If I’m honest, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy Shards Online. The retro-style MMO by Citadel Studios – a tribute to classics like Ultima Online – just didn’t grab me. The Diablo-esque graphical perspective, slow skill grinds and nod to player-killing just didn’t sound appealing in an era of sumptuous 3D and safe theme-park rides.

You can pivot it around, like in Starcraft II, but you can't change the elevation angle. But that pivoting itself is ungraceful, not really tracking with mouse movements.
Currently playing: WildStar, Guild Wars 2, EVE Online, Vain Glory.

the $20 tier still didnt get u alpha access anyways
Apart from the pvp, the concepts are awesome; such as player run shards and content and the choice of isometric view which should allow to focus resources on game mechanics rather than a 100 man 3D artist team.

Even though it sounds like it has a long way to go (as would be expected), Shards has moved from off the map to on the radar from me. It'll be fun to see where they go with this.
There are several player constructed shards with no PVP, but I don't think there are any separate official ones as yet. Remember, the game is still in Alpha and has a long way to go.
