rotation 'right'. Then the fun went down the drain for the exact reasons you mentioned above. Maybe I'll just say fuck it, and take the skills I want to take, rather than the ones I'm "supposed" to get.
I did have fun with the class before that point, and I won't ever go PvPing with the ranger anyway.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
3 years ago this ended up on my YouTube recommended list and I knew then I would play Black Desert. I really didn't feel I had the GPU to play it when it first came out a year ago. It turns out I do, I just play on low settings and deal with 20 fps. If I upgraded to a GT 730 LP I could get that to 60 fps I am sure. That's the limit my power supply will handle.
12 days ago, I did start playing and I chose Sorc because of that video. I didn't choose her for her "OP'ness" I chose her because of a sassy look she gave in that video. I don't know the OP rotations. I know what work for me. She has several power up skills that give short crit rating buffs and they can combine to turn finisher moves in to massive frontal cone and AoE attacks. She never runs out of MP (shift and LM not to mention she looks like a beast) and needs to haul ass all the time because she does take a lot of damage but she can be on all 4 sides of a mob group in 2 seconds.
I don't fit in the cool kids club. 12 days later I'm level 49 with 60% on the level. Some say 2 hrs to 50? I guess, I dunno. Took me 12 days. It's spamming a co-op quest requirement to level to 50 and I know I have a bunch of grey ones to do before I get to that because I ignored the spirit guy. I'm in no rush. 50 is where people can force PvP if they feel spiteful and I'm not ready to deal with that. All I know is I own every building in Glish, can craft anything I need and more. 80 AP/ 60 DP is what you get with no RnG enhancements and it lets me face off anything 2 levels above me.
tl:dr It's a lot of game. You could play it for 5 years and I doubt you would 'do all the stuff'. It's everything others say they want in an MMO until someone delivers. Then it's grindy, it's pay to win, it's whatever you need to tell yourself to get away from it and back to the forum to bitch about how games are too easy these days.
Me? I'm loving it. Me and Ginger Sorc girl are having a blast. And yes, I bought an outfit and some panties. I also plan to keep the account Value pack active. I doubt I will ever 'win' BDO. I don't think it can be done.
Add On: I'm not slagging the OP. He has a right to his view. I just don't agree.
- Combat was terrible. Could stand in front a mob and swing at it and nothing would happen. Meanwhile another attack strangely hits everything within a 5 mile radius.
The combat in this game is reputed by many to be the most active, engaging and entertaining combat in any MMO. Most likely you were experiencing lag, the servers have been a bit laggy lately.
- After killing a mob, loot drops in the form of wrapped presents...Eh?
Christmas event, not sure why this is a con.
- Blinking, shining, glowing, everything all over the screen. Glowing trails leading to quests and big shining vertical beams of light at quest locations. Circles popping up when I approach an npc. Felt like I was in a casino.
Asian MMO, so ya.
- Mob AI was seemingly random. I'd stand right next to supposedly hostile mobs and they'd just mind their business like I wasn't there. Then one would randomly aggro while the others just chilled out.
Mobs in this game are meant to be mercilessly slaughtered, they have added a new elite in Valencia that has very very good AI and is really hard to fight but for the most part the mobs are meant to be cash pinnatas.
- Screen pop-in. I heard the horror stories, but I still wasn't prepared. Absolutely terrible. Having the game installed on an ssd apparently did nothing to minimize it.
This is just part of the in house engine, ya its annoying but you get used to it and overlook it.
Pros:
- Uninstall worked flawlessly.
- The trial was free.
My remarks are in bold/italics. You really can not review a game with any credibility by playing if for less than an hour which is what I assume you did, maybe 2 hours.
This is one of the best MMO's I have ever played, period. I have played nearly every AAA MMO there is.
None of your complaints hilariously enough are actually ABOUT the game itself, they are just nitpicky ADHD observations about the cosmetics of the game. I really wanted to see a coherent argument in here but it was mostly just asinine complaints that do not affect the average player who plays this game.

So cosmetics aren't part of the game? O.o Also, mob AI and hitbox/lag issues aren't cosmetic. I wasn't trying to do a full review, just mentioning my short-lived experience with the game. Having played literally dozens of mmo's since 1999, I've never given up on a game so fast, hence the title. I'm glad that you enjoy it, but it just wasn't something I desired to spend any more time on.
I am totally enjoying this thread in comparison to the new poll for best new mmo of 2016 where BDO is currently smashing everything else on the list. It is always the disgruntled customer who gets all vocal "the sky is falling", "most horrible thing I have ever played/eaten/seen" yet apparently the silent majority see things a bit different and are not having the worst time ever playing Black Desert.

Cosmetics are a part of the game but they do not or should not affect your enjoyment of said game. You say you've played mmo's since 1999, so have I. I went back a recently played Everquest for a few months and the archaic graphics did not hinder my enjoyment of the game at all. I have also played many Indie games with 1985 style graphics to the same end.
Mob AI/hitbox issues like I stated previously are a technical issue related to server lag. Yes again like cosmetics it is a "part" of the game but you are missing my point.
The "soul" of the game is what most people consider as the most important part. Is it fun, does it suck you in and keep you. Does it keep you coming back again and again everyday to keep playing. For me and many others this is something that BDO does.
I normally don't respond to posts on these forums because of all the vitriol that is spouted on here, I find it is worse than reddit most of the time, but this post just annoyed me because you pass judgement on a game without actually ever "playing" it at all.
I wish you could have overlooked a few of BDO's issues to actually PLAY the game itself and not criticize a few technical and cosmetic problems. Is the game perfect? No of course not. Is it insanely engaging and fun once you start to explore its many depths? Absolutely.
The combat in this game is reputed by many to be the most active, engaging and entertaining combat in any MMO. Most likely you were experiencing lag, the servers have been a bit laggy lately.

0/10 on your ability to review games.
Professional game reviewers have to give a game a chance, real players don't. And I did the exact same thing as the OP. I saw the combat was a meaningless button mash, the UI was annoying and wrecked a good looking game. The fact you can turn that off is irrelevant, that is how they chose to present their game. Your 2 replies above don't make sense together. How can a merciless slaughter also be engaging? It seems like the game only appeals to the people who like hyper button mashing combat, which I don't think is the majority. It's not the players job to give any game a chance. Just like any good book or movie it's the creator's job to hook you and pull you along till the end. A lot of MMORPG players seem to be fine with games that are more like work then entertainment, and that's great if you are OK with that, but you should realize not everyone feels that way. All the points the OP mentioned are valid and are either the developers fault or a simple matter of wrong target audience. It's a fair warning for others who feel the same way.
ive just picked a random video FROM 2 YEARS AGO FROM BDO.
Op is just a troll.
"Seemingly" invincible horses and minimal strategy required for enemy domination. Doesn't seem very appealing. I would never even have installed based on just that video.
I've got a feevah, and the only prescription... is more cowbell.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

0/10 on your ability to review games.
Absolutely.
Op is just a troll.
I've got a feevah, and the only prescription... is more cowbell.
