As a bitter old bastard, I have to ask. Is the reason you really are returning to this game is because it has been massively improved, or because there is absolutely nothing released since that can take its place?
Both. And it has not massively improved, but it has improved enough. What changed I guess is our expectations and the way we approach the game.
I did the same as the Vlogger. I left because of similar reasons, at the beginning I approached the game as your usual MMORPG, trying to get to the end game as fast as I could so eventually I was burned out. I returned one month ago because there was nothing else to play as I was on a break from ESO. But when I got back I suddenly realized what I was missing about BDO and why it is so different from many other MMOs. So I decided to relax and enjoy the game rather than rushing, and now the game is much more enjoyable.
Basically I could have said the same exact things as Peon, because I felt the same way. The good things about BDO outweigh the bad things in my opinion (and truthfully BDO has big issues). BDO is very atypical game, I can see why some people just don't get what the fuss is about, it is certainly not for everyone.
This guy is spot on. When it says "Maybe I should play this game casually and enjoy all of its non competitive aspects", he basically caught the essence of BDO. Too many people play this game like every other MMO (rush to end game) and miss what BDO is about. This is a MMO that has depth, you can't rush it. This game is about the journey not the end game, something rare to find in current MMOs.
I am sorry but what journey ? are u implying that bdo has a story ? there is no story .. it's just one major grindfest ran by a manipulative , lying , dishonest company. I am glad if u are honestly enjoying the game and please , continue to do so! but at the amount of money they made by using cheap misinformation tactics that f2p company's usually resort to , they could of easely got morgan freeman to get to say that bdo has become amazing! Nono sir , not again.

Journey doesn't equal Story, I don't know where did you get that notion. I think you've been very narrow minded if you think that's what make a great Journey. There are plenty of things to do in BDO, it doesn't need a Main Storyline to keep you entertained. This is not a Linear game, it is a Sandbox, atypical but still a Sandbox.
I personally don't want big Storylines in my MMORPGs. That's for Single Player RPGs, MMOs don't require that.
As a bitter old bastard, I have to ask. Is the reason you really are returning to this game is because it has been massively improved, or because there is absolutely nothing released since that can take its place?
I would say that given his reasons, he overreacted like many and now that there is nothing "new" to play has realized that the game, when played for what it is over what it isn't, is actually fun.
It's the same for me. Is BDO among the greats? I wouldn't say so. But for me there's nothing better around at the moment, and I want to play an MMO so BDO provides that. When Pantheon comes and if I like it, then I'll probably move on, but who knows until we get there.
Lots of people around after a server merge, check. Some things you must pick up in the store, check, so it's not p2w, it's pay to be normal? I see why they want to get people to return.

I would say that is part of the "overreaction".
Players get in the game, expect it to have x, y and z, expect it to allow you to A, B, and C, they don't find what they want, quit and then slowly come back with no expectations and realize that they are enjoying themselves.
It's not a different game. It's still a grinder game, one still has to eventually get decent gear (if not top) in order to progress and not feel like you are hitting a brick wall.

I would say that given his reasons, he overreacted like many and now that there is nothing "new" to play has realized that the game, when played for what it is over what it isn't, is actually fun.
He dropped a mindset that too many MMO players have. That it's all about the vaunted "end game", and that he had to be among the top 1% of the super hardcore. On top of that insight, he realized the whole "P2W" update was blown way out of proportion (including by himself and other streamers), and some nuisances that he disliked the first time around are gone now.
Like the energy cost on just about everything, so he can actually continue doing the things he enjoys, rather than having to drop it and go do something else because he ran out of energy.

somone must have paid that guy to advertize this garbo while 2x event is running. This is not even a MMO, its a solo grinder with pretty graphics.
*Someone likes a game I dont like, he must have been paid to play it*
Jeez, CCP owes me a bunch of money for all my time in their game.
Seems like BDO is a title that some find they enjoy on second look, especially if the first-time around they let their preconceived notions color the view.
I discounted it for my dislike of action combat, perhaps if I had pressed through that as I did for Tera I might find a game I enjoy.

BDO has a lot going for it and I did enjoy certain parts of it a lot when I played. When I next need a break from ESO this is what I'll go back to... it's still on my HD after all

people keep saying scince pvp is pointless you don't really get ganked because there's no point to it, then I watch his video and he's trying to show off his character walking down a road and a player walks up to him and ganks him and rides away.
That is the only thing keeping me from playing this game currently.

Seriously it never once happened to me but I have not levelled beyond 50 when you turn PvP enabled but even then it is extremely rare. Are you telling me that even if it happens so rarely you will just pass this game up? He probably goes around ganking others himself so it might have been payback. I can tell you people don't complain about being ganked in this game unless they are in those popular spots. Just avoid those it is truly worth picking this game up.
Another thing don't park your mount wherever you want and be careful and leave it at a stable. People do kill your mounts once you become PvP enabled. It is very easy to avoid PvP in this game. I don't PvP and I played this game so take it from me the chances of you getting ganked are slim.

Trust me, 99% of the time you will not be bothered by anyone. You can do Quests and Tradeskill in peace most of the time.
You might get in trouble only if you try to grind mobs in a popular PvE spot that is already taken. But those spots equal 0.1% of the entire BDO Map.
Has the English localization improved since launch? There were a lot of things a enjoyed about BDO, but nonsensical gibberish that half the NPCs spewed really got on my nerves.

You will rarely be bothered unless you go to one of the "popular" high level leveling spots.
I think since the start of the game I've been pk'ed 5 times.
If I realized I couldn't take them (they were much higher level/better geared or a group, I would change channels. Problem solved.

So the question is, is ArcheAge P2W? I've never played Black Desert, but Black Desert and ArcheAge both seem similar to me, ships, housing, RNG on gear. The RNG on gear is one of the main reasons that I left ArcheAge, and he mentioned that this game has it too.

You don't need a reason for someone to gank you lol. If people are avoiding this game because of the PvP, it's with good reason.

I don't like PvP at all in fact I asked about the PvP in this game a lot before I even bought it and I have never encountered PvP except when I go see the node wars. I am not yet level 50 though so no one can kill me.
One other thing I forgot to mention is that very few games are coming out these days without PvP so unless you never want to touch a game with PvP you will have a very short roster of games to choose from. So I feel you should try to play some games where PvP is not that much of an issue or you can avoid it and still have loads of fun which you can in BDO.

So far that is what I see lacking.
