Thanks for the link, in my opinion, this all looks shady as hell. Like wtf is going on over there.
it does seem a little sketchy....as an old SWG player i had always hoped this game would eventually fill that mmo space but who knows what will happen with it
The whole point of Fragmented was that all development that went into it would be able to translate directly into Repopulation. Now it seems that was all for nothing.
Quite difficult to figure it all out but sounds like a deal was struck between the two parties. If Fabrik was so much in trouble, how could they have a team a year later,do an update and operate a game that was abandoned? Si i assume both parties hurting for money so they will try and operate the game with a very shotty server structure to try and get some money to get Fragmented to Steam or where ever it launches. It does nothing to curb my displeasure for crowd funding and early access games,i would steer far clear of these games.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I agree with the comments on that page. Shady as all hell.
The entire fiasco of The Repopulation has been a total scam.
early access. okay fine, pretty ordinary
VERY SOON after release "after years of working on this, within weeks we came to the conclusion of needing a new engine"...wtf? SCAM. They knew full well after 1+ year of working what the engine could and could not do. And within weeks of release, maybe 2-3 months at most...they realized they couldn't use the engine? Con artists to the max.
Release Fragmented to support The Repopulation. Support on it quickly drops, not like The Repopulation at all...quick cash in with survival craze. Funny it came out when survival games were all super hyped up...AND must have been in development for longer than before The Repopulation released. Since Fragmented didn't come out very long after Repopulation shut down. Con artists to the max
Now sold to another company, a no name company I never heard of.
This game is a bigger scam than Dark and Light was years ago
Don't buy this game, at all. Its run by complete con artists that full well they were releasing an early alpha that they couldn't support on the engine, making fragmented as an escape or more cash in, when Fragmented released soon after. They also knew the engine far longer than the games release, and suddenly "didn't know it couldn't work properly with what we wanted"? and they had many months/years of work on the engine? NOPE! Doesn't work like that.
Big fat con artists looking for a quick buck.

So Repop went from suspended status until who knows when, while they worked on Fragmented, to suddenly being released in the next 2 months?...
Backers were playing RP. But due to problems with IF they had to shut down the game and let go of HeroEngine.
This launch doesn't mean the game is completed now. It only means the old servers are going live again.

I can understand why IdeaFabrik bought Repop: it was their best hope for an MMORPG running on their engine (HeroEngine).
When the Repop devs decided to switch to UE, IdeaFabrik must have hit a major panic situation. With no major MMO running on their engine, they would struggle to attract new dev projects. They were already in financial dire straits at the end of 2015 due to one of their backers pulling out.
And no, SWTOR does NOT run on Hero Engine. EA/Bioware bought the incomplete Hero Engine source code in 2006 (the engine was not a commercial product yet). Since then they've extensively modified it into something that would be all but unrecognizable as Hero Engine after 10+ years of modification.
I have been a staunch supporter of Repopulation, but after this move I have no hope for the game whatsoever.
Hm, sounds they have been strong armed out of The Repopulation because of contract renegotiations. Their contract renegotiations were kind of fishy, the way it happened when Idea Fabrik had financial problems.
No way I am going to support The Repopulation if its in the hands of Idea Fabrik. This will be just a crappy re release of the MMO that went offline back then.
I expect that both games will have to deal with a lot of negativity because of this soap drama. And I doubt that many original The Repopulation buyers will support Idea Fabrik.
The development for that game never cancelled in the first place it just got halted so I don't know about "The Repopulation Returned". More like the development process seems to be speeding up after a company who I don't know claimed it. I don't like the idea of A&B selling their game off to someone else this just makes me more cautious and less enthusiastic about the game now. I'm not going to really judge yet but say if the next SWG doesn't come for me in the next decade yet then I'll stick with survival games with great crafting systems including minecraft etc. for my SWG fix. Its a shame really cause I like the mmo genre.
From what I've read now I understand who IF is, I don't trust them one bit because they had financial problems how do they expect to keep the game running for years if they cant even support the servers during the Alpha stages of the game.
The acronym MMORPG use to mean Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game.
But the acronym MMMORPG now currently means Microscopic Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game. Kappa.
The development of the repop(especially josh if I remember his name) was hands down some of the most inspired ideas I have ever seen. Now Im not talking about coding and technical though it seemed adequate, its not my main point. Some of the crafting sub-systems were unbelievably in depth. The game was headed to becoming a masterpiece of not only depth but of real- life sy-fy. From chemistry to robotics they added real ideas to back up the currently only theorized ones.
Truly unbelievable!
I will add here though, that with the fall of such an epitome of challenge and science wrapped in a fun and accessible package, it underlines the base idea there is something about these ideas that someone finds unacceptable and every project of this nature, no mater how it is back(in this case crowd funded) is doomed to fail and I for one am shamed I didnt give more regardless of the outcome.
I will also say I at this time do not plan to back this new project without expressed consent from the original developers in a form that is judgable from a peer point of view. These peoples ideas and sweat seemingly have been absconded and it is not even remotely acceptable at this point in time.
Soo Here Hereee! Josh! Your game was a GEM a thousand times brighter then a diamond!
